-Friday Night Movies
Fridays at 10pm (with an immediate repeat)
We all know them and we all love them. We have all seen these movies so many times we can quote entire scenes verbatim…yet we still watch them whenever they’re on. These classics are back for nostalgic enjoyment this fall on TV Land beginning October 6th and airing every Friday through December 8th.
TV Land, your home for classic shows…and movies!

DECEMBER Airdates and titles are as follows:

Friday, December 1:
Stir Crazy
Starring Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor. Two men get jobs that require them to dress up like giant woodpeckers and then are mistaken for bank robbers. After the two are arrested and sent to jail, they decide to break out of prison and track down the real thieves.

Friday, December 8:
Great Balls of Fire
The story of Jerry Lee Lewis, arguably one of the greatest and certainly one of the wildest musicians of the 1950s. His arrogance, remarkable talent, and unconventional lifestyle often brought him into conflict with others in the industry, and even earned him the scorn and condemnation of the public.

NEW YORK, Nov. 22 -- TV Land counts down The 100 Greatest TV Quotes & Catchphrases in a week-long look at the memorable sayings from cartoons, television series, commercials and news programs over the past 60 years like Donald Trump's (The Apprentice) "You're fired" to Billy Crystal's (Saturday Night Live) "You look mahvelous!" to Walter Cronkite's "And that's the way it is." So-so changes. It's good to get rid of the things that have been over-done (i.e. Good Times and Three's Company), things that don't belong (The Cosby Show, Murphy Brown and MARATHONS!). I like The Jeffersons at 10-11PM and 2-3AM everynight, good times!

All in the Family is back in the evenings, nice! That Girl, I figured it would join, not bad, at least they aren't giving it 5+ time slots. :)

Overall -- nice changes TV Land.

OK, I sorta do like this. I can watch Amen on i now at 7pm and watch The Jeffersons at 2am(most nights I can't watch at 10pm). I might watch All in the Family as well. I'm glad the odd times for late night shows are over. That was SO annoying, though I did like the mini-marathons.

I figured it would be Gunsmoke or Bonanza. TVLand plays those two to death. :( They get 14 hours on weekends not counting the morning slots. That's way too much. Give Benson and Murphy Brown some air time. I don't like TVLand as much as I used to. They used to have several good shows like The Munsters, The Addams Family, Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie, Adam-12, and Dragnet. Andy Griffith used to be in my top 5 but I've gotten sick of it. At least they still have Green Acres, Happy Days, Leave it to Beaver, and Cheers, with M*A*S*H coming in January.

In my opinion, this schedule has its good points, but also some very bad points. First of all, I like that they took away the minimarathons, and that more shows get more time in the morning and early afternoon slots. A major bad thing is that the shows that do well are all put in primetime, with about 4 airings of each. That means it takes away for otehrs that don't get any airings, especially Murphy Brown and Benson. I mean, they could have given them an airing at like midnight, replacing a Star Trek episode, or even in 4 in the morning. Also, I'm really going to miss the Jeffersons at 7:00-8:00, and at 9:30. I watched every episode every night when it is on at those times, but the 10 and 4 o'clock slots are bad for me. At least I got to see the entire show for its first cycle. Also, no more Three's Company. I mean, I can understand that it is off the schedule due to the number of airplays, but even once would have been good for me. Also, in my opinion, there is too much Star Trek. I mean, I don't mind the show, but 3 airings a day is a bit too much, especially since its an hour show. That's almost as if TVland were to give the Jeffersons 6 episodes a day, since thats only a half hour show.

TVLand.com to Air Full-Length Episodes of Marlo Thomas's Ground-Breaking Series That Girl and Emmy Award-Winning Special Free to Be ... You and Me Throughout December

Episodes of Series and Uncut Version of Special Premiere Online on December 1

48-Hour Weekend Marathon of Most Popular Episodes as Well as Special Airs Saturday, December 9 and December 10 on TV Land

NEW YORK, Dec. 1 -- It's Marlo, Marlo and more Marlo beginning Friday, December 1 when TV Land and TVLand.com kick off a month-long celebration showcasing the ground-breaking series That Girl and the Emmy Award-winning special Free To Be ... You And Me. The celebration -- in conjunction with the Season 2 release of That Girl on DVD -- includes the following: full-length episode streams of That Girl on TVLand.com; the uncut version of the pop culture classic Free To Be ... You and Me online until January 31; a 48-hour weekend marathon of the series and special the weekend of December 9 on TV Land and a sweepstakes in which fans can enter to win one of 50 DVD sets of That Girl's seasons one and two.

Beginning Friday, December 1, TVLand.com will begin offering full-length episodes of That Girl for a limited time. Fans will be able to access twelve of the series' most popular episodes (three episodes a week will be rolled out throughout the month) including "Don't Just Do Something, Stand There," "Anatomy of a Blunder," "The Good Skate" and "Counter Proposal." TVLand.com will also stream the uncut version of the 1974 Emmy Award-winning special Free To Be ... You and Me through January 31. Additionally, the website will feature commentary from Marlo Thomas, star of the acclaimed series and special, and clips of some of the most-loved moments from That Girl. Fans can also go to TVLand.com to enter a sweepstakes to win DVD sets of the first two seasons of That Girl. No purchase is necessary and all entries must be received by December 23.

TV Land's on-air celebration begins Saturday, December 9 at 6 a.m. ET/PT with a 48-hour marathon featuring episodes of That Girl as well as Free To Be ... You and Me. The full schedule will be available on TVLand.com.

The beloved TV series That Girl premiered on ABC in 1966 and was the first of its kind to center around a young female character taking charge of her own life. Marlo Thomas starred as Ann Marie, a young woman living in New York City seeking to become an actress. As the show's producer, Thomas set out to create a role model for women on prime time television, proving that they could be strong, independent and happily single.

Free To Be ... You and Me, also produced by Marlo Thomas, aired in 1974 and featured life lessons delivered in skits, short stories and songs performed by Marlo Thomas, Mel Brooks, Alan Alda, Michael Jackson, Rita Coolidge, Harry Belafonte, Roberta Flack, Rosie Grier, Kris Kristofferson, Bobby Morse, Tommy Smothers, Cicely Tyson and Dionne Warwick. In 1972, Marlo Thomas produced Free to Be ... You and Me as a record album for her niece. Through songs such as "William's Doll" -- a song about a little boy who is teased because he wants a doll -- and humorous skits such as "Boy Meets Girl" -- about two babies (Mel Brooks and Marlo Thomas) who discuss whether each is a boy or a girl based on their likes and dislikes -- children listened to the underlying message not to settle for what's expected of you and it's okay to be who you are.

The album sold 500,000 copies and inspired a companion book which went on to become a best seller. Two years later, the songs and stories were performed for television -- a project of The Ms. Foundation for Women, Inc. -- and went on to win an Emmy Award for "Outstanding Children's Special (Evening)" that year.

Yeah, that's the good thing about it all. It'll be great to see the show through the marathon and the occasional download lol Hopefully it does do good, because this'll be the first time I've seen the show since I was like...6 or 7. I was hoping they'd do what they did back in 2001 for the 5th anniversary this year, and show an assortment of their past shows, but that didn't happen, unfortunately.

No big deal about the removal of Good Times, Three's Company and The Cosby Show. Cosby comes on Nick at Nite at a good time slot so that means its doing well over there. Good Times has been played out since the summer. They did overkil with the marathons during the week and 48 hour marathons. Besides TVOne shows it uncut and all the seasons are on DVD.

How come 227 is getting anymore airtime? It has been stuck on Sundays since the second week it premired on the network. They never even gave it a launch marathon like they do other shows. Like I said previously, they set 227 up to fail. I hate that Benson is no longer getting air either. That is another show that is not on DVD and hard to find in syndication. Does anyone know when or if TVLand will air Whats Happening Now since they have the rights to it?

Did anyone think the Merrython sucked? I like the episodes they featured on it last year a whole lot better than this one. It seemed they had more of a variety last year. I liked the Highway To Heaven episode I saw last night and the Cheers episode as well, but last year they played a Night Court episode where they got snowed in on Christmas Eve, and one episode of Little House On The Prairie where Pa and Laura buy the same gift for the mother, both which weren't included this year, not that I saw (correct me if I'm wrong). I know they had a lot to pick from and its probably better not to show 2 episodes of one particular show so room can be made to include other series' but I felt those 2 episodes mentioned above were a lot better than the ones picked.

Yes, they will be on time next week, as the Catchphrase 5-part series is airing. So, Jeffersons will air 2-3am and S&S 3-4am that week. Then the week after the weird times ("off the clock") are back.

I was just wondering How long has What Happening been on Hiatus from TV Land Schedule

JT

I just have to say that I am simply loving the "That Girl" marathon this weekend. It's been so, so, so many years since I've seen it, nearly 9 years I think. I love it and I'm glad I'm taping it. Hopefully the ratings were very good and TVLand (or somebody) decides to put the show on its regular schedule.

Maybe if it does well for them they'll air it nights at 9:00PM and 9:30PM. That's what they SHOULD have done instead of bringing "What's Happening" back to those times, given the limited amount of episodes, and I have a feeling that it won't make it at those times. If ST had to be replaced that bad, they should have brought "Good Times" back or even air "Leave it to Beaver" then. Just doesn't make much sense.

Why was the show removed in the first place? If it was ratings, I don't think they would have brought it back at the times they did.

I agree about WH!!. I love the show, but airing it in the prime slot of primetime, back-to-back, isn't good, IMO. The show only has 65 episodes, so 14 airings a week will go through the whole run in about a month. That is just as bad as when they had "Gidget" on every night except for Fridays and Saturdays.

Personally, I'm ready for the return of "The Love Boat," but that's just me...

If you recall, What's Happening!! aired for over 6 months at 11 p.m. and it did well. The afternoon slot even did well. It is a proven player and can score in the ratings. But this looks only to be temporary and it is holding the slot for MASH. Good Times is having contract airplay issues, that is why it is not airing. Same goes for Three's Company. Both of those are among TV Land's best in the ratings, so they are missed, but hopefully they can return in early 2007. And Beaver is airing quite a lot in other day parts.

I think WH!! did much better than Star Trek already at 9 p.m. on Thursday. There is now a good flow from 9pm-12am (WH, Jeffersons, S&S).

I guess that explains it.....kind of smart, it's been gone for so long it's almost a 'new' show. It won't take them long at all to go through a rotation, though, like JT said, roughly a month. They aired The Munsters for years though, and it only had 72 episodes, and they only actually aired 71.

I'm surprised they never brought Cheers, Night Court, 227, Benson, Wings, etc back to the regular lineup. Especially Cheers, given the show's long run and huge success; it apparently did well at Nick@Nite and on TVL at first. I doubt they'll renew Cheers next August.

227 was just never given a chance; Night Court and Wings were just too new for TVL I guess.

It is sad to see what TVLand has become. Remember how good it was 10 years ago? All shows unedited and only retromercials for commercials. It is nice to see That Girl after it's 9 year or so hiatus. Too bad the only way to see it undedited is online (or buy the dvds). This commercial crap starting at 9:00pm is nuts. Do we really need all these extra commercials every damn night? Thank God I no longer have to watch TVLand now that the That Girl marathon is over. But then most channels that were good when they started are now very poor in comparison.

JT

In response to PB...

Yeah, that makes a lotta sense, about "M*A*S*H," I mean. That'll no doubt be its timeslot when it comes, and the back-to-back makes sense for it. This WH!! in primetime definitely is going to be a while-it-lasts thing, I think.

Is That Girl going to be added to the schedule on TVLand or were they just having a marathon to advertise the dvds?

I am surprised, but, the ratings were not great. They were lower than the past months' regular scheduled weekends. Thus, there will not be any further consideration of "That Girl" for addition to the regular schedule.

Oh well, there goes hope for something other than Sanford and Son, Little House, Bonanza, Gunsmoke, Andy Griffith, and The Jeffersons. I like those shows but they're overplayed! At least they've tapered off on Sanford and are going to downplay The Jeffersons next month.

So, let me get this straight - Green Acres will be airing 5x per day? That's a surprise.

Nice to see Beaver bumped up more. I was kinda skeptical about how long WH!! would last at 9/9:30..it's a good daytime (once a day only) show or maybe double episodes on the weekends.

The schedule is definately improving. What do you think PB?

While I'm not anti-Andy, they are getting ridiculous. Of course they are also going by ratings. If people don't tune in to other shows, those other shows will be dropped. When TVLand is 24 hrs of Andy & Beaver, everyone will know why.

Yes, 5 airings a day for Green Acres, at least on weekdays.
What's Happening!! would have done much better at 11 & 11:30 p.m. They should have moved Sanford & Son at 9 & 9:30p.m. That is too much Andy at a time, but Andy will only be airing 4 times a day despite this, as it is only in primetime. On Sundays it is 5 because of the Sunday morning airing.

I would think in January they'll change some of this. Andy four in a row seems temporary to me. Maybe they will air Little House at 7 & 8 in January...just guessing.

clj2
12-18-2006, 10:46 AM
They should have canned that early morning and 10:00AM airing of Beaver and replaced them both with Lucy, then done Beaver at 8:00/8:30..would seem more logical to me. Even though I like TAGS I don't want to sit and watch four episodes in a row!
