It's been a while since we've heard anything about season one on DVD, anything doing for the Spring, as expected?

at least PARAMOUNT has said that it IS coming!:)
Last I heard, PARAMOUNT hadn't said anything official yet.
Now, if only someone would give us more news about "GET SMART" & "GOMER PYLE U.S.M.C."
(or the rest of "BARNEY MILLER". It's been, like, 3 years now, and all we have is season 1:mad:   )

I sent an e-mail to THE ODD COUPLE website about that, and they said that, despite what it says, that news is PROBABLY false, and doesn't come from PARAMOUNT. Because, Jack Klugmans son, Adam, said before that his father is recording some comentarry for the DVDs, but, when she asked Jack Klugman about it, he said he didn't know anything about it.
However, she said, she could be wrong, and it IS coming. So, keep your fingers and toes crossed, everyone!!!

I hope they are wrong about it. Even if this info is false, I am sure eventually it will come to DVD. If not this fall, next year sometime.

In my opinion this show should have been released a long time ago! Paramount is painfully slow in releasing shows on DVD!

aww, when I saw the thread come up I thought there was new info. This has to be one of the longest and biggest fan based show not to be on DVD yet.

well, according to TVSHOWSONDVD.COM-I wrote to them a couple months ago-a spokesman for Paramount says that it WILL DEFINETALY be realeased. Unfortunately though, he didn't say when. But he said Paramount KNOWS that people want to see it on DVD, and they're working hard to get it released.

you're welcome!
However, not to throw a damper on it and dash eveyone's hopes, but the person who runs THE ODD COUPLE website conducted an interview with Jack Klugman in Feb.; and when she asked him about a DVD release of the series, he didn't know anything about it. And he's supposebly doing commentaries for it!!

According to tvshowsondvd The Odd Couple Season 1 will be released by Time-Life in August. How the hell did Time Life end up getting it? That sucks, I'd rather be able to get it discounted in the stores. Oh well, at least it's coming and will have extras.

And here's the art. Not the best they could have come up with.

Maybe the TimeLife deal is just a temporary/trial thing. Sony eventually released season 1 of What's Happening after it had been available only through TimeLife, and Urbanworks eventually picked up Fat Albert after TimeLife had it. Don't know if that's the case with The Odd Couple though. I prefer the show post-season one anyway, so I'll probably wait to see what happens with season two.

i dont really see how Time-Life could possibly be any worse than Paramount - as long as it is coming out I am going to be happy :)

Because it's Time-Life, does this mean it won't be sold in stores, just online?
This is one of my all-time favorite sitcoms and I'm really looking forward to purchasing it.
I told my Dad about it and he's all excited saying, "It's about time!" I didn't realize he was into "The Odd Couple". :)

Yuck, who came up with that art? The bonus features look great, but I'm waiting on Paramount's release because I don't think Time-Life delivers to Canada.

from what it says on the Time-Life web site, yes, it does look like it'll only be sold on-line.
They're selling 2 sets, one is the complete first season, with extras, and the second one is the first season, and the movie plus the second movie (which I heard sucks, so don't waste your money on it).

I read the story about the Odd Couple Season One being released in August and got really excited that it's finally being released on dvd. And it seems like it has a lot of great extras. I guess I missed the part about it being available from Time-Life. So does that mean that we have to order it through mail-order????? We won't be able to go to Walmart or Target, e.g., and just buy it there???????

Not this time. I just ordered it. Hopefully it will come a day or two after it's released.

If I didn't know better, I'd think this was pirated based on that cover art. Holy ****, that's the worst DVD cover I have ever seen in my life.
40 bucks isn't so bad. In the end, I'll find someway to buy it, even though I dread mail-order only companies.

I e-mailed TIME LIFE and TV SHOWS ON DVD.COM asking if it'll be sold in stores, and they both said it will just be avalible on-line for now, and the same with GET SMART.
However, TIME-LIFE says it may be sold in stores "at a later date"

For me it's I don't have a credit card. Plus if it is just online they can charge really any price they want and you don't have a choice. In stores there is competition and you can shop around for a better price. Either way thanks for the coupon, I will be 18 in December so I can use it then if it isn't in stores.

TIME-LIFE AND CBS DVD ANNOUNCE LONG-AWAITED RELEASE OF THE ODD COUPLE ON DVD
4-DVD box set marks the first time the award-winning TV series has been available in the digital format
In response to a long-standing demand from fans of classic television, Time Life and CBS DVD have launched a comprehensive television and retail campaign announcing the release of The Odd Couple, available for the first time ever on DVD only at TimeLife.com. Packaged in a collectible, 4-DVD box set, the release features all 24 episodes from the award-winning series’ history-making debut season, as well as new bonus material, specially-created for this set.
Although select episodes from the series have been released in the past, this marks the first time that the show’s fans will be able to collect the complete first season on DVD. “This is a real milestone for great, classic television,” says Jeffrey Peisch, head of Time Life’s video division, “Americans have watched and enjoyed The Odd Couple for more than 35 years. Now – with this collectible DVD set – they can continue to watch and enjoy the show for decades to come.”
When originally broadcast in the fall of 1970, The Odd Couple gained immediate status as an audience favorite, eventually running for five seasons, and winning critical acclaim for its topical, character-driven writing, as well as Emmy Awards for its popular stars, Tony Randall and Jack Klugman.
Playing mismatched apartment-mates Felix Unger and Oscar Madison, Randall and Klugman portrayed two divorced men whose dramatically different habits and lifestyles led to a hilarious parade of arguments, misunderstandings and mishaps.
In addition to the 24 first season episodes, this specially-produced box set also includes never-before-offered bonus material, including new episode commentaries by Jack Klugman, Producers Garry Marshall and Jerry Belson, and others; filmed introductions to each episode by Garry Marshall, a show blooper reel, plus many other exclusive features.

I just wanted to mention, my mom actually let me use her credit card. Which is enough of a shock on it's own since she's very paranoid about using her credit card online. Anyways, I've order "The Odd Couple: Season One" on DVD. I can't wait for it to arrive!
