Well I received the August 1, 1979 TV guide and there was no HYPE about the

Final Episode of Good Times. It was treated like a Regular episode without any Advertisements about the episode. The only thing you saw was at the bottom of the episode description which was

"Last Show of the Series and will be replace by Hanging In next week"

From what I can remember about the 70s, final episodes of shows weren't played up the way they are now- especially a show that had dropped in the ratings to the point that the network took it off for a while and left several episodes unaired. I think Mary Tyler Moore's last episode was one of the only sitcom final episodes up to that time to get any kind of real fanfare.

The producers were collaborating with PBS to give Bernadette Stanis her own spinoff show. Keith would be on the road playing football while Florida took care of the baby so Thelma could concentrate on her new fictional show "Pennywise" in which Thelma's character would teach children how to count up money and be wise with their pennies. :lol: The only thing is that the Florida, Keith and Thelma scenes were edited out and the Penny scenes remained.

I guess they had a bump it attitude towards the show with the increased production problems and ratings decline. When it went on hiatus in Jan 79, people knew it was over then. Not to mention that CBS left several episodes unaired during the original summer run to wrap up season 6.

Odd Couple had a final show in which Felix and his ex-wife remarry. I don't know if it got any special attention though (I don't think it did since Odd Couple had low ratings). Maude's last show wasn't supposed to be the finale from what I've heard. Bea Arthur decided against doing another season. I don't think season finales were really a big issue until MASH.

Not surprising, since the show had been yanked in January and then CBS finished it off in the summer.
