I had a chance to preview the new DVD last night and I must say, we're all in for a wonderful treat! Kudos to the hard work and effort that was put into this one. You will find that the presentation (background graphics, menus, etc.) is visually much more appealing than the previous "I Love Lucy" DVD releases. It has a much more upbeat look and feel, which incorporates those adorable Lucy and Desi stick figures. The artistic aspect of the new set is mostly the vision and work of Jonathan Angus. This set also includes a lot of extras that I find more interesting than the ones used on the earlier DVDs. And they managed to find a wonderfully pristine copy of the full 75-minute "Havana" episode. It's looks beautiful!

A lot of time and hard work went into this DVD set, especially from Tom and Jonathan. And you folks should know that the team who worked on this did so for little to nothing. It was really just a labor of love. It's also important to know that CBS wasn't too keen on putting out this set in the first place. It took some arm twisting. And it's unlikely there will be any releases of "The Lucy Show" unless this set sells really well. CBS will be paying attention to how well this set sells, so please keep that in mind if you want to see them put out sets of "The Lucy Show." You can be a part in making that happen just by supporting this LDCH DVD set. And I promise you, you won't be disappointed. After what I saw yesterday, I am VERY eager for my own set to arrive in the mail this week. It's wondaful! :)

That really is a shame. I thought they would follow-up with "The Lucy Show" for sure. Very disappointing. :(

Though studios do pay attention to each others sales, Paramount owns and would distribute The Lucy Show, so it has nothing to do with how well I Love Lucy/Lucy Desi Hours sell......nothing has stopped paramount from starting to sell seasons of The Lucy Show years ago...

CBS and Paramount are now the same company, so yes, it does matter to them how well the LDCH DVD sells.

Here's an interesting read on the history of CBS Paramount Television. The ironic thing is this entity that ultimately agreed to release the LDCH on DVD, and now gets to decide whether TLS is released on DVD as well, wouldn't even exist if it weren't for Lucy and Desi!

I found the LDCH set at Wally World last night and bought it, and from what I have watched so far this is a veryw ell put together, all around excellent set! Can't wait to sink my teeth into it more. Darn work always gets in the way!

They should, at least, try to sell Season 1. I mean, weren't sales of ILL really successful. Collectors will undoubtedly buy a follow-up set. I think if they don't release TLS, they are missing out on more sales. I have read on several message boards, including non-dvd forums, where people were asking why the show isn't out on dvd. And these were not diehard Lucy fans either. Some of them remembered the show from it's run on Nick-at-Nite. I've talked to them about it and some of them actually prefer it to ILL. So if CBS/Paramount is looking for logistical sales, they are looking in the wrong place because fans of ILL are not the only ones who would purchase the set. There is a whole other group of buyers out there for TLS.

i just purchased this set, i felt like a looser because i was the first one at best buy i was there before they opened, lol, but all the same so far this set is fantastic, i only wish they would have put original openings for the show as an option to play when you are watching the shows like they did with the previous ILL set. Do you honestly think that TLS will be out anytime soon?

It gets very complicated with things like original openings because those original openings include names of sponsors and sponsors' products, images owned by other people and entities. There are a lot of legal issues involved that require clearance from everyone who might have a legal claim. Many efforts were made to get legal clearances. In some cases, requests were refused or ignored.

Good news so far: The new "I Love Lucy -- The Complete Seasons 7-9" is presently the top-selling TV series DVD on Amazon.com. It's ranked #21 overall. Let's just hope it can stay up there for awhile and get Paramount some good numbers, and also send them a message that there is still a big hunger out there for more "Lucy."

I have a feeling we will see The Lucy Show on dvd in early 2008. That's just an educated guess based upon the recent rumors of a "Complete Set" release by the end of 2007. If they sped things up a bit, it would be great to see Season 1 of The Lucy Show before Christmas or right after.

I was just at Wally World (Wal Mart) and saw it posted on sale for $21.99 here in town anyway. I paid $27.99 the day before it was to be released at the same Wal Mart.

Wow! That's a very good price. Now I'm going to go to Wal-Mart and buy the DVD set. Thanks for the tip. :)

No problem! I wish I would have waited a week longer, but saving $5 wouldn't be worth it for me! If they would have promised me a set this week then maybe I would have waited, considering I haven't had time to watch any of the shows outside of the first one!!! Oh well ...

Even though you didn't get the $5 off you still got your DVD set at a good price. I do think Wal-Mart's prices are some of the best that you can find but I can do without the "during the day crowds" which is why I only shop there at 7:00 am when they open.

I agree with you 100% about the crowds. And the weekend crowds ... forget it!!!!

Yeah, the price was a good price, but with a new home purchase that we just made, every penny is counting here for the next few months. Yet it didn't stop me from buying my Lucy (or will it keep me from going to Put in Bay to see Pat Dailey in a couple of months!)

I forgot about how bad the weekend crowds could be...some of the most rudest people you will ever meet while shopping. Definitely all normal people should avoid Wal-mart on the weekends.

Wal-Mart offers those low prices on the backs of its employees, who are some of the worst paid in the industry, and by exploiting poorly paid foreign labor (that they put up in substandard housing) that manufactures a significant portion of their merchandise. Their strategy has been to go into towns and communities throughout the country and drive out local mom and pop businesses who can't compete with their prices. So they not only take over the local market, but as a consequence they become one of the few employers for low skilled retail workers who often wind up with no option but accept their low paying jobs. And they have been one of the great success stories in sending tons of American manufacturing jobs overseas. This company has also been exposed as being one of the least charitable in the industry, which is why lately they have been running ads on TV to try to counter their uncharitable image. If you want to learn the details about the way they operate, I highly recommend Robert Greenwald's "Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price," which is available on Amazon.com for under $10. Personally, I prefer to spend a couple bucks more somewhere else rather than letting Wal-Mart have any of my money. Sorry to go off on this unrelated tangent, but when I hear people promoting Wal-Mart, it touches a raw nerve.

Sorry Rick, I'm here to discuss I Love Lucy, not a biased attack on Wal Mart. You shop where you like, I'll shop where I like. I'm not here to tell someone where to shop, all I was doing was sharing a price that I saw. If you can afford to pay the higher prices, then do so. Some of us with a mortgage and other expenses can't. That's all I'm saying on this, now back to I Love Lucy, starring Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz.

Nothing I wrote is biased. These are facts that have been reported extensively in even the most well-respected, mainstream and conservative publications (e.g., the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Business Week). I'm surprised this is news to you.

My local Walmart didn't even have the DVD so I bought it for $25.88 at Sam's Club this past Saturday. Looks like it's a big seller in the Oxnard area; even Sam's Club only had 3 copies!

Thanks for posting that. It's an interesting read and makes some points worth considering, but bear in mind the National Review is a very pro-business publication. I do find interesting, and a bit troubling, some of the points they *not* touch on, such as the living conditions of the Chinese workers who manufacture for Wal-Mart, and the reason Wal-Mart's prices are so low in the first place. I saw no mention of China at all in that article. The fact is Wal-Mart sources something like 95% of its merchandise from China, where they can get it really cheap (http://www.gsb.stanford.edu/library/programs/faculty_china_study_trip/pdf/review_walmart_china.pdf ). And because of Wal-Mart's size and market share, it has the biggest influence on the U.S. retail market. So in order to compete with Wal-Mart's prices, it's competitors are being forced to source from China as well. And that's has been having a huge impact on U.S. manufacturing. Last year, for the first time ever, more U.S. investment dollars were being invested outside the U.S. than inside the U.S. We also incurred our highest trade deficit with China, ever. And the federal government, which is also incurring more foreign debt than ever before in history, mostly to finance the Iraq war, is also being financed heavily by Communist China. So we have U.S. consumer dollars going to Communist China; U.S. investment dollars going overseas, particularly to China; jobs going to China; and a government with a growing debt to China. How long can we possibly sustain this? We can't expect everything to keep going in one direction and never be impacted by it. This is really going to come back and bite us.

Season 7-9 Lucy fans beware....
On the 1st disc - episode #2 - The Celebrity Next Door there is a crucial scene missing at 24:04. This scene is right after Fred & Ethel collide with the pie. The missing scene is Miss Bankhead tells Lucy that she is allergic to strawberries. Now this scene appears on the We Love Lucy specials from the early 90's. Funny thing is this episode is severly edited when it appears on that special. Here it is suppose to be uncut/unedited & here - the most crucial scene setting up the main gag at the end of the episode - is missing. We know the scene exists - but where did it go? Please contact Paramount to get the scene put back in for either a replacement disc or for the future complete I Love Lucy set. Thank you!!

I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour again. If there was a scene left out, it is probably worth it, just to have it. Did it really make a difference? I have all of the I Love Lucy DVD's
