Hi,

I'm working on a television special which will focus on the Funniest Moments that have aired on TV from the 1950's to the present. I would love to know know what you guys think are the funniest, and what episodes they came from (if you know). Your thoughts on this are very important to us...we want to hear from the experts!

Thanks in advance for all your responses.

Best,

Darrell

Agree with John Ritter's "Up in the Air" dance scene; that one's a classic.

Hmm, I would say from All in the Family, the episode "The Bunkers & the Swingers" where Edith accidentally starts writing to a couple who enjoy swapping spouses, the episode where Sammy Davis Jr. kisses Archie, ("Sammy's Visit") "Mike Meets Archie," "Archie in the Cellar," and tons of others.

The Andy Griffith Show: My faves are "Convicts-at-Large," (Barney starts dancing with a hefty lady criminal in an attempt to throw her in jail--funny stuff!) "The Haunted House," (my favorite episode; Gomer and Barn check out a haunted house) all of the eps with Ernest T., ("The Education of Ernest T. in particular) "Barney and the Choir," etc.

Green Acres: Every single episode...they're all too wacky to pick just a few.

I'm not sure if you're doing game shows, but there are lots of moments to choose from in that area, as well, most notably in older shows such as "Match Game," "The Newlywed Game," "Tattletales," "Hollywood Squares," etc.

Sorry; I got carried away with listing things...hope this helped!

Thanks for your thoughts...great to know...didn't know about the John Ritter moment, I'm going to put that along with the others on my list. I have always been partial to the military comedies.

The first great comedy was Phil Silvers as Master Sargant Bilko in the Phil Silvers show. Set in mythical fort Baxter, Silvers and a great cast afforded the viewer with many laughs in the early 50's. Bilko tried each week to outwit the men and of course Col. Hall, played perfectly by Paul Ford. Funny, funny Show.

At the same time was McHale's Navy, with Ernest Borgnine as Commander Quentin McHale. I thought the best portrayal was by Joe Flynn as Captain Binghamton. Tim Conway got his start as Ensign Parker. Another funny show.

This show only lasted for two seasons but I loved F-Troop. My favorite character was Wild Eagle and his sayings always slayed me. Really missed the show when it got cancelled.

I agree about the "Birth" episode of Murphy Brown - it's hysterical! But I'm shocked no one has mentioned Chuckles the Clown's funeral on Mary Tyler Moore. Mary gets the giggles and tries, rather unsuccessfully, to hide it. Finally the priest tells her to stand and "Laugh, laugh for Chuckles," b/c that's what he would've wanted, and Mary responds by dissolving into tears. That discription did NOT do the scene justice, but anyone who's seen it will tell you it's hilarious!

The Andy Griffith Show - Barney Fife's "Nip it in the bud!" routine.

The Honeymooners - The look on Ralph's face when he thought he was inheriting the old lady's "Fortune". Turns out "Fortune" was her bird.

Ralph Kramden trying to read an IRS tax document to Ed Norton. He's going on and on, reading all this technical jargon. He gets frustated and screams, "I don't even know what I'm reading!".

I have come up with some more...

MAUDE - Vivian naked and opens the door thinking it was Arthur, but instead was Maude and Walter.
NIGHT COURT - Dan not going after Teri Hatcher's character, even though she was so sexy, the last scene is hilarious!
MADtv - Sesame Street skit where Big Bird has bird flu
WELCOME BACK KOTTER - Sweatside Story when Mr. Woodman acts tough
MARRIED WITH CHILDREN - Al in bed with Marcy!
SOAP - Burt drunk at Sally's apartment
HEARTS AFIRE - The episode where they visit the White house. The younger son, Ben, answers Bush's phone and talks to the President of India.
CHARLES IN CHARGE - Tons of Buddy moments from the Powell seasons. Such as the one (the episode where Jamie is in charge of the garage sale) where he gets a tan inside the house and Charles throws water at him and he screams. Or the time Buddy turns into Budwon and then Cruton (the episode where Jamie falls for a fake guru).
8 SIMPLE RULES - Rory had great lines...like the episode "Career Choices" where Bridget has to choose a career, the last scene where Rory opens the door is hilarious.

"THE HONEYMOONERS"-the scene where Norton's showing Ralph how to hit a golf ball; and just before he swings the club; he looks down at the ball and says HELLO, BALL!
the scene in the episode where the Kramdens and Nortons decide to pay for a TV together; and Norton comes into the Kramdens one night while they're asleep and turns the TV on to "Captain Video", then puts on that space helmet. Then Ralph walks out and sees him:lol:   In fact; every scene where Jackie Gleason does that "double take"

Hello

It is Mary Tyler Moore all the way......

1) Chuckles bites the dust.

2) Georgette gives birth (in Mary's apartment). Classic Ted Knight comedy performance.

3) Ted and Georgette's wedding. (at Mary's apartment with a young John Ritter performing the wedding)

4) Sue Ann Nivens and the wedding cake. (Murray was working for Sue Ann with a hilarious conclusion).

Who's the Boss?
In the episode "Sam's Car" when Tony buys Sam that HUGE yellow car with all of the red stop lights, and the scene where he shows it to her. That whole scene is hilarious

Also, in the episode of WTB "Requiem", when Angela and Tony are at Tony's dead father's house...

(Angela drops a barrel of ashes)
Angela: Oh my goodness! Tony, I'm so sorry
Tony: It's ok Angela
(Tony gets the vacuum and vacuums them up)
Angela: TONY, WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO THOSE?!
Tony: Angela this isnt my father, these are from the fireplace!

Fresh Prince of Bel-Air: Will dancing with the younger kids at his high school graduation, dressed as a sunflower.

Boy Meets World ("If You Can't Be With the One You Love"): A drunk Cory and Shawn pee on a police car.

Here is ones I can think of.

Dick Van Dyke the "It May Look Like a Walnut" episode. To me that whole episode was funny.
Cheers- When Cliff Clavin appeared on Jeopardy and answered the Final Jeopardy question with a funny answer. I think it was "three men that were never in my kitchen" or something like that. To me that was very funny.

The episode of Three's Company when Jack makes believe he has a twin brother from Texas. John Ritter plays the dual role and I have to tell you this is one of the most funniest scenes I've ever seen. Don Knotts is also in the scene where Jack goes back and forth playing his twin brother and he puts the cowboy hat on and then takes it off. :)

I also like the scene in The Honeymooners when The new latin neighbor moves in and Ralph gets absolutely jealous. All the ladies want to learn to dance with the new neighbor the Rumba. Even Mrs. Manicotti who throws the dishes all over the floor with her hips.

Also on the I love Lucy show when Lucy puts the loving cup on her head and Ethel takes her on the train and loses Lucy. Lucy wants to blend in with the commuters and makes believe she's reading a newspaper all the while the loving cup is stuck on her head.

That is a classic. Also when he gets "high" on those pills and he dances around like crazy at that society gathering with Janice and Barry Williams. That one gets me

Seinfeld: Where Elaine says "My ass is in their window" referring to the mannequin who resembles her. This whole episode is funny. George and his "swoosh" pants...Kramer kissing the mannequin...Jerry's reaction when he realizes his girlfriend's father DIDN'T WASH HIS HANDS after using the toilet!

Also, when Jerry wears those huge bifocals!!!!!!!!  and he gives the guy a $100 bill.

The final scene from "Newhart" is a huge moment in sitcom history.

The chocolate factory from "I Love Lucy."

The scene in "Will and Grace" where the foursome recant the story of Will's coming out (I think the episode is "Lows in the mid-80s")

The "Golden Girls" scene in "The Way We Met" where Rose tells the herring-circus story.

The walnut episode of "Dick Van Dyke."

"Chuckles Bites the Dust" from "The Mary Tyler Moore Show."

Any "Friends" Thanksgiving episode.

I know there are more (and some of these have probably already been mentioned), but it's just my two cents.

All in the Family (http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/forumdisplay.php?f=31) Season 2 episode #34 Sammy's Visit. Sammy Davis Jr. goes to the Bunkers' house to get his briefcase - leaving he asks to have his picture taken with his good friend Archie.

the scene in the "All in the Family" episode where Sammy Davis is visiting the Bunkers, and when Archie's talking to him, at one point he says something like "I wonder why God put youse people in Africa and all da rest of us in all da white countrys".

Also the last scene in that episode where he turns and kisses Archie:lol:

(that scene got the longest laugh in the history of the show. It went on so long that, after they taped the episode; they had to cut some of it-the laugh- out)

There are so many hilarious ecenes in All In The Family. My favorite is the scene where Edith is trying to explain how she and Katharine Hepburn have the same blood. A typical "Edith" moment!
Another Edith moment is when she tells Archie how she dented someone's car with a can of cling peaches(in heavy syrup)

Seinfeld- The scene from 'The Marine Biologist', when George and his girlfriend are on the beach and then a crowd of people show up and find a beached whale and scream, "Is anyone in here a marine biologist?" George, completely thrown off, just walks in there. Then, he's discussing it to Jerry, Elaine, and Kramer, with this big monologue and then he talks about what was found in the whale, and he pulls out the golf-ball that Kramer was golfing with on the same beach. Kramer, shocked, asks, "Is that a Titleist?" George nods and Kramer says, "A hole in one." That moment was just classic.
