In the episode LUCY GETS IN PICTURES Lucy wants to get discovered in Hollywood. Lucy accidently references to Caroline Appleby as LILLIAN Appleby. The character had been Lillian before, but was changed to Caroline later in the series. I guess Lucy got used to calling the character Lillian.
In REDECORATING THE MERTZES' APARTMENT Lucy stated to Ricky, "Let's paint the furniture and reupholster the old furniture." Instead of "Let's paint the APARTMENT and reupholster the old furniture." Desi caught this and ad-libbed the scene rather than stop the filming.
In PARIS AT LAST, the prop department made an error when they placed a bottle of California wine on the table in the french restaurant.

Ethel's middle name is May in one episode and something else (sorry I can't remember) in Million Dollar Idea.

I have read that Ethel's full name is Ethel Louise Roberta Mae Potter (Mertz). One time Fred calls her Ethel Louise although the most common usage is Ethel Mae. Vivian Vance's middle name is Roberta, so maybe that is where they got that from. I don't remember hearing it used, though.

What did Desi say to Lucy?
When Lucy flubbed the line, Desi said, "You mean paint the apartment and upholster the old furniture."
As for Ethel's middle name, Lucy calls her Ethel Roberta in "The Million Dollar Idea" when they start to deliver the salad dressing on roller skates.

Last year I noticed a prop goof in "California, Here We Come." Lucy names New Orleans, Louisiana as the first place the gang wants to see, but when she shows Ethel the map her line doesn't go anywhere near Louisiana.

These are interesting...for a long time, I Love Lucy was one of my favorite shows! I still really enjoy watching it--not a lot of good, funny, family, wholesome shows left out there
:(

Thanks Lodee and Ireneparalegal! :)
gidget, that map's hilarious. LOL
Interesting, though useless, and perhaps hilarious trivia about that map...
Looks like 29 states they drive through, covering approximately 12,115 miles.
A few interesting shapes to be seen... an A, a kite, a 'blockhead' kissing Lake Michigan, a pair of 'sharp' eyes staring at Houston and New Orleans, a triangular handle, 6 triangles in all, and most interesting, an evil-looking woman with a gaunt chin and pointed nose.

Good info abt the miles. To think, it was said the trip would be 3000 miles. Well, if they did all those stops, surely the trip ended up being 4 times that. It was also said they would be on the road for a week. Not if they took all those "side trips". I would ponder that Ricky said "Hell no, we ain't going to go visit all those places."

There are dozens of I Love Lucy goofs and inconsistencies. Some are obvious, and some are subtle or happen quickly. That is part of the charm of the show.
Check out east68street.com to see a great list of bloopers. That part of the site is being updated, so check back later too. The webmaster is in the process of adding photos next to the bloopers to show them as they happen.
If you see a mishap that's not on that list, you've got a good eye.

Thanx for sharing that website. Very interesting.
In the Madame X episode, when Fred asks which way Madame X went and he is told "this way" he asks "This way?" and they say "Yes", didn't Fred turn the opposite way, which is really nowhere since the Ricardo's window is on that wall and clearly, there is no way a hallway could be in that direction?

Yes that's right! There were several other discrepencies regarding the sets. A strange one is in "Lucy Wants New Furniture," in season 2. When Lucy runs through the Mertz' apartment to get the butter, there is a door to the left in their living room that she runs out of. Where does that go? I think it is the only time we see it. The wall on the left usually has a window. All other action in the Mertz apartment in the other episodes went in and out of the door on the right. It lead to the hallway, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom.
Check out the scene in "Be a Pal," season 1, where Lucy plays in the boys' poker game in the Mertz' apartment. The curtains were still draped over the backdrop from the previous setup (it was the Ricardo bedroom).
What about that window that Lucy & Ethel spy out of in "The New Neighbors," season 1? It was never seen or referred to again.

If Fred ran to the left, he could have ran up on the roof.

There was no hallway to the left. The Ricardo's living room window faced that direction, and as we recall the Superman episode where Lucy went out on the ledge, there is nothing there for Fred to run to. Except down.

Oh Yeah I totally forgot
There could have been a turn at the end of that hall. I remember on one episode when the girls and guys separated, Lucy and Ethel went to the left of the Ricardo's door to get ontop of the roof when they heard Ricky and Fred coming home. I'll have to pay attention next time or pop my DVD in.

That was when the Ricardos lived in a different apt. In this episode, they now had the window in the living room and the hallway was different.

In Episode 89: Lucy is Envious, in the final scene when they're all seated at the table and Lucy and Ethel discover that it was actually Ricky and Fred who dressed up as Martians to scare them, as Lucy raises her arm, her napkin flys out of her hand and she has to pick it up before she can start swatting Ricky with it.
There was no hallway to the left. The Ricardo's living room window faced that direction, and as we recall the Superman episode where Lucy went out on the ledge, there is nothing there for Fred to run to. Except down.
In "Lucy Cries Wolf" isn't the stairway that goes to the attic just to the left, going out of the Ricardos' door? But it seems that doesn't jive with Superman ep, where that vacant apartment had a window around the 'corner' [on the outside]. It must have been an L-shaped building, or had a courtyard we never see.
Don't we wish our homes could be instantly converted like that, depending on what we need at the time?

No. Again, that stairway was in season one. When the Ricardos moved, the layout was different. There is no way to turn left when there is a window and ledge in that direction.

OMFG...NO YOU DIDN'T DRAW THIS... You go girl!!!!!!
Ok, still couldn't be because when Lucy was out on the ledge, you could see windows on the opposite side. Remember the pole Lucy was hanging onto, there were windows. Good Try though Brie.

That's right. Where Brie drew the hallway (good job, btw), was the vacant apartment where Lucy climbed out of the window as Superman.
When the Ricardos lived in their first apartment (4A), they lived at the top of the stairs and the Mertzes lived at the bottom of the stairs. There were also stairs leading up to the roof to the left from Apt. 4A. There are views of the hallway in "The Courtroom" (season 2), "Vacation From Marriage" (season 2), and "Lucy Cries Wolf" (season 4), for example.
Due to the locations of the apartments and the stairs, the Ricardos should always turn right to go downstairs to the Mertz', and the Mertzes should always turn left to go upstairs to the Ricardo's. There is a mistake in "The Courtroom" because they all run out of the Mertz' and turn right to get to the Ricardo's.
After they moved near the end of season 2 (to 3B/D), however, things change and they really don't make sense. The Ricardos supposedly live down the hall from the Mertzes. When anyone exits the Ricardos apartment they go right. When anyone exits the Mertz' apartment they go left. So that means the Ricardo's apartment should be where the stairs are!
Check out "Lucy Cries Wolf." When the thugs mug Lucy, she is out in the hallway in front of her apartment at the base of the stairs. That is the same door at the base of the stairs that represents the Mertz apartment all along.
The window in the Mertz living room behind the couch is not in an exterior wall, and there is no way that they can share the balcony outside their kitchens as in "Never Do Business with Friends" (last ep. season 2). It still bugs me about that door on the wrong side in the Mertz' living room that supposedly leads to the balcony and a shortcut for Lucy ("Lucy Wants New Furniture").
I can't even begin to think where Mrs. Trumbull lives!

Thank you for that detailed analysis of this debate. LOL
Brie, you made a good drawing there, that was awesome. But yeah, Madame X nailed it with the vacant apartment...no way could there be a hallway there.
Also, I too hated that doorway in the Mertzes' apt. It didn't make sense at all in that episode when Lucy wants new furniture. It irks me soooo much seeing Lucy run like crazy through a door that should really not lead anywhere!!!!!

I just watched "L.A. At Last" and I noticed there was a piece of tape on the booth in the place where William Holden sat. I'm guessing that was his 'mark' for the scene. Can't be sure though.

I don't know if this is a goof, but in the episode abt Cornel Wilde upstairs in the penthouse, the Ricardos hotel room was MUCH BIGGER than his considering he had the penthouse.
Also, same episode, when Lucy is on his balcony, there is no rail on his balcony, however, there is one on Lucy's balcony.
How did Lucy climb back up to her hotel room from the palm tree that caught her fall?
Why didn't Ricky ask abt that obvious band-aid Lucy had on her face from the cut she received from falling onto the palm tree? I mean, it was pretty obvious, my thought would be to ask "What happened to your face?" before asking, "What took you so long?"
