Swedish Hitch Hikers

In July 1983, 2 hitch hikers from Sweden went missing. A gas station attendant found their belongings in a dumpster near the station near Los Angeles. They were last seen near San Francisco.

A month later, their bodies were found near Santa Barbara, California. For a long time, police had nothing to go on.

In September 1991, an anonymous caller contacted the Swedish consulate in San Diego and claimed that he knew a man who used to do truck runs from Canada to Mexico, and that around the time of the murders, he claimed that he picked up 2 Swedish hitch hikers. It was also reported that he had a hatred of women.

Police later found the caller which led them to a man named Loren. At the time of the airing, Loren was still under investigation and yet to be charged.

This is such an odd tangent to go off on, but is anyone else wondering why Buena Vista is allowing these old segments of UM to be shown on YouTube? Don't get me wrong; I think it's outstanding that people can access these segments, as it may build interest in revamping and recreating the show I love so dearly, but the copyright infringment thing is really starting to make me wonder.

They probably don't know and/or care. It's not like the show is a cash cow by any means. Plus, even before the recent abundance of episodes, there have been other segments that have been on that site for well over a year. Frankly, I doubt there is much of anything they could do about it in the end even if they did care.

I'm not sure if I can type the link to YouTube, as it's caused problems in the past. What I WILL say is that if you do a Google search for "YouTube," you WILL find it.

Ugh... I always seem to forget about that old copyright thing. Well, the good thing about YouTube is if any copyright material is discovered, they send you a note to remove it. And naturally I'll remove all these UM videos I uploaded if the time comes. Until then, I guess I'll leave them alone.

(What's confusing to me, though is that I'd say 60% of all videos on YouTube are under copyright - sitcoms, soap operas, cartoons, etc. I don't see any of these get removed.)

I know! I hear you. My Copyright Law professor was saying the same thing. Copyright infringement is running rampant on YouTube. I wouldn't be surprised to see a Napster-style lawsuit coming down on the site. Not to be cynical, but enjoy it while you can. :)

Thing I don't understand about this is that these bastards at UM give us crappy theme'd sets and wont releasing season sets covering the "glory years" 87-93, so what are we ment to do. Having them put on youtube isn't going to stop me buying season sets IF they'd just release them.

I think you should be directing your criticism at First Look, not the UM folks. First Look is responsible for distributing the show's DVD releases. First Look (not the UM folks) decides on potential DVD releases for the show If the distributor won't release any new UM DVDs, there is little or nothing the studio can do about it. :(

Anyone who wants First Look to issue more UM DVDs should contact the company (letter-writing is strongly advised).

See? I'm not surprised that it already went down before I said anything. I agree with Space Invaderz, though. The YouTube segments wouldn't preclude me from purchasing a boxed set from First Look media.

Case in point? I'm streaming an episode of Veronica Mars from the CW Network's web site. Will I still buy the boxed set when it comes out? Hell, yes.

you are the BEST for uploading all those UM segments, I finally get to see lots of ones where i know about the cases but have never seen the episodes....thank you. I love watching them.

and F YOU to anybody who has a problem infringment garbage on copyright nonsense, big deal, ooooh nooooo it's hurting so many people by having youtube around. I bet UM or whoever profits is losing tons of $ because of youtube, ya right.

I was thinking, although having UM clips on YouTube violates copyright, It could also be used to UM's advantage. UM could use the clips as a way to improve the chances of unsolved crimes to be solved. Someone could stumble across one of the unsolved ones and recognise some of the wanted fugitives as someone they know. I know that police in some areas have already started doing that in some cases.

SiberianKiss - I'm glad you enjoy the videos. The whole copyright thing is stupid. I'm not making any money off of posting these videos. I'm just putting them on there for the fans of the show that don't get to see it much anymore.

AVERMAN - Yes, that is actually one of the reasons I post the videos. Almost all of the cases I posted are the cases that remain unsolved. I realize it's a long shot, but you never know. Maybe the right people could watch the right case one day. Well, it would be nice.
