I noticed that at Dunkin' Donuts as well. I have seen that in some other eating establishments. I believe they gather all the money and disperse it equally among their employees or for a bonus or something.

i don't see what the big deal is.
if you had their job, you'd want all the extra money you could get.

I think it's in case someone doesn't have enough spare change (like an extra penny) to grab it from there. I've seen it at gas stations.

I don't see what the big deal with it is. I normally don't leave a tip, but since I don't really like coins, if I get a small amount of coins back, I leave it in the cup.

That is the most ignorant comment I have ever heard. People working at these businesses are there because of circumstance, not ability in life. They provide a service for you. Some people depend on tips as a large part of their income...thanks.

I've seen these coin-drop cups at Baskin-Robbins and other eateries where the help is usually college-aged and working their way through school...

Well, I had asked before because I was curious and the reply I got was that it cold be used for the people that come in shortchanged.:)

i don't think you are wrong. Maybe wrong about Dunkin Donuts, but the little cups they have at gas station that have pennies in it are usually those "need a penny, grab a penny, have a penny, leave a penny" things.

I thought those cups were for charity........ I thought you leave money in there so that the restaurnat/store can give money to charity.

They're either for tips, loose change, or charity. You don't have to leave money if you don't want to. I very rarely do. I never know if the money is really going to charity. I don't tip when I'm getting take-out unless it's a large order or I've gotten exceptionally good service. I take my coins home and put them in a jar.

because they're being paid minimum wage most likely and are doing you a service.
