does that mean GOOD in Canada?
Afraid not, it means bad, or in this case, uncool, just like in the US.

I believe the point is this:
Padre made the set. He just announced it yesterday on this board. Show some respect and give the guy who put in the effort to create the set a chance to get what he can with it. If you have an outside circle of contacts, go ahead, but don't advertise a set you didn't make 24 hours after the creator does to the same group of people and try to take away his action.

I gotta say that would frustrate me Lamont.

I would think if you get in a "rare" set from someone, that took him hours upon hours to do- and might net him trades-
Posting the day after his post saying you haev the same thing- removes part of the rareness immediately-
and nulls some of his effort immediately.

When i get a new rare item in- I wait a bit before using it- to give the persons effort some time to fruate.

I don't mean to pick a fight- but it seems a little uncooth.

smack me in the face
i didnt even think about it before i spoke

(we hillbillies do that sometime)

yes its a great set and yes padre hooked me up with it

i edited it off the new post

so any folks who are interested in it--- do this for old lamont, check with Padre first and see if you can work out a trade with him, if you can GREAT! get it from him

if you do not have anything he wants and you cannot work it out, THEN come to me and see what we can do

i honestly didnt even think about it or i wouldnt have done so

thanks!

Just wanted to ask you why do you advertise SHOWS from a trader on THIS SITE-lol I always thought when you said you got something in New that it was from a trader from another board

No disrespect to Lamont or anyone else but thats why I don't trade with some people certain sets. You should know the moment you trade it, it will be listed on here. One trader I traded with would only trade with me if I didn't list it on here for 2 weeks. I normally don't run ads on here anyway so that was not a problem.

A set that someone on here does not have can yield you many trades as long as you set up the trades wisely, at least for the first 2-3 weeks.

Lamont

most sets that traders get that you see on their lists come from OTHER TRADERS On this board

FOR INSTANCE i got several sets in last week that i posted last week that i had--- most of them came from 2 members of this board--- who do NOT generally do much trading, they are very selective in what they want and do a handful of trades

so I post when i get new stuff-- b/c its new to me and people can get it from me easier sometimes, and sometimes the guy i get it from, doesnt want to deal with the masses and the average trader

OTHER TIMES, i get stuff in from people who do trade-- BUT who cannot handle large trades

FOR INSTANCE i got a big 40+ disc set awhile back from a trader who trades pretty often, BUT they do not do big trades

OTHER TIMES, certain trades MIGHT NOT want to deal with someone else--- they may not get along with TRADER X, or might not have anything TRADER X wants in return, so they will deal with me instead

IT GOES BOTH WAYS--- some people do NOT like to deal with lamont, and so they wait til they see Loren, or Joker or someone has the set and they deal with them

DONT GET ME WRONG i have many contacts off this board, who i do a lot of trading with, BUT i still do about 60% of my trades through this site!

AGAIN, i shouldnt have posted that 1 item i did-- and i wont make that boo boo again

BY THE WAY---- isnt it your Birthday today, TVRESEARCHER??????

dont worry at all, i was wrong and i fixed it

i ALSO get some sets in like that, that have a 30 day hold on them or such, i got some goodies in now that i wont announce til mid july! and i try to respect others in that regard also, in fact I have a few goodies that will NEVER be on my list, b/c that was the deal made before hand and im cool with that too!

I have to admit I've been a bit more careful about listing some of the really unique stuff in my collection because I've had stuff I've put together get announced by others so quickly. I did a trade with one person for the brand new set I had of Goodnight Beantown. I never even had the opportunity to announce that I had it - the set was made specifically for me, so it originated from me - before the person I traded it to traded it to Lamont, and he announced it to the board. In that case, I doubt Lamont even knew the set came from me, so definitely not hard feelings to him, but the next time that person around came around asking for something I was working on, that no one else has listed, I turned her down flat and I'm reluctant to trade with her again. The speed at which Goodnight Beantown showed up on Lamont's list, she had to have set up a trade before she even got the discs from me.

I didn't used to care so much, but some of these sets I'm putting together have taken a lot of time, effort, and money to collect a complete set of episodes, and yeah, it's nice to be able to get some benefit back from that. So, when I started getting a lot of pilots in - pilots I pay to have duplicated from a friend in the business - I figured I'd follow Lamont's example and announce 'em - first time I tried that, glad I did.

I didn't know it was something I could ask, though, that someone not trade a set they get from me for a specified period of time. That's cool - I will try that the next set I put together from converted recordings.

lazygrae

You said it. Those who don't make sets, or who only make sets from things they record off tv, have no idea what it can cost or the work involved to put together a complete set of a rare show. From the time put in just locating the episodes, to buying episodes off dealers, to buying film prints and paying to get it converted to video, the cost can easily grow into the hundreds, and sometimes thousands of dollars. That value decreases rapidly: to everyone but the person who created the set, each disc is worth only $.20 and 15 minutes of their time. Except of course for those people who, instead of trading for it, buy it from dealers who whore out the set for $3-5/disc.

Lamont
06-23-2006, 09:42 AM
i know what u mean and i have come to see both sides of the issues

FOR EXAMPLE--- old lamont did a 29 disc set last year, ALL VHS TRANSFERS from 3 sources, a big pain to do in real time w/ taking commercials out, spent wayyyy too long on it--- and BEFORE I HAD even sent 1 set out in the mail
THE SAME Set was up on ebay and ioffer from 3 different sellers!!! AND NOT 1 of the 3 had it in hand yet--- I WAS TEMPTED to NOT send to any of them and leave them hanging--- BUT i didnt

AT THE SAME TIME, i do realize that even if its my work to do up the set, i dont own it and EVENTUALLY it will be out there-- so i try to keep things in perspective

it can be frustrating to see a set u spent time on go to the bargain bin so cheap--- BUT that is just part of trading--- so i have learned some people are best not to deal with and some people are best to ASK FIRST--- and sometimes i get a set with a 30 day hold, etc, etc, etc

as for PADRE-- he is one of the best around, and i emailed him to apologize and all

but yes, i know what u mean!

padre

Lamont and I are fine, we've been trading buddies for quite a while - when I saw it, I knew he'd figure out his mistake (but thanks folks for pointing it out to him. They're a little slow in the south! ;)

I know full well that given mere days/weeks the set I worked so hard on, will be up on Ioffer, with the seller(s) making it appear that they did the work. But that's the risk you run when you trade. In a way, it makes you proud that your set is that good that folks want it badly! And, of course, the other side is seeing the profits they reap based on something you created - that part makes you want to keep all your sets to yourself. Makes you crazy - but I don't need much help there...

Hey, Lamont, I just finished baking some cookies - wanna sell them on my sidewalk? lol! You know you owe me BIG now!

2. 99% of most traders MIGHT NOT BE SPECIFICALLY looking for a certain show--- BUT when they see MEN INTO SPACE-- just in, it JOGS their memory about the show and they realize theyd like to get it, so they do

3. 99% of most traders CHECK THE LISTS AND CHECK THE "NEW IN" POSTS--- BEFORE they post that they want something--- FOR INSTANCE i want HOUSE CALLS and i posted it yesterday, BUT before I did so, i checked the House Calls page and then I checked the recent NEW IN posts and then i posted AFTER i couldnt find it

I will make this real clear and be a gentleman about it. If you don't understand it, well, that's how it goes. This is a trading board, people trade. Just like a retailer advertises his wares both on a window, in the papers and in the yellow pages, a trader does the same thing here. When one gets a new set and wants to trade he announces "that I have so and so". He doesn't know who if any desire it but annnounces it. Sometimes he gets a response, sometimes not but he lets his market know of his latest. That's the American way, it may not Be solomon's way but it is the American way. When Macy wants to push a item they advertise it, everyone does it, not just here but the WORLD. Maybe in your corner of the universe this method of promoting a product is silly, so be it.

Lesson over

Funny that you mention picket fences i just read about it in a 1992 TV Guide Fall Preview. It said the weakpoint was-"sometimes it goes too far, a has-been sister act plays the town bar and ends up in three-way sex with an old coot, and the show finds new ways to die that even LA Law wouldn't believe."

Solomon, why not the reverse? No want ads at all. Is there any particular reason why you think it should be "wants" only, as opposed to "haves" only?

Announcements of brand-new-never-seen-before sets are great! That's what I'm here for. I am not fond of the "New" posts that prompt you to go inside and when you do, all you see is a list of stuff that's already been around the block, and is just "new" to the poster.

Just curious, after you write something, and before hitting the send button, do you reread to see if it makes sense.?

If I have something new, I shouldn't offer it to the group unless I say what I'm looking for? I just hope TJ doesn't make as a requirement to be a member of this board, a field sobriety test.

Let's just stop right here everybody.

Solomon is once again just saying something that nobody else will agree with to increase his hit count and to get another ruckus going. Last time it took 4 threads, a gazillion posts and input from the owner of the board before it ended.

You're not going to change his mind because it isn't how he actually feels anyway (http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?t=175779). It's a trap. Don't fall for it.

I'm not sure what your driving at. Are you saying Solomon talks out of both sides of his mouth? Says one thing, means another and changes it again. Can't believe you mean that. He seems straight forward to me and just blessed with common sense. Yea, and I also believe in the tooth fairy and in little green elves.

I posted that because I'm looking for other original airings from the 90's. Remember I'm not a distributor

Love the way you modify everything you say.

Here is your earlier post.

Where does it say if I'm not a distributor? You say so many things that make no sense, contradict each other, it's no wonder you have no idea what you said. Obviously consistency is not your middle name.

I am skeptical of where this might lead- so let me just say- tread carefully

And Tvresearcher, understand that there have been many a thread- where your conversations and discussions were for some reason hijacked with others speaking for you.

With 30,000 + posts I can assume you can communicate should you feel the stress or pressure of the other members-
So if there is any uneasiness in future posts, May I assume you will take up any problems with me directly?
Otherwise read some previous posts lately- and please don't open up any discussions that might incline them to do so for you. I have had quite enough of that.

If you open up, or engage in a heated argument I full expect you to either speak up when it becomes too much, in your own behalf.
Or leave the conversation for the others behalf.

Nothing more, nothing less.

Charleston chews were really good. Dentists loved them. 2 of them in a pack gave 3,890 cavities. You followed that up with a piece of rock candy and you were on soup for the next few years.

Okay, I never thought I'd see myself typing something remotely like this ... but I think I understand what Solomon's saying. Either that, or the trauma of my car accident last week is still haunting me. I can't be sure.

Anyway, I personally like it when people post their lists of "just in" or "new" or "my haves" and include a link or a list of stuff they're looking for. Lamont includes a link to his site, and if you go to the site, there's a want list. It may not be easy to find stuff on his want list, but he's still taken the time to put it together and it's easy to find. Lamont's posts make it clear that he's willing to consider stuff in trade, so I don't see how that somehow changes him from a trader to a "distributor" (assuming that a distributor is a negative thing).

Similarly, it's especially nice when people put up their want lists to include a link to their have lists. I see lots of posts from people who are looking for things I have, but no indication if they have anything I'd want. And I'm not keen to approach someone if I don't have a reasonable idea that we could do a trade, since I won't take blanks, I don't want stuff I don't need, and I won't sell.

So I guess the moral to that story, children, is provide useful information when posting lists.

When I first joined this group 2 years ago and was asked "why do you want to join". My reply was "to get close to Deb Walsh" For two years I bided my time and just today felt this was my chance. Now Deb says "she won't fly with me"

I'm responding to this thread while on a stretcher at Booth Memorial hospital. Their moving me to ICU. Said I had a minor heart attack. Doc's wanted to know if I had a shock or anything. I showed him Savage's email and the head resident is now on a stretcher next to me. If I don't make it, I'm leaving all my programs with commercials to Solomon. Ha Ha Ha, I have none with commercials, he gets squat. To Lamont I leave everything that I own that's useless. We all know Lamont takes anything. To Brian, I leave my clock that never stops ticking ,and is as loud as hell. Hope he gets a major headache. Of course to Savage I leave all my love.

I think everyone is jealous. I sent Savage a picture of myself in my skimpy loin cloth, swinging from a banana tree and Savage melted like butter. Something about the strong silent type. I asked her straight out "is it me or my dvds" Her reply was "what's a dvd. I started singing "happy days are here again"

When we reach Tahiti, yes, we will send some pictures. don't know how they will reproduce with all that steam on them.

how tvresearcher posts things on these threads-- that really have nothing to do with the thread? but yet totally change the direction and tone?

when i post NEW THINGS IN, people USUALLY post with a question about the set, or a comment on the show itself--- something that makes sense, such as "ARE THE CREDITS COMPLETE?" or " I LOVED THAT SITCOM!"

yet Tvresearcher, who doesnt think i should post new stuff at all, and wishes i wouldnt, feels the need to STILL read each one of my posts--- that he doesnt enjoy reading, and then comment how i shouldnt post them?

is there any reason at all for that comment? wouldnt a wise man, simply NOT READ something if it didnt interest him? as opposed to reading it, simply to complain?

now we aint too bright down south, but it seems to me as if the ONLY PURPOSE of this comment at all, was simply because he knew that people would ALL DISAGREE WITH HIM, which they did, and perhaps try to rile people up and cause controversy and unpleasantness????

i certainly hope not, as several times this week, TJ and the moderators have asked us to use better judgement in situations like this

BUT, who knows the inner workings of some peoples thoughts!

Please don't look for any posts from Savage till later today. She just doesn't have any strength in her to do anything. I picked her up late last night and we went to a real secluded spot on the beach. She took one look and wondered why they rave about the hanging gardens of Babylon.
'This is the ninth wonder of the world", was her words. She never expected to reach heaven at such a early age was how she felt. Anyway it's hard for her to move so if you have any important questions, ones that invlolve thinking, smarts, intelligence, basically a mensa type individual, Lamont will be available. You might be better off seeing the Terminex guy. For myself, I never felt stronger, but then again I'm a stud muffin.
