NBC cancels Passions after 8 years. (http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117957538.html?categoryid=14&cs=1) All I can say is, it's about time. I bet you none of the storylines will be resolved when the show ends. JER is an idiot.

I just read about this at another site, I can not believe it. I'll admit that I don't watch Passions, but they should fired JER as headwriter and found someone else. I feel so bad for the cast and crew of Passions, I especially feel bad for the Passions fans. On a side note, at least it's being put out of it's misery. Hopefully it will go out with a bang.

Sorry for the double post, I should have asked this earlier, but since Passions is cancelled, what's going to happen with DOOL? Is another network going to pick it up or will NBC come up with a new soap opera? I wonder what their plan is for DOOL.

I'm not really surpised by the show's cancellation, as it has always been very low-rated, but its demise does make me worry about the state of daytime serials in general. Once a mainstay on American television, viewership has erroded steadily over the past several decades, with only a handful of soaps that are actually thriving. With Passions gone, DOOL will be the only soap on NBC's line-up, the first time in history the network has only had one soap opera airing...

I'm really not shocked or disappointed in this. Though it's absolutely ridiculous how JER handled this show. It was great and unique at first but then it just got absolutely awful at the end. I quit watching around 2002-2003, but came back sporadically to see if anything got better later on, and also to see a couple episodes when Marla Gibbs guest starred, but I found myself tuning out rather quickly. I mean, seriously, if anyone gets a chance, compare the earlier episodes to the ones that air now. It's really almost like watching two entirely different shows.

I'm surprised it lasted this long, don't get me wrong Passions is an alright soap opera, but these past couple of years, it's gone downhill, thanks to Reilly and his horrible. I mean he almost destroyed DOOL, luckily he was fired. Yeah, Passions was his baby, but he should have found a decent writer instead of himself. IMO, his writing is toxic to soap operas.

If there's one person I'm going to miss from Passions, it has to be Alistair. I know he's been gone ever since last year, but I've always liked him. I've wanted Alistair back for a while, but it won't happen now, unless he comes back for the final episode, which I would love to see!

Tabitha is the one I miss the most. Even now, she's not like she was when the show first started. Juliet Mills and Josh Ryan Evans owned this show when it first started and when Josh died, the majority of the show died with him. Not having the supernatural element as strong as it was everyday hurt a lot and fading Tabitha into the background was a horrible move. I haven't watched this show in years and I'll be so glad when it's over. To me this show should have ended when Josh died. It shows that it suffered big time because the ratings kept going down after that and the stories became more soapy with rapes, drugs, murders, hookers, and other crap. Passions should have stayed campy instead of trying to be a serious soap opera.
the recasting didn't help either. in just over 7 years, the show has had 4 kays, 3 simones, 3 jessicas..and 2 of almost everyone else.
let's see...who wasn't recast AT ALL:
julian
ivy
sam
luis
whitney
eve
tc
pilar
the priest lonnigan
*tabitha
everyone else has been added to the show, or recast.
*i list tabitha even though she was recast for a couple weeks last year. we didn't see her face, it wasn't for an extended period of time.
i have watched it since the beginning. it has gone down hill since they got rid of the witchcraft. once charity and grace left, (and timmy died) it was gone bad. the evil tabitha became the babysitter of all the teenagers and nothing more.

I never watched this show. But whens the last episode? And is there any kind of goofy finale planned for it or is it just gonna be on one day and off the next with no wrap up of a story or goofy ending
my bet on the final episode....
i say the show will go off with everyone in harmony seeing that alistir crane is still alive with the evil, and somewhat older, marty lopez-fitzgerald (crane) at his side.

Which unquestionably leaves Days Of Our Lives as the last remaining NBC Daytime drama on television! Yipes...!

I agree with you. This was another thing that annoyed me regarding the show. I know, in soaps, cast changes are not that uncommon, but the way it went through on Passions seemed absolutely ridiculous. They got a new Eve?! Didnt know that.

Don't forget two Fox's.
yep, forgot about two fox'es.
no, i listed eve under my list of who wasn't recast..the very small list of charaters that wasn't redone over and over...

I was thinking the same thing... this really doesn't bear well for DOOL, especially as NBC doesn't own the rights to Days outright and has to share any profits from the soap with the production company that produces it. Looks as if daytime dramas will be going the way of the dinosaurs on NBC...

Wasn't Teresa always the same too?
I could swear I saw one day where someone else played her, but she from what I know pretty much was always there.
I think that was because she was on maternity leave at the time. That's why there was a replacement.
right. she was replaced during that time..maybe two years ago, i think.

Sorry for the double post, did some research and found out that Priscilla Garita took on the role of Theresa Fitzgerald August 30, 2004 until September 28, 2004. Hope this helps!

Remember NBC is working to keep the show alive rather on another network or as a internet soap!

I don't watch Passions but I remember reading somewhere that the character was being recast remporarily while the actress was on maternity leave.
