Towards the end of the topic, poster were talking about the worst covers ( most notable would be "Satisfaction" by Britney Spears. ugh...).
Anyway, I was wondering about everyone's FAVORITE cover song, or the best, etc.

Personally, a good I've heard recently is a retake of Duran Duran's "Ordinary World" by Fenix TX. It's actually really good. Just think, Duran Duran turned punk... Everyone should check it out using their ever-friendly Napster substitutes.

My favorite "popular" cover is probably Billy Idol's "Mony Mony". I swear, every time I go to a wedding reception, they play this song, and everyone goes wild. I know there's others, but maybe you guys can rejog my memory by posting your favorites.

Well, I do like Aerosmith's cover of "Come Together", and also their covers of "Rockin Pneumonia and The Boogie Woogie Flu" and "Big Ten Inch Record" but I am a rabid Aerosmith fan so of course I am probably admittedly biased.

I also do actually enjoy Smashmouth's cover of "I'm a Believer".

I also like Metallica's cover of the Misfits' "Die Die My Darling". Also Guns N' Roses version of "Live and Let Die".

By far I think the band with the largest number of excellent cover songs I can think of is probably Erasure. They have done many excellent covers, such as Blondie's "Heart of Glass" and "Rapture". (I actually think Erasure's version of "Rapture" is better.) They also released a 4 song CD of nothing but ABBA covers, all of which were excellent ("You Can Count on Me", "S.O.S", "Voulez-Vous", and "Lay All Your Love on Me"). They also did an incredibly charming take on Burt Bacharach's "Magic Moments". They also covered Deep Purple's "River Deep Mountain High". (Of course I am also an Erasure fan, so again, I'm biased. Has anyone else even ever heard of them?)

(By the way, for the MTV crowd: some NY band called Wheatus has a single out called "A Little Respect". This is a cover of an Erasure song. It's actually not too bad from what I heard of it, but still...y'all need to know that they didn't write it!) http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif

I like Michael Damian's cover of David Essex's "Rock On". But I think one of the best has to be "Because The Night" by 10,000 Maniacs. Patti Smith sings it good as does Bruce Springsteen, but I like Natalie Merchant singing it.

Joe Cocker's cover of "With a Little Help From My Friends" is probably the best ever. It's better than the original.

That IS a great cover song. It's no easy feat to cover a classic Beatles tune.
Here are my favorite cover tunes:

I like Robbie Williams update on the Queen classic "We Are The Champions"

"You've got a Friend" by James Taylor. Carol King wrote/recorded this one on her masterpiece album "Tapestry". I've heard both, but I like the Taylor version better.
"So Far Away" by Rod Stewart. This one was also on "Tapestry". A great update on another Carol King classic.
As long as I'm mentioning Rod Stewart, I'll admit that I love his version of Elton John's "Your Song".
"(You make me feel like) A Natural Woman" was recorded by the one and only Aretha Franklin. This was another Carol King song.
"Shameless" by Garth Brooks. Yes, this is a country tune, but the original was recorded by Billy Joel, I like Garth's rockin' version better.
Finally, I'd also like to mention that I heard the Smashmouth version of the Monkees "I'm a Believer" recently, and I like it a lot.

Ha! That's funny you mentioned "Live and Let Die". Because a couple friends and I wereblasting the G and R version coming home from "Jurrasic Park III" last night. I hadn't heard it in a long time...

I know Erasure! Didn't one of the guys from Depeche Mode form Erasure? ( Depeche Mode happen to be another one of my favorite bands...) Anyway, I know "A Little Respect". I didn't even know Wheatus had covered it until you said so. It probably isn't good, is it?

Yeah, Vince Clarke used to be in Depeche Mode before he formed Erasure. As for the Wheatus version, I have only seen like half of the music video, from across the room at the gym, while I was on a treadmill. Hence I could not see or hear it very well at all. It did not sound too terrible to me, but then I need to hear it better before I make a final judgement.

A couple good ones that I can think of are: Steve Stevens (ex Billy Idol guitarist) doing Stevie Ray Vaughan's "Cold Shot", Robbie Krieger of the Doors doing The Pretenders "Tattooed Love Boys", and last but not least Dweezil Zappa and John Tesh doing Black Sabbath's "The Wizard".

Let me see, I enjoy Smashmouth's "I'm a Believer." Joe Cocker's version of "With a Little Help From Your Friends" is also good, but that has been mentioned already. A word of advice though, if this song is chosen as your class song for you Senior Honor's Program, for practice bring in the Beatles's version and not the Joe Cocker version. Especially NOT the one from Woodstock. Bad, bad experience there.

Here's a new one. I like the Rolling Stone's version of "Like a Rolling Stone" that was originally done by Bob Dylan. It's on the Stripped album and Mick says a nice "Thank you Bob" at the end.

When a friend of mine was a senior, her class voted for their class song to be "With A Little Help From My Friends" by the Beatles. However, the school would not even let them use that version and made them vote again. How stupid is that?
