Greetings,

This doesn't really have anything to do with Unsolved Mysteries but I was just wondering if anyone remembers a show on A & E called 'InSearch Of'.

The show ran on A & E in the early to mid-90s and tackled world mysteries like The Great Pyramid and the like. 'In Search Of' ran mainly in the mornings. I've watched it a few times and found it interesting and informative. I liked their theme music too.

Anyone remember?

I think Allen Landsburg hosted it....I could be wrong, though.

Cheers :)

It was Mr. Spock himself (Leonard Nimoy) who hosted this show. It originated on NBC, waaaay back in the days.

I didn't know NBC had it before A & E.....great show!

How long ago was that?

In the 70's. It would come on right before "Emergency" on Saturdays.

I LOVED "In Search Of..."! The 70s sythesizer music was so freaky and Leonard Nimoy's voice just the right amount of creepy. My brother and I used to watch it on A&E late at night when we were kids. I especially loved the Bigfoot episodes with the bad reinactments, sound recordings of Bigfoot, and that wacky "anthropologist" who would examine Bigfoot prints.

That show would spook me out too...and this was watching it at 7:30 pm on Saturdays. I really believed a lot of those things. There is one that sticks out in my mind, the episode abt people who "dreamt" abt planes crashing and they tried to call the FAA and "warn" them abt an impending plane crash...no one would listen, and then BOOM, an airliner would crash. One man was so disturbed at the fact that he dreamt many times abt a plane with a certain number and no one listened to him...until it was too late.

I've tried searching for 'In Search Of' on the Net but can't seem to find it....It's very hard to find info on the show, I've tried the A & E and NBC websites too.

I think 'In Search Of' did a story on the Nazca Plateau, who could've built it, although I'm not sure.

I used to like the ancient mysteries the show presented.

I loved the original In Search Of...

My favorite episode of all time was the Amelia Earhart one.
Soooo creepy!

with the horrible graphics, those black and white pictures and that depressing red background, as well as the SAME stories over again, ie, Bigfoot, Lochness, Bermuda Triangle, and Ameilia Earhardt, its a wonder why so many kids were nerds in the 70s. Thank god that show disappeared!

Wow, Irene! I had no idea there were that many episodes. I forgot about the "Wild Children" epi! They used to show that one on A&E a lot. Two episodes I am now dying to see: "Psychic Sea Hunt" and "Lovers / Possession / Robot". Ha!! :p

I remember that one. It was titled 'Air Disaster Predictions', I believe. The crash he was dreaming of was AA Flight 191 which crashed just after takeoff from Chicago O'Hare on 25 May 1979 - the worst single aircraft crash in US history.

I have a copy of one of the In Search Of tapes - a story that I have reseached extensively was the subject out of several on that particular night. I didn't know that I was going to be put out there with a lot of weird stuff. That is not how the production company presented it to me - I was very disappointed and didn't want to do any more documentaries after that...but I did do a couple more with the promise that my story would not be portrayed in that manner again.

I have the complete first season of In Search Of... converted from 16MM films and not the History Channel showings.Generally 8.5 out of 10 in video quality.

Yeah, I remember seeing reruns of the 70's Leonard Nimoy version, which I found much better than the newer 90's version.

This brings me to something. Why is it that originals are always better than sequels or newer versions? I think it may be a factor of human psychology.

Because some people just can't leave well enough alone. People like stuff for what it is, and then it's get changed from it's original design which displeases the people that liked it in the first place and fails to attract new audiences who didn't like it in the first place. It's not just with television, it's with practically everything. It's that blasted total quality management (TQM) malarkey.

Here is a classic example (of which there are many examples): I don't know how far-reaching the Bill Knapp's chain of restuarants were, but there were several in my area in the 80's and 90's. It was a profitable restaurant chain. It had a tendancy to attract older customers, but they never had a problem attracting sales. It was THE restaurant of choice for the older crowd. But this wasn't quite good enough for Bill Knapps', so they made all sorts of changes to attract a younger crowd: they added televisions, reconstructed the menu, had kids color on the wall, started taking reservations and other things equally ridiciulous. What happened: the older crowd left for good and it never did attract that younger crowd they sought after. End result: the chain folded, and people went to their jobs only to find a padlocked door and a note on the wall.

In Search Of was great. The stories were usually good, and I loved the weird 70s retroness. I take it that it's not on TV anymore?

I remember at least for a while in the mid-90s, A&E showed In Search Of at 7 PM, and then Lifetime would show Unsolved Mysteries at 8. I was a weird little kid. :P

I can remember my dad watching the show in the early 80's when I was young. I always wonder who the lady was beside the airplane in the closing credits. Of course AI found out later that it was Amelia Earhardt.
