...that a couple of the presenters tonight had stage fright. These are professional actors and for some reason a couple of them were so jittery and nervous being in front of a live crowd. Isn't that their job?

i'm sure some aren't used to being infront that large of an audience, unless they're a stage actor.

I swear the exact thought crossed my mind tonight Brian. I even mentioned it to my husband. Blythe Danner fell to pieces when she won. I'm sure it's nerve wracking, but these are trained professionals. Have a couple of prepared statements ready, just in case.
Conan O'Brien's opener was so funny. Tom Cruise in the closet on South Park, lol.

Barbra Streisand gets stage fright all the time. These professionals have their moments also. I think some don't expect to win and they can't think off the top of their heads what to say.

What got me to create this thread, was an actress who was presenting an award with Omar Epps. As she came out, she was talking to herself and saying stuff like, "Oh my God...ok" like she was extremely nervous in front of a live crowd. I was like, Huh??? Isn't that what you get paid to do?

Stage fright is normal for anyone. I doubt they're nervous because they're infront of people. Its because they dont have a script memorized. And really, if they prepare a speech, people would be complaining just as much about how conceited these celebrities are because they have one prepared. It's not "real" when you have a speech prepared. I mean who wants to hear, "I want to thank my makeup artists, my hair dressers, Vera Wang for my dress, blah blah blah." I like when they're nervous and don't know what to say, it makes you realize that they're normal.

I swear some of them think it's cute to get flustered. I don't doubt that it's genuine with some, but sometimes, it's just so over the top. Back to Blythe Danner. She's been around for decades, and has won many awards. She wins tonight, and just opened her mouth with her hands to her face like the kid in the movie, Home Alone. All she talked about how she she wasn't prepared to win. HELLO, have a few sentences prepared.
I'm sorry, but she's a seasoned professional. Just thank a few people involved in the project, praise the film you won for, thank the Oscars, Emmys or whatever, and call it a night.

When all you have to do is read off a teleprompter, I am baffled how trained professionals get nervous. I can understand a director or producer who isn't use to being in front of cameras, but actors...no.

What the kind of performance was that Barry Manilow just gave? That was awful.

I bet if some of these actors have only done dramas or other one camera shows with no audiences, then a lot of people would make them nervous. And they have no script to memorize, so it's like they don't know how to talk.

He was probably in alot of pain because he was scheduled to have hip replacement surgery this morning. I'm not sure if his 'old hip' was bothering him or not.
I've seen him in concert twice and he puts on a great show, and I've been to many, many, many concerts.

Addressing a crowd is entirely different from performing or acting in front of a crowd.

For years Cher would not even sing (even backup) without Sonny in the room and when she hosted her own series after they split up she said that she was terrified going out there alone. Wonder if she still has that problem?

Carly Simon was another person who had to deal with the fear of stage fright.
There were many years that's passed that she wouldn't get out there and sing in front of a live audience.

So true.
These people may be professionals, but when receiving an award that they are not expecting, it leaves them unprepared...when they are working on stage, in front of a camera, etc. they are prepared, they read a script and so forth. They know what to do right before a performance or a scene...they don't know what to say if they don't expect to win and don't prepare a speech. It's easy to think, "Well, if I win, I will know what to say..."
