This is weird. They were slated to release the third season quite a while ago and instead they copped out by releasing a 4 episode DVD called "Time Travellers." What happened anyway? I'm starting to lose hope.

I'm almost done watching MFM for the first time in my life.

I found that towards the end of the 2nd season and into the 3rd season, a lot of the episodes weren't as good. There were some really silly plots in season 3. I'm thinking that whoever it is that makes these DVD's is hesitant, thinking it won't sell like the first 2. I probably won't buy season 3; but would the first 2.

According to a news item on the tvshowsondvd website, My Favorite Martian's Season 3 IS being considered for release, and it will include a bonus disc.

Around 1985-1986, one of the TV stations where I was living at the time used to run "My Favorite Martian" at 5:30 on Sunday mornings (these were the sped-up "lexicon" versions for syndication).

And, yep, I used to set my alarm for 5:25 AM (on my day off!) so I could wake up to watch/tape those episodes.

I'll be happy when the third (color) season comes out so I can finally recycle those tapes.

RHINO home video has still not issued a date for the release of season 3, probably because they are putting together the material for the bonus disc, which supposedly includes the unaired pilot, cast commercials for Kellogg's, and behind the scenes footage.

Its coming out sometime after October. Read here for lots more news on the "bonus features" and the possibility of the cartoon "My Favorite Martians" being released. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?t=177816

Here is this word so far, they are really not sure when or if it will get a release
our friends at Rhino are to say the least a little sheepish on the whole issue.
For my part the extras are just mounting up, another feature I hope to add is a clickable photo gallery for each segment.

Well I hope something can be worked out. I'm really looking forward to all these bonus features and the 3rd season. with some very great episodes.

In the many talks with Rhino..they are still on board...in fact they have stated that when this release is out, it will be a first for them based on the number of extras to be added.
I have searched the planet to find so much material it will put other sets to shame..really.

Found a link that lists the release date as November 5:
http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/796193

Even though it appears as though it will have to ordered through Austrailian sites the bottom of the page says that is compatable with all 6 Regions! I, personally live in the US so this is good news for us region 1 people in the US and Canada. Unfortunatly the price is very high and comes out to $57.10 US.

I thought that this was just suppose to be a Bonus DVD with extras like that Munsters First Family Of Fright DVD that was released last year?
I go to the site & see that this is the third season?
What in Martian Hell??
Is this some sort of joke??? I thought Rhino had the rights to release the remaining third season? What's going on here??

Is this DVD really legit? They made a mistake on the top of the DVD. It says "the third series" instead of the third season.
If this is the third season, does it come with EXTRAS?
And will it really work in American playeres??
Can anyone let us know???

Apparently Rhino is unable to release the third season. Yes the DVD is legit, it is being released in Australia under the Umbrella Entertainment company. The reason it says 'series' is because in other parts of the world what we refer to as a 'season' is refered to as a 'series'. Yes it will come with extras and it is region free which means it will play in ANY player.

At this point it looks like Rhino will not release the third season, they had not so great sales on the second season..hence they are not to thrilled with the title.
And yes the Umbrella release is 100% legit, it just is meant for another market (Australia & New Zealand).

But don't let that stop you..this is a brilliant release with many first time seen elements.

Thanks so much for your replies. I will be buying this DVD & look forward to all the extras on it! Ray Walston & Bill Bixby were the best & are truly missed everyday! Although they never reunited for an offical MFM reunion, I am glad that at least they reunited for an Incredible Hulk Episode and to me that is just as good as any MFM reunion. For those who have never seen it, check it out! Also I really am glad that Ray Walston was able to appear in the MFM Motion Picture and finally go home!

That's a silly reason on those people's part...season 3 was it. Limit release it and finish the project. Holding the last season is just not logical.

Don't forget the US dollar is stronger against the aussie one, and when you get this set the "Price" is not going to worry.

The extras are fantastic...and full of new material to make all true fans of this show crazy with joy.

C'mon guys i buy heaps from the US and the price is pretty high when converted to Aussie. I know that price is pricey, but you should see how much we get slugged buying Get Smart on Time Life for Australian version.

I find it strange when buying on ebay,The shipping with some people is a joke they seem to make it up as it doesn't match the stamp.

It's cheaper here

Ok, so from umbrella's site, I could buy this for $73.45. At amazon, I could buy all the episodes from Amazon Unbox for $63.68, minus the extras. So if I buy this set, it would basically just be for extras.

So to anyone who's seen the set, tell me what the extras are like in as much detail as you want to give me. They sound cool, but I've had other sets with cool sounding extras that turned out to be kind of disappointing. So I need convincing that I should spend the extra almost $10.

Wow...that's only $48.17 USD. Plus $17 shipping makes the set there $65.17 or so.

There is a wonderful version of the unaired pilot which features extra scenes and alternate dialogue not included in the telecast pilot.

The color home movies portion runs about 15 minutes of footage (no sound, though) taken backstage with the cast on the MGM lot and on the apartment set. We get to see them improvise a little scene for test footage of the new color set and we see them relaxing for the camera on the outdoor set of Go West as well as watch the shooting of a scene. A narrative is provided for the home movie footage and there is a nice running commentary by the art director with the 1st episode of that season:"Go-West.."

Former child actor Wayne Stam offers a delightful account of his time working on an episode and the other interviews with staff members center around the technical aspects of putting the show together. They do touch on the good times they had working with Ray Walston and Bill Bixby, Pamela Britton and Alan Hewitt.

The acrobat files work on computers with dvd capability and have the British comic strip version of the series along with Kellogg’s commericals documents and scripts.

Hope that helps.

The umbrella site's grand total is really the same since their shipping is lower ($8)
There are several on EBAY too from Australia, but have higher shipping prices and therefore larger grand total.

Kelloggs commercial scripts....ok. I read that and I thought Kelloggs scripts?

There were commercials filmed by the cast that added to some episodes. I remember one at the end of the 2 part season 3 premiere that featured an indian who had traveled forward in time with Tim and Martin and in the commercial all three of them were eating Kellogg's cereal in the kitchen of the apartment. I don't think these specially filmed commercials in character were ever shown again beyond the original broadcasts.

Was the commercial footage itself found and included on the DVDs too?

How is the quality of the episodes on the new S3 DVD set? Is it remastered high quality compared to syndicated TV quality like as shown recently on the American Life cable TV channel?

To be honest, I've not yet seen this feature, since my old computer does not have a dvd-drive so I can't access the adobe acrobat files. It is my understanding that the documents include some scripts from the short cast commercials, not the entire episodes.

As far as having the actual footage of some cast commercials, no. They are still in the process of locating those films to be included in future dvd releases.

In terms of the episode quality, the sound is excellent and I believe that they did a new digital transfer from broadcast Digi betas - fine grain negative masters.

There is also a still gallery that has photos from some 3rd season episodes (Butterball, and the one with Andromeda) as well as the 1st season's How to Be a Hero and Uncle Martin's Wisdom Tooth

I saw that. As high as $22 AUD. So either the ebay are robbing people blind, or the umbrella shipment takes forever to get here.

Actually, Umbrella shipped fairly fast. I have no complaints regarding shipping speed, meaning the time for Umbrella to get it in the mails or the time for it to actually arrive here in Massachusetts, USA from Australia.

I'm really not sure what is happening with this Rhino release, but best you be aware it will be VERY vanilla.
No unaired pilot no cast and crew interviews no TV21 page scans..just a bare bones release.

Alot of time and care went into the Umbrella release..at two bucks a show it's more than worth it.

Dont' worry, I completely agree and will be looking to buy the import over this supposed rhino reelase anyways. BTW, I can't remember, was the Australian company looking to release seasons 1 and 2 with extras at some point?

....Kellogg's primarily sponsored the series during its three year run on CBS {The Toni Company was the "alternate sponsor" during the first two}- this meant the cast usually appeared in "integrated" commercials for Kellogg's cereals at the end of the episodes sponsored by them- sometimes, these spots were directly tied in with the plot of the episode that had just ended; say, the end of part two of "Go West, Young Martian" {TIM: (pointing to Indian) "Well, Uncle Martin, what are we going to do with HIM?"/MARTIN: "Let's have breakfast, Tim- I feel like having a bowl of Kellogg's Corn Flakes.."/TIM: "Maybe we should ask him if HE wants some?"/MARTIN: 'Why not? Corn is a staple of most indians' diets- I'm sure he'd enjoy it as much as we do."/[as they all sit at the breakfast table enjoying bowls of Corn Flakes] TIM: "Well, this may not solve our problem, Uncle Martin....but it's nice having someone else share our Corn Flakes..."/INDIAN: "How?"/MARTIN: "With cream and sugar, obviously."/OFF-CAMERA CHORUS: "Kellogg's, Best To You!"}. I haven't seen that particular "plug", but that's sort of how those commercials went....when the series went into syndication, these ads, along with the sponsor I.D.s and the parade of Kellogg's cereals appearing in the left-hand corner of the closing credits, disappeared [the drawing of Ray Walston with raised antennae replaced the sponsor's product in the closing credits in syndication].

I recently saw a syndicated airing of a Father Knows Best episode, it must have been an original print because the closing credits had the sponsors products displayed in the corner of the screen. I was surprised to see that.

....to see a print with the original closing credits featuring the sponsor's product, in syndication- in "FATHER KNOWS BEST"'s case, it was probably Scott Paper Company {Scotttowels, Scotkins, etc.} or Lever Brothers {All, etc.}- they became the series' "alternate sponsor" in 1958, as Scott had been the sole sponsor from the fall of 1955 onwards [Lorillard Tobacco's Kent cigarettes was the first season sponsor, in 1954-'55]. I've NEVER seen any closing credits of "MY FAVORITE MARTIAN" in syndication with Kellogg's or Toni's products featured in them....

I made a post yesterday to the "My Three Sons" board about seeing another sitcom sponsored by Kellogg's w/ the products appearing in the free space around the credits:

http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?t=221452

I have seen this w/ 2 different "My Three Sons" eps so far, but it was possibly just a mistake in syndication not to have removed the product pictures.
