Christina Applegate is returning to series television as the star of ABC's comedy pilot "Sam I Am," which centers on a woman who wakes up from a coma with amnesia and has to rediscover her life.
The "Married... With Children" alumna previously headlined the short-lived NBC comedy "Jesse" and won an Emmy for her guest-starring role on "Friends."
Jean Smart, a two-time Emmy winner for her guest role on "Frasier," has also joined "Sam I Am." Jennifer Esposito was earlier cast as the amnesiac's best friend.
