The original Star Trek series was cool, but the others stunk. The original Star Wars was like going through hell, but the other 2 were good.

Are you talking about Star Wars: A New Hope?
You are actually saying that the CLASSIC original film was "like going through hell"? Oh my, that's like saying "The Godfather" films were horrible. I don't believe it...

Pshaw! I think I like the Original Series second least. Don't get me wrong, I do like it....personally I think Deep Stink 9 is the worst. But that's because it has a very intricate and involved storyline that spans the whole series, as opposed to stand-alone episodes, like all the other series. So since I didn't watch DS9 from the very beginning, I don't get what's going on alot of the time. I do love Worf tho, and Jadzia.
I am going to go down on the record now as saying that I whole-heartedly believe that Paramount is going to destroy Star Trek. They are running it into the ground, and subjecting it to shameful ratings grabbings ploys in an effort to keep their pathetic UPN network afloat.
I really don't think we need another ST series next fall since Voyager and DS9 just ended, and there is a movie out next summer. I think they need to put it to sleep for awhile so all us rabid ST addicts will be chomping at the bit when a new series comes out. That's how they can get more ratings.
Ya know I read an article where some lady in England did a study that said that ST fans are like heroin addicts, which I found very amusing. I suppose I could post it here if people are interested, it's not very long.
As for Star Wars, I don't think A New Hope was hell, but Empire Strikes Back is my fave. And I think Jar-Jar Binks is a sign that perhaps Star Wars is declining in quality too. I can stomach the ST ratings ploys, even if they are annoying, but mesa just wanna slapa Jar Jar!

Me too, me too. He is an utter disgrace to all things Star Wars. I'm questioning George Lucas, and his story telling methods now after seeing that debactacle known as Episode 1.

Star Wars all the way!!! I never got into Star Trek.
One of my best friends loves both and has a life-size cardboard cut-out of Picard that she puts in her dorm room. It's even funnier when she puts her MN Vikings purple felt hat with braids and horns on his head and you can't forget at Easter when she wrapped her pink Easter bunny garland around his neck. It was so funny I took a picture of it!

Does anyone remember The Star Wars Holiday Special from 1978, with Chewie's family? They always aired it around christmas time until about 6 years ago. Too goofy for Tv!

OK I'm sorry. It's just that I can't understand people that don't like Trek. I should have been more understanding.

Ah but how to rate the Star Trek movies.
I haven't even seen them all. But everyone tells me the odd numbered ones suck. Hence I've seen 2, 4, 7, 8, 9 and parts of 6.
Of the ones I've seen this is my order, 1 best 5 worst (I'm not including 6 since I haven't seen all of it)
1.) The Voyage Home
2.) First Contact
3.) Wrath of Khan
4.) Generations
5.) Insurrection

"My God! It's nothing but carrots and peyote!"

I love Star Wars. I buy the Star Wars Insider, but my interest in Star Wars has declined, but I think it will pick up in May 2002 (Episode II).
I hate Star Trek, but my mother loved the original. (She watched it in German.)
It is nice seeing new Star Wars figures. I used to get them when I was 9 (1999), but now they lay in a bunch of containers. THe last time I bought one was in Nov. 2000, because it looks so darn kool. It was a K-3PO figure. (I love those droids)

STAR WARS, no question about it. In fact TBS had it on again last night and I watched it. It's a classic.
I never really got into the StarTrek thing, but I thought that Star Trek: The Next Generation was pretty good.
Favorite Star Wars films: Part IV: A New Hope, Return of of the Jedi
Least Favorite: Star Wars I: The Phantom Menace.
So-So: The Empire Strikes Back

Sean,
I used to have some of the original Star Wars figurines when I was a kid. I also got Luke Skywalker and Princess Lea dolls for my birthday back in 1979 or 1980. These werent the figurines, these were the a little bigger than the Barbie and Ken dolls.
Hang onto the toys and figurines that you have now because they will be worth a lot of money in 20 or so years. I only wish I'd saved my Star Wars collectables. I literally cry when I think of the fortune that they are worth today.

Okay, the Star Wars Movies in the order I like them.
1. All three of the classic Star Wars Movies:
A New Hope (1977)
The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
Return of the Jedi
2. The Phantom Menace (Jar Jar Yuck!)
The best thing about the originals:
Carrie Fisher! http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I like both sci-fi sagas -- but I am *really* troubled by the depths of the commercialization. (No, I'm not talking about action figures or comic books... that's to be expected and enjoyed.) Phantom Menace played like one big commercial for products. It was all whiz-bang and short on depth.
I got sorta worried when I read an article during the film's production that said Lucas was going to digitally alter expressions on actors to improve his shots. Red flags went up then for me. (Like, "uh oh, maybe he's a little too taken with the gizmos. What about the story?!!")
The new Trek series -- which comes on the heels of seven years of Voyager, which comes on the heels of seven years of DS9, which comes on the heels of ... you see what I mean? -- anyway, it may be great, but things are beginning to feel a little forced. Paramount obviously wants to keep the little engine chugging along.
See, I love a good science fiction yarn. I dig far out situations and techno-talk and all that. But mostly -- I want good characters and great writing.
I don't care how many special effects they can throw at a screen. If the plot and characters stink -- I'm switchin' channels.
*ahem* Sorry 'bout that. Got a little carried away. <grin>

I agree, that IS disturbing! I had never heard that...very interesting. Thanks for posting that, I'm sure my friends will be interested in hearing that.
And I agree, Phantom Menace did kind of feel like one big commercial. I think you hit on the head for me why I wasn't overly thrilled with that movie. It was always like, I knew there was something I didn't like about it, but I couldn't exactly quite put my finger on it.

I'll tell you the story of it ina later post. I stopped updating it after it's 1st Anniversary.

The coolest piece of SW memorbilia I have is a 1978 Princess Leia soap bar. It's still in it's packaging, it's so cool. Odd, but cool.
When I was MAJORLY obsessed with Star Wars in the summer of 99', my dad's friend( who work as a tester at LucasArts) got us a tour of Skywalker Ranch. It's only about a half an hour drive from where I live in the Bay Area. I saw Obi-Wan's lightsaber up close, along with Threepio's hands, and the stones from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. God, was that cool... There's so much other stuff there, but I could go on forever...

I couldn't agree more with Devon King. That's why I didn't care for The Phantom Menace. It was all technology, and it lacked the heart & soul of the first three films in the Trillogy.
