Being Blair Isn't Easy (Season 2)

Jo: I can't believe I gotta wear a dumb dress.
Blair: It's a party what do you expect?
Jo: Where I come from people wear t-shirts and jeans.
Blair: Please, that's so tacky!
Jo: Oh yeah? So what does Miss Universe suggest I wear then?
Blair: Well, since you asked....
Natalie: (rolls eyes)
Tootie: Knowing Blair she probably expects you to wear some frilly, pink dress with ruffles.
Blair: And what's so wrong with ruffles?
Jo: Nothing if you're six.
Blair: How do you expect me to come up with an ensomble for you if you won't let me speak?
Jo: Go ahead.
Blair: I think a Versatchy off-white dress with a shall draped over it would work well.
Jo: What the heck's a shall?
Blair: Must I explain everything?

Mrs. Garrett comes in.

Mrs. Garret: Blair, there's someone on the phone for you.
Blair: Thanks Mrs. Garrett.

Blair leaves to answer the phone.

Mrs. Garrett: So what are you girls up to?
Tootie: Blair was just telling Jo what she thinks Jo should wear to the fall party.
Mrs. Garrett: Let me guess a dress?
Jo: Yeah.
Mrs. Garrett: I'm sure you girls can come up with some kind of compromise.
Jo: I guess. I ain't wearin' ruffles though.

Blair comes back in.

Jo: Ok let's get this over with. Show me a picture of the dress and I guess we can go shopping.
Blair: Maybe later.
Natalie: But Blair you were going to help Jo.
Blair: Not right now though.
Jo: Alright, I guess we can look at some (coughs) frilly (coughs) dresses, but I ain't promisin' anything.
Blair: Maybe Natalie and Tootie can go with you instead.
Tootie: But Blair you love shopping. You even said when you die you want to be buried in the mall.
Blair: I just don't feel like going shopping ok?
Mrs. Garrett: Maybe we all can go later.
Tootie: Do you think we could make some cookies Mrs. Garrett? I'm hungry.
Mrs. Garrett: I guess, anyone else up for cookies?
Natalie: I am!
Jo: Yeah ok.
Mrs. Garrett: What about you Blair?
Blair: No thanks.

Two weeks later....

Jo: Come on Blair, the party is tonight and you still haven't gone with me to the mall.
Blair: I don't feel like it.
Jo: You sick or somethin'?
Blair: No.
Jo: You've been quiet lately. You haven't been your obnoxious self. I mean you haven't insulted me in like two weeks. What gives?
Blair: I'm fine.
Jo: Yeah right.
Blair: What is this the third degree?
Jo: Ok settle down. Don't get your rich panties in a waud.
Blair: I'm sorry.

Tootie and Natalie come in.

Tootie: So Blair, what are you going to wear to the party?
Blair: I'm not going.
Tootie: What? Why?
Blair: I don't want to.
Natalie: Blair it seems like you've been sad for weeks now.
Blair: I certainly have not.
Jo: Come on Blair. You're not foolin' anyone.
Blair: Ok, so I'm a little sad, is that a crime?
Tootie: No.

During the party Blair is the only one that didn't go. Halfway through the party Mrs. Garrett goes to check on Blair.

Mrs. Garrett: Hi Blair.
Blair: Hi.
Mrs. Garrett: How are you?
Blair: Ok I guess.
Mrs. Garrett: You know Blair, we've all been worried about you. What's wrong?
Blair: I don't know. I mean I'm rich, popular, beautiful. I have it all. For some reason I'm not happy though.
Mrs. Garrett: You know Blair, some things money can't buy. You can't buy happiness.
Blair: Sure you can. I do it all the time.
Mrs. Garrett: That's only temporary joy though. It's not real happiness.
Blair: I guess that's true.
Mrs. Garrett: What's making you so sad?
Blair: All my friends back home have moved on. I used to be popular back home. I had friends. I was never bored, lonely, sad or anything.
Mrs. Garrett: You have friends here.
Blair: That's true, but it's not he same. Even here, we all have our own lives. Sure we interact, but I don't feel I have the same connection with everyone here that I had at home.
Mrs. Garrett: Adjusting isn't always easy.
Blair: I have fun here, but sometimes I feel like I don't fit in. I'm so different from Jo, Natalie and Tootie.
Mrs. Garrett: That's not a bad thing.
Blair: I know. Two weeks ago my mother called and said that she's going on a trip. She didn't invite me. She said she's going to be gone for six to twelve months. What am I supposed to do when summer comes and everyone goes home? I'm going to go home to an empty house.
Mrs. Garrett: That's a long trip. I'm sure you could probably go home with one of the girls for the summer. I'm sure they wouldn't mind.
Blair: I don't know. They are all going to be busy. What if they don't have time to talk to me?
Mrs. Garrett: I'm sure they would probably make time.

Jo comes running in.

Jo: Guess what! Eddie and I are going to spend the summer together!
Blair: (mumbles) That's great.
Jo: What's her problem?
Mrs. Garrett: She's not looking forward to summer.
Jo: Are you crazy?
Blair: I most certainly am not!

Natalie and Tootie come in

Tootie: Natalie and I are going to camp this summer and we're going to be roommates. It's going to be so much fun!
Blair: I guess I don't belong anywhere.
Mrs. Garrett: That's not true Blair.
Natalie: What's wrong?
Mrs. Garrett: Blair's concerned that she's going to be lonely during the summer. Her mother's going on a trip and she's going to be home alone.
Jo: That bites.
Blair: I guess you're right Mrs. Garrett. I can't buy my way out of this misery. I want to feel happy like everyone else, but how can I?
Mrs. Garrett: It's not easy Blair. It takes time. Some people are able to handle sadness better than others. What's important is that you have the support of your friends and family. Sometimes people back away when they think someone's sad. That can make the sadness even worse though. It seems that you could really use some friends and I'm sure that we will all be here for you, right girls?
Tootie, Natalie and Jo: Right.
Jo: Look Blair, I'm sorry I gaver you a hard time about the dress. I guess it's not so bad after all.
Natalie: You know, maybe instead of Tootie and I going to camp the four of us can spend the summer together.
Jo: I sorta had plans.

Mrs. Garrett looks at Jo.

Jo: Perhaps I could shorten my summer with Eddie and could spend part of it with you all.
Mrs. Garrett: I think things are going to be ok for you Blair.
Blair: Maybe I'm luckier than I realized. I might have a lot of money, but I'm even richer in another way.
Tootie: How?
Blair: I have great friends.

Blair finally notices Jo's dress.

Blair: (puts her hand to her heart) Dear God! Don't tell me people actually saw you wearing that.
Jo: It doesn't look that bad.
Blair: That's a matter of opinion.
Natalie: I think the old Blair is finally back!

Group hug.
