My dvd recorder remote broke and was wondering where I can get a new one for it? Can you use your universal remote for the tv one/dvd one?

No way a universal will control all you need for a dvd recorder. There is a guy on Ebay called Remote Empire that has everything, as well as a few others I'm sure. Mine is 60 bucks on there.
At best buy they can order them as well, maybe even on their own website. I got a dvd recorder one (good tough remote) for 35 dollars through them.
What exactly is wrong with the remote you have, and what remote is it?
You could also purchase a new/used unit, the same one you already have. Then you will have one remote which can control both.

Sorry, just woke up. A universal remote won't have the functions of the tailored dvd recorder remote. It might be able to play a dvd, but I highly doubt it would even record. And even if it did, I doubt the record speeds would be able to be changed, and certainly there would be no way to get to the disc managment/tools type features to make a menu or even finalize.
Some units may have push buttons on the unit itself I guess.

(RCA Universal)
I could be wrong, but buttons like menu/prog etc won't be recepted from a universal as they would from the correct model.
