What did our western heroes name their horses. Louie Lamour said in reality "western men never named anything they might eventually have to eat". LOL

The obvious ones are:

Lone Ranger and Silver
Tonto and Scout
Cisco Kid and Diablo
Pancho and Loco
Roy Rogers and Trigger
Gene Autry and Champion

On Bonanza:

Little Joe rode Cochise, a Pinto. Hoss rode Club, a bigger horse, dark brown, half thoroughbred and half quarter horse. Ben had Dunny Waggoner, a buckskin thoroughbred. Adam rode Sport, a flashy, bright sorrel gelding.

Though I remember the show from syndication in the 60's, I don't recall the horses' names, but according to imdb.com, Will Bill Hickock -- Buckshot, and Jingles -- Joker.
