America suffered greatly during the 30's and then the 40's. First was the "great depression" and then the war. To escape these horrors it's citizens turned to three mediums, that being radio, "the theater of the mind" where they could forget, the comics or "funnies" or the big screen, that's if you had some pennies to go or had a theater in your area.
The theater would provide 2 movies, one the a feature, the second the b, hence the name b flick, Pathe news , so you could see the faces of folks you heard about or read about a catoon and a chapter from a serial. Serial? A serial was 10,12 or 15 chapters long, each chapter lasting between 15 and 20 minutes and at the end of each the hero, his girl or his best buddy were doomed to a horrible death. Could be pushed of a cliff, burned in oil, shot, blown up etc. End of serial?, not exactly because if you came back to the same theater next week, you would find out about the escape. This lasted for 10,12 or 15 weeks with pure action as each chapter ended with a sure death. Most serials came from radio or the "comics" as they had name recognition. This serial created by Chester Gould has some of the most amazing characters in comic history. It then played on radio for many years in a 15 minute serial format and was turned into 4 serials. The only serial to have 3 sequels , with Flash Gordon having two. It was on the front pace of the Sunday news comics for over 30 years.
It's the Dick Tracy serials, starring Ralph Byrd in the lead. He looked exactly like Dick Tracy in the comics. Here on 2 dvds with menu and chapter breaks is Dick Tracy. All you need is popcorn
To acquire, real simple. I have a number from one to 500 that I have shared with Savageamusement, who will be home this friday on weekend pass from the state pen. From what I understand she is coming along real good, learning a trade. If any one needs a custom license plate for their car, she is the girl to contact. Now you know the honesty involved. Post your guess on the site and the closest guess between now and Sunday night at 7:00 wins.

11-02-2005, 10:46 PM
Breaking out the dragonbear computer lets see what Harvey's mind has
come up with a brain teaser for today.
At the time that these serials were develped there was 2 major
television ideas. Mutual Broadcasting Company and
National Broadcasting company
So the interesting thing is that NBC actually had to networks.
NBC red and NBC blue. And they competed with each other.
So during the 30's the FCC released that NBC Blue was supressing
for competition of NBC Red. This of course was questionable in
nature. So for 4 years there was discussion on this technology
of television and how it might be used.
So later on in our history lesson NBC Blue and NBC Red were ordered
to seperate by the FCC. The new network created
ABC, the American Broadcast Company. Who was owned by the
owner at the time of Lifesavers. Yeah, those little candys that
we love to suck.
So after compiling all the data in our dragonbear super computer
we came up with the number that equals to the letters in NBC
x the Letters in CBS plus the knowledge that NBC had 2
networks at the time.
our official guess.
332.
And thank you for your support :-)

Real interesting. The aim was to guess the number between 1-500 and of all the entries only one person picked a number between 400-500, that being tvintros, who picked 432. The winning number was 480, so we have a winner. If tvintros will email me at lilhave at aol dot com with their address, show of shows will go out in the morn.

This contest will run thru tuesday night with shipping on wednesday.
First the offering. Back in 1976 and then in 77 was a show called That's Hollywood. Believe it was monday night. Anway once a week was a half hour devoted to a certain aspect of Hollywood, one week was detective heroes, one was suspense, one was sci-fi, one was comic book heroes, one was romance, one was ghosts, one monsters etc. What was shown were film clips prior to the air date from that genre. Very entertaining.
Here are two dvds with 20 of these half hour shows, with menus and a real peek into the early days of the theater.
All you have to do is guess the number that I have in mind between 1-500 that I have shared with Savage, a young lady I deeply admire. Post your guess on the site and be the closest.

For some reason I feel Lamont is trying to slip a fast one over the inside. Years ago before electronics, horse betters in dealing with their bookies did what was called past posting. It as done in the movie the Sting. Next Lamont sent me some good guy testimonials from two ladies named Mailman and Beaty. Should I believe what they say?

ROFL!
Ya know, I selected my screen name at random one evening, not knowing I would kind of get stuck with it in the trading community (since one wants to ply upon one's hard earned reputation & not be changing names every few months.) Sometimes I think I selected something a bit too 'not me'. Then when I see Savage's...I think..I wish I had gone all out...totally out...(still wondering what 'all out' means to someone 23+ years married to a button down, preppy, Brooks Brothers type guy...)

OKay traders
Everytime one of you has said "I lost my marbles"
I have been collecting them
And the jar is full!!
Take a look at my personal picture-
(The one to the left here- under my spiffy name)
Don't let the small picture fool you- this is a 25 inch high, by 10 inch wide glass container.
Curious how many marbles are in it?
The answer will be revealed Wednesday at 8 PM Central Time.
Think you know how many are in it?
Well, if you supply the winning guess (or closest to it)
You will be the proud owner of a new 3 dvd set.
There are no MORE than 500 in this jar. And no LESS than ONE hundred
So the guess must be from 100-500
SO if you are a Saturday Night Live fan take a guess because this 3 DVD set contains the best of
Steve Martin
Gilda Radner
and John Belushi :happyface
The best of the best, from the SNL archives.
So take a guess, one guess only please.
Have Fun! and Good luck

One of the great characters from the movies was Frankenstein. Here on one dvd, in great quality, with menu and chapter index's is 7 Frankenstein movies.
1. Frankenstein
2. Bride of Frankenstein
3. Son of Frankenstein
4. Ghost of Frankenstein
5. House of Frankenstein
6. Frankenstein meets the Wolfman
7. Abbott & Costello meet Frankenstein
To acquire.
Guess the number I have selected from 1-500 and be the closest and you win. Contest ends thursday night.
If all goes well, at least from a turnout standpoint, I have the same type of dvd for Dracula and one for the Wolfman.
Great as a giveaway

Yes, we have a winner. The winning number was shared with Savage, who swore to secrecy. She was thinking of having her mother joining the group and giving her the winning number.
The winning number was 17 and with a guess of 13 Michael Randazzo was our winner.
His disk of all the Frankenstein movies will be in the mail tomorrow if I can get his address tonight.
Congrats to Michael and thanks to all who participated.

For this contest I tried to combine two factors. Something people don't have, and since I trade stuff from the 50's and 60's, so that's easy but with something that some might find interesting based on some posts I have read.
It's one disk with three unaired pilots from the 50's, all from the comic strips and radio.
1. The Phantom
2. Archie Andrews
3. The Shadow
Again, it's guess the number I have in mind from 1-500 and be the closest. The number as usual will be shared with Savage.
Contest runs till tuesday eve.

OKay TV Viewers, here is a new contest-
How much of a couch potato are YOU-
And how creative are you??
Most of you are familiar with SitcomsOnline as well as Americna Idol-by now- the ins the out, the drama- the good traders the not so good, the fun the hobby, the shows of course.
So in the great idea of Great TV-
I think Sitcoms needs a theme song!
An Anthem
A song that we as members can stand up to and sing at 3:45 in the morning.
OKay, maybe just I need that-
So put your pencil to the metal- and get out your guitar-your tamborine, your Partridge Family albums...(again this might be just me)
Contest rules-
No stealing other songs lryics,- the idea is fine- the concept or even the melody is fine-
But do not take the theme to lets say Facts of Life, and change the last line to "And then you have the Sitcomslife"
I think you get the idea.
There is no limit on length
And you can use the harmony and melody from a song, to put the original lyrics to!
No obscenities, inflmatory or insulting phrases allowed please*They will be automatically disqualifed.
:guitar:
SO lets hear it traders and creators-
Contest ends One week from Friday- to give everyone plenty of time to be creative-
So friday the 24th at Midnight Indiana time, is the deadline
The prize, other than be the coolest cat on the Sitcoms Board-??!!??
You have your choice-
PRIZE ONE
A Cartoon collection-
This is a collection of 4 DVDS and includes your CHOICE of 4 from a list of 45 Cartoon dvds.
Some choices include full sets of Goober and the Ghost chasers, Pac man, rainbow brite, Underdog, The Gary Coleman Show-to name a few- You can mix and match to assure you get something YOU don't have.
PRIZE TWO
The Couch Potato Weekend Special
A choice of any 4 DVDS from a list of old tv classics-Again your choice from a list of 140.
INcluding, but not limited to-Mr. Belvedere, Titus, Darkroom, Fame, Fantasy Island, Gimmie a Break, Hermans Head, that 80's show, Punky Brewster, Muppets tonight-
Again a choice of 4 to make sure you get some thing YOU want.
In the event of a tie, there will be a request for forum feedback so even if you don't want to enter your own song, you may want to help decide the winner.
On my panel of Judges are:
Lilhave representing the humor and wit of Simon-
Dragonbear, representing the fanfaire and class of Randy Jackson, the 2nd
And me, but of course the grace and style of Miss Abdul-
So ARE YOU the next SITCOMS IDOL??
Let's find out!!!

Ok, here's a quickie (roughly to the tune of The Beverly Hillbillies Theme):
:guitar: [twang twang chick-a-twang twang]
Come and trade away, but don’t make a sale
‘cause that’s not legal and you’ll go to jail.
But trading’s fine if you don’t trade retail!
With Sitcoms Online, your discs are in the mail!
:guitar: [twang twang chick-a-twang twang]
If it’s rare TV you want, we’ll never fail,
To aid your quest to find your Holy Grail!
Swap just a couple discs or you can go large scale!
With Sitcoms Online, your discs are in the mail!
[third verse, same as the first....]

To the tune of Sir Mix-A-Lot's "Baby Got Back": I call it
"Good Traders Send Back"
I like trading discs and I can not lie
You other traders can't deny
When a trader emails you trading tips
And a complete set of CHIPS
You get sprung, wanna send out your stuff
But you don't wanna call their bluff
I'm hip to Cathy Grover
Ain't sendin' nothin over
Oh baby, I wish I could trade ya
But you a playa
My homeboys tried to warn me
But with these lists on sitcoms make me so...happy
Ooh, savageamusement
You say you wanna see my lists?
Well, look then, look then
So we can get to tradin!
I've seen best yet
The hell with that Smurfs set
I want complete sets
Watching em like a turbo vette
I'm tired of websites
Sayin' these bad traders are alight
Take the average sitcoms user and ask them that
They gotta send somethin' back!
So, traders! (Yeah!) Traders! (Yeah!)
Does your trader got the goods? (Hell yeah!)
Tell 'em to send it! (Send it!) Send it! (Send it!)
Send those awesome discs!
Good traders send back!
(Sitcoms deals with the homemade only)
I like 'em nice, and crisp
And when I'm watchin a show
I just can't help myself, I'm watchin' like an animal
Now here's my scandal
I wanna get it home
And watch, doubletime, watch watch
I ain't talkin' bout retails
'Cause illegal discs arent made for here
I want 'em homemade and redone
So find that rare disc
Gettin somethin you just can't miss
So I'm lookin' for rare videos
Not needin these rippers trading like whoa!
You can have them Grovers
I'll keep my traders like Randazzo
A word to the good ol' tradas I wanna trade with ya
I won't lie or rip ya
But I gotta be straight when I say I wanna *trade*
Til the break of dawn
Sitcomsonline got it goin' on
A lot of Professors won't like this song
'Cause them punks like to hit it and quit it
And I'd rather stay and trade
'Cause I'm right, and I'm nice
And I'm down to send the discs twice
So, traders! {Yeah!} traders! {Yeah}
If you wanna trade me discs.{Yeah!}
Then send a list! of what you want!
Even newbies wanna flaunt!
Good Traders send back!

mine sounds stupid but since this is going on still I thought I would give this a try. We had to write a paragraph about something you do on the weekends and I wrote about trading. Well than we found out we had to write a poem from the paragraph. This might not fit, but since we had to write the poem and the contest is still on I will give it a try. Sitcoms Online was not in the poem I wrote for school and I just added it for the contest so its only on one spot.
Swapping have and want lists around Sitcoms Online, its tape trading
Lost shows shelved from syndication prevail.
Looking for My Mother the Car, Jammie Farr, and Checking In.
Original Airings are the top of the heap.
Collections growing like a city,
Not being able to find Dr Who is a pity.
Cling Cling Cling goes the change
Off to the post office to wait in line
Sending tapes to twenty towns
Then delivery confirmation and off they go
Going through the closet its 16MM film beta and laser disks
The formats of yesterday no longer needed
VHS is on its last play
Soon to be in the trash can with the old technology
Two houses down its the mail truck
Coming closer to bring my lost shows and rarities
Open the many boxes with hours of shows
Just in twenty tapes, another trade starts tomorrow.

Very good. Clean melody and something that isn't well known.
You should be coming back for the next round.
The next round? Does that mean I need a new song?
Okay, here's one that uses The Addams Family theme.
To those who might have queries
about their favorite series,
don't be afraid now, dearies.
Come join Sitcoms Online.

it's time for something newer.

No final day entries?
Come on. This is our last chance to sing together.
Well, if it's okay, I've got one more number. But keep your hankies handy. This time we're doing Over The Rainbow.
Some nights, when I am watching my TV,
I envision myself in places I'd like to see:
"Springfield" or old "Mayberry." Both divine.
Can't get there all alone, so I use Sitcoms Online.
I'll wave as I pass Will and Grace,
and then leave Archie Bunker's Place
behind me.
Pan past aunt Esther, then I cut
to Mary Ann and Ginger's hut.
THAT'S WHERE YOU'LL FIND ME!!!
S.O., that is the website I adore.
Every time that I log off, I'm always craving more.
If Jerry, Ray and Ellen try
to live in sitcoms, why, oh why, can't I?

This was tough.....I have talked to both judges on and off all week about this.
All that entered should be proud- you guys made the First Annual Sitcoms Idol contest a hard one to judge.
Alas, the choice was so difficult I have decided to have a runner up.
The runner up:
For creativeness, for humor, for downright effort and charisma!
SBEAMISH
Very clever, and very well rounded-
The winner of THIS years Sitcoms Idol Contest is none other than
JOSH FROM KC
With his entry, to the mix of Sir Mix-A-Lot
Very ingenious and not such an easy theme to sing either I might add.
I want to thank EVERY ONE who entered- Who read, who clapped, who cheered and sang along.
And you guys are all doomed now, cuz now that I know how creative you are----those just pick a number contests are gonna more sparse :p
I knew, I just knew there was talent out there- ((I just didn't know how much))
Now granted this was hard, with Lamont's Instrumental humming away- but alas we struggled through
Thank you thank you to all who entered-Those who didn't win, don't be disheartant, another contest is coming up - so keep your creative juices flowing..
The winners have been contacted:so if you receive no email, email me!

Congrats to the winners!
I now know my foolish mistake, I had great lyrics but no sound accompaniment. Next year I will illict the instrumental genious of Lamont and we will dominate the contest then.
Until that time I will be happy to do the talk show circuit and start scandalous rumors about the "ghost writing" and "lip syncing" that the winners must have used.
Cheers

HERE are the RULES
Below, are posted 10 RIDDLES.
You must solve each riddle, and POST a LINK to the answer to each riddle.
Sounds easy enough huh?
Well once a link is used, it is disqualified.
In example.
Let us say the first riddle's answer is Cow
And Redwhine goes to www.cow.cm that link is no longer valid for anyone else.
So make sure your first on this hunt.
Should more than one find 10 links to solve the riddles, a drawing will be held for the winner. Otherwise, those with the most links win, or a drawing is held.
But I KNOW You can find all ten!! So get going!!!!
The rules on the links.
Each link must be something already created (no creating a picture and uploading it to your trade list)
No link can be vulgar, offensive or obscene
Once a link is used, that URL, it is disqualified.
So make sure if you enter your link for Riddle 6, you scroll up to the person before you and see if they used the same link- as most will use the first picture they come to.
So in the THEME Of Spring here are the riddles.
Riddle Number One....
1-April Showers bring me, anxious brides carry me, hopeful men buy me, busy pees pollinate me
2-You might find these on a hill, or carrying a basket, you might find them in the playboy mansion, or as warner brothers mascot
3-You might use this to bounce, might use them to sleep, you might use this to grow or even to reap
4-People demand them, flowers love them, expectant wives/mothers get them
5-Parents color them, kids seek them, bunnies carry them, Dvd's Hide them
6-You fly one on windy days, Mary poppins sang about one in childhood days, Franklin used one in olden days
7-Open me when it's raining, close me when it's sunny, take me to the beach to cover you
8-Wether you use a mop or a broom, tackle a closet or a room the time is near the get things clear.....
9-Wether its the one in your community, or the one in your backyard these might bring much cooling off and summer heat to discard
10-Chicks and bunnies in marshmallow form, As Easter candy goes, they are quite the norm-
But beware the heat as you feverishly search
Cuz these little bunnies and chicks are messy when warm:ducky: :ducky:
What's the PRIZE you say?? Other than being cool enough to participate in my contest?
The prize is a mini Easter Basket with lots of goodies to tide you over, and what goes better with candy then movies? The Easter bunny swore me to secrecy on this one.
Contest ends Monday Night Savage Time Midnight. April 3rd...
So go, get hunting

anyone know where this crapola actualy got going
So far as I'm aware the origins go like this:
April 1 was at one time considered the 1st day of the New Year. Somehow that got changed to Jan. 1, but some people insisted on keeping it on Apr. 1. Non-existent New Year parties would be announced as a joke on those people. When they came to the "party" they would be ridiculed and called the "April fools".
