Amzie Strickland, the wonderful character actress who appeared in numerous TDVDS episodes, passed away on July 5 from Alzheimer's disease. She was 87. I'm surprised this hasn't been posted before now. I came across a post on the Andy Griffith Show thread of SO just by happenstance. Here is a short notice from an entertainment web site. I loved Amzie Strickland in TDVDS, TAGS and I Love Lucy. She was so funny! May she rest in peace.

How about a character she played in an episode so we can place her face?

She played Edwin Carp's mother in "The Return of Edwin Carp." Laura's aunt in "Who and Where Is Antonio Stadivarius." The laughing lady in the shoe store in "Young Man With a Shoe Horn." The nurse at the hospital in "That's My Boy?!" The wife of the pillow salesman in "The Case of the Pillows." The housekeeper who inherits money from Rob's Great-uncle Hezekiah in "The Great Petrie Fortune." There are many others that I can't think of right now, because it's late at night! I'll try to remember some more and let you know.

Oh, and she also plays the lady who bids against Laura for the Thing in "The Masterpiece." I can't think of any more. Can anyone else name other episode in which Amzie Strickland played?

Lolac, I think you nailed em all. She had a very distinctive voice. She was great in all the above shows, She was also in another of my favorite shows, Dragnet. Its sad, all the great character actors are leaving us.

Not all that long ago, three years maybe?, Amzie was in a commercial portraying a white-haired grandmother who the food company that the commercial was for was trying to get her recipe or something like that. Sorry for being so vague about the whole thing. I wish I could remember the product. Anyway, I recognized her immediately and was happy to see her again.

Thanks, Lolac.
I didn't know her by name, but her work I know well.
