There's been a lot of speculation on whether NBC will pick up Scrubs for another season, along with talk that ABC might pick it up should NBC decide not to renew it. Now, in an interview with TV Guide's Michael Ausiello, Scrubs creator/executive producer Bill Lawrence has confirmed that one way or the other, Scrubs will definitely return in the fall for a seventh and final season.

Scrubs is produced by ABC's sister company, Touchstone Television, and Braff tells Ausiello the production company obviously thought there was a future for the show when they signed Braff for a season seven last month. "I would've written a series finale [this season] if there was any chance the show was going to be canceled," said Lawrence in the TV Guide interview. "I was going to end the show, and the good people at ABC basically said, 'The show's on ABC next year if it's not on NBC. Do not end it.' And as if to prove their intentions, they went and signed Zach up for a contract next year, which is ridiculously foolish if they weren't planning to pick it up. So I have every reason to trust and believe them."

"Right now, I would almost bet it'll end up on ABC for its last season," Lawrence added. "But two weeks from now, when NBC gets [a look at] their pilots, it could shift."

Unfortunately it has been confirmed that Season 7 will be the final season of the Scrubs TV series. A total of 18 episodes will be made. We are not letting Scrubs go out without a finale.

I watched the pilot of this show, just to see what it was about, and I loved it. I've now watched just about every episode, seasons 1-6, and am anxiously awaiting season 7. I sure hate to see this series end, but at least the writers know it's ending, and at least there'll be a finale.

Wait, so the 7th season [on NBC] will be the final season .. right?
I would love for it to move onto ABC, but I don't want it to be an overkill.

Yes, unfortunately the 7th season will be the last. :( Too bad we have to wait until October 25th for the new episodes to start!
