This thread is about sitcom stars who can also sing, perform and/or play musical instruments, if you know what I mean. I'm going to leave it up to all of you to post any list of sitcom stars with a musical side and add the titles of some songs or instrumentals they're known for, so feel free to start posting.

Hal Linden (Barney Miller) has sang and danced on Broadway (as well as play clarinet)

Valerie Harper (MTM, Rhoda) has also sang and danced on Broadway. She also sang "Broadway Baby" and "Nobody Does It Like Me" when she guested on The Muppet Show.

Nancy Dussault (Too Close For Comfort) sang a few times on her show, and recently recorded a CD of show tunes, if I'm not mistaken.

Linda Lavin (Alice) sang almost every week on her show!

Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore did many song and dance routines on the Dick Van Dyke Show.

Florence Henderson (The Brady Bunch) sang many times as Carol Brady, and has also been in many stage and screen musicals. She also sang as a guest on The Muppet Show. Her Brady co-stars Maureen McCormick and Barry Williams have released CDs as adults. Barry has also sang onstage in productions of Pippin and They're Playing My Song, among others. Not to mention the whole Brady Bunch (except for Eve Plumb) starred in the horribly cheesy Brady Bunch Variety Hour.

Gary Sandy (WKRP) also sings in musical productions such as Chicago and Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (I actually saw him in the latter when the show came to Cleveland).

Lisa Whelchel (Facts of Life) recorded a gospel album during her Blair Warner days.

Mark Linn-Baker (Perfect Strangers) sang in the Peter Pan Peanut Butter commercials back in the '80s.

Telma Hopkins (Family Matters) sang as 1/3 of Tony Orlando and Dawn, and sang several times on FM.

Clifton Davis, Jester Hairston and Roz Ryan of Amen were all singers. Davis and Hairston were songwriters as well.

Desi Arnaz was already a famous singer and musician when I Love Lucy hit the airwaves. Of course his act was written into the show. His TV son Keith Thibodeaux (Little Ricky) played drums in a rock band back in the '70s. His real son Desi Jr. (Here's Lucy) was in a band called Dino, Desi and Billy.

Then there is Janet Jackson of Good Times...the rest is history.

Jackie Gleason used to compose music, and wrote the theme for "The Honeymooners" and on one episode of "The Jackie Gleason show" he performed a "ballet" with his wife that he wrote the music for. His wife was with the June Taylor Dancers who were regulars on THE JACKIE GLEASON SHOW.
I think he also wrote the theme for THE JACKIE GLEASON SHOW, too.

You're all well on top of things and I commend you for that. BTW, for anyone who listens to adult contemporary music, and this especially applies to Happy Days and Wings fans, let's not forget Crystal Bernard's hit duet with former Chicago bassist Peter Cetera from 1995, Forever Tonight. I thought you like to know.

Yeah. The band Thibodeaux was in was called David and the Giants. It was a secular band at first but all the members became Christians; so it became a Christian group during the '80s all the way up to the late '90s.

On The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet, we had:

Ricky Nelson: singer / composer / guitar player (lots of hits)
Ozzie: band leader / musician
Harriet: singer

Don Grady, Robbie from My Three Sons, works as a professional in the music industry.

Meredith MacRae of Petticoat Junction was a singer and released several recordings. She also toured with "The Girls of Petticoat Junction" with her fellow cast members.

I might mention too that Shelley Fabares from The Donna Reed Show had the hit recording "Johnny Angel" in 1962. And Jackie Gleason of The Honeymooners (among his shows) later released several music albums.

One Day At A Time - Bonnie Franklin (sing and dance), IMO she is a far better dancer than singer. MacKenzie Phillips sing.

Dick Van Dyke Show - Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore sing and dance. I love their musical numbers. They look natural together. It was like watching Fred Aistaire and Ginger Rogers in a sitcom.

Alice - Linda Lavin sing and played piano. My favorite time on Alice when she sing was the episode, My Son, the Dropout, when in the juicebar she played for herself on piano and sung It's Wonderful. I stood up in my house and applauded her. Also, in that same episode when Alice, Vera and Belle sung Don't Fence Me In. They looked like they were having fun and the harmony on that song was tight.

Too Close for Comfort - Nancy Dussault sings. What a powerful singer she is. I love the episode in season 2 when she sung Zing! With the Strings of My Heart. I would had loved it if they had given her more opportunities to sing on the show. I would love to see her guest star on Alice and to hear Nancy and Linda Lavin sing together.

Eight Is Enough - Betty Buckley and Grant Goodeve sing. Betty was the far better singer than Grant. She should had sung the theme song instead of Grant. Also Grant Goodeve played guitar.

Gimme A Break - Nell Carter and Telma Hopkins sing. There were some good episodes when Nell sung.

The Cosby Show - Phylicia Rashad sings. When she briefly sung to Cliff What Wonderous Love is This. She sung that.

Three's Company-Well John Ritter plays piano in one episode, Don Knotts play ukele in one episode, Norman Fell plays bugle in two episodes, Audra Lindley sings in several episodes
Too Close For Comfort-Nancy Dussault sang a few times on her show, and recently recorded a CD of show tunes, if I'm not mistaken. she also played two instruments such as a guitar and a trumpet in two musicals
Good Times-In an episode (Entertainment Evans Style) both Janet Jackson and Ralph Carter sang a duet, Ja'net DuBois sang, and Bern Nadette Serins did her dance number
Maude-In an episode called Maude's Musical Bea Arthur was Lady Liberty and evenAdrienne Barbeau was an indian girl, Rue McClanahan as Brunhilda and Esther Rolle (Pre Good Times) as an african lady
The Partrdige Family-The cast know how to sing and play their respective instruments

yea, but in "THE PARTRIDGE FAMILY" David Cassidy and I think Shirley Jones were the only ones who actually sang in the scenes of the group performing. All their songs were done by studio musicans.
