As I mentioned to some people, my brother, who is 16 and autistic (Aspergers Syndrome), was recently diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy. I just don't understand. My brother went to a specialist and he's convinced he doesn't have it. They ran a special blood test on him (I think this is right, but don't quote me on it) and I think if they level is over 7, the person has MD. My brother's level was 15. The doctor is like, no let's do it again. My brother is petrified of needles, so he was terrible during the test. And they want to do another EMG on him, which they put needles in his back to see the nerves or something. I just don't understand, if they level proved he has it, why is he trying to make him "not" have it?? Is this even right?? My brother is going through a lot and I'm trying to help him but being autistic makes it worse, since he doesn't like ppl touching or talking to him. And now because of the MD, he has scoliosis and the back brace didn't work so he has to have surgery. If all this is from MD, why is he saying he doesn't have it? This a$$hole is a specialist?? Anyone know what to do?? My mother's about had it, she's ready to break and I don't know how to help.:(

:( That's awful. Poor guy. Can your mom take him to another doctor for a second or third opinion? I'm sorry to hear that your brother and whole family are having to go through that. I'll definitely keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. Some people should NOT be doctors.

Well, it sounds like to me the doctor is just trying to do every test possible to make 100% sure he does or doesn't. Sounds excessive and frustrating, but it makes sense.
But like Katie said, if you don't like the doctor, go to a different one. That's always your option.

Aw. that's so sad. I'll be praying for him! I know how it feels though. My blood sugar was 200 this morning and it took an hour (no joke) to get any blood to come up and it hurt this time. But then my mom was astonished and made me do it again >_<

I'm sorry Kelly! :( I will pray for your brother and your family. Maybe your family could try another doctor just to get another opinion. You never know.

It's probably a good thing that he's doing it again. I know it's probably scarey for your brother, but he'll get through it... the tests are necessary, and it's always good to be for sure. I've been through alot of tests and needles... its hard, but he'll get through the tests. It's better to have answers or have possibilities eliminated.
And yes, if you don't like the doctor or the way he is running things, just switch doctors and get a second opinion. ;)

I am really shocked to hear this Kelly.
My late brother suffered for over fifteen years of Muscular Sclerosis. He eventually passed away in 2004. The hardest part was not knowing what would occur next; what infections he would be dealing with; it was harder though dealing with the fact that doctors can only do so much. I wish you and your family wasn't going thru this at all. I wish no one had to deal with any debilitating illnesses. I pray for you and your family that each day you will be comforted by God's Hands and knowing that He is there for you. As well as I. I am here for you and extend my thoughts and prayers to you.

Thanks everyone! Irene I'm so sorry to hear about your brother, but thank you for those kind words!
Well we just got my brothers blood work done for a second time and we talked to the doctor about the results and he said "the levels are the same, this can't be right, we need to do it again." It's getting ridiculous. My brother being autistic is petrified of needles, and all to have the labs come back the same AGAIN?
