I was wondering if the finale was the one where Roseanne is telling the audience how she's been writing everything that happened in the past year and that Dan died of a heart attack.

Thanks so much. I never saw it in prime time, only in syndication and figured it probably was, but wasn't sure. I felt a little ripped off by the ending, personally. Kind of like, "Oh, it was just a dream." I think it should have just ended without the morality lesson.

I don't remember the finale, even though I seen it originally.

I just saw it yesterday, so it is fresh in my mind. The first half is seen from the point of view of Darlene's new baby, Harris. They have just brought her home from the hospital and everyone comes in to talk to her. I think it should have ended like that, but then in the next fifteen minutes, Roseanne goes into this really creepy monologue about how she's been writing in the basement the last year and how the lottery was all made up and how Dan died of a heart attack. She basically says that the last season was all in her imagination. I didn't like it at all.

I think it would have been better to say that Dan didn't die of a heart attack & that in reality great things happened.. besides the lottery!

Like for one, they could have said that Roseanne made it as a big writer & she's making alot of money for it. Darlene actually had her baby without any problems. Jackie actually hooked back up with Fred & realised that they were meant for each other. Becky & Mark.. expecting a child of their own & Becky going to school.

That would have been better to say... Everything in the finale seemed so sad for an ending..

I agree Geogiaboy, it did seem like a sad episode.

I cried a ton when Dan died. The last episode was clever, but not what I had hoped it would be.

Did you know how many fans of the show felt "Betrayed" when they won the lottery? I wonder how they felt when they learned it was all imagined.

Personally, I liked the finale, very clever. Sad, but smart. :)

I hated the finale! Dan died, Jackie was a lesbian, the sisters switched husbands. It was horrible!

I agree. At the time, I hated it, but now I really like it. Roseanne had some strong things to say in the final monologue, and I think it was a very powerful way to end the show.

I hated it too...but I like the concept. It was different...very ingenious.

Kinda like Newhart...that whole Vermont thingy was a dream of bob's wife...LOL
I don't think people came away from that (Newhart) feeling that they were duped or anything.
The Roseanne finale was surely different.

I agree w/this also. I was in shock after Roseanne did her little speel at the end, but I liked it. It kinda made more sense to me that way, b/c winning the lottery was a stretch, and IMO Dan having an affair was very out of charactor.

Exactly. Dan would never cheat on Roseanne. And how she handled that so-called affair, is not the way I know Roseanne wouldn't have handled it. She would have been screaming her lungs out, beating his ass, etc.

I totally agree. It was like the whole series that we had come to enjoy had all been one big fat lie and that wasn't right in my opinion.

I wanted to cry too! And yes, it does kinda suck how the show went off, but while it was on it was such a real life show. So I suppose, in some way, they did the right thing:rolleyes: But alot of it does suck (just like real life...see what I mean):talk:

I GET IT NOW! omg. thas the worse way to end a funny sitcom, i wish i could go back in time and smack the writers of roseanne. if i were incharge this would have happened: all that stuff that was made up was true. dan made it from the heart attack, Jackie is not a lesbo, and David and Darlene are still together as well as mark and Becky.

In a way the finale was sort of realistic. Unfortunately not everybody has a happy ending in real life! Parents pass away just like Dan did. Usually in finales, good things happen but Roseanne took a different approach!

Maybe you could try to pretend that the season finale "didn't happen" so to speak, and that things are just as they are on the show, and that Dan is really alive.

In the back of your mind, you may be thinking that Dan is really dead, but maybe you could try to suspend your disbelief and pretend that the season finale doesn't exist and so nothing Roseanne held in their monologue is true? You might find you can watch some of the episodes then. :)

I always assumed she started writing after Dan's heart attack. Idk, I just missed the finale on N@N, I'll have to watch it when it comes on again in a couple hours and really listen to what she says at the end.

I agree. I felt tricked. Actually, that was because I was tricked. I disregard the finale.

When I watched the final episode during it's original airing, I thought that it was just the last season that was supposed to be made up, too, but when I watched a re-run on cable TV of the finale, it seems that the ENTIRE SERIES was supposed to be a fictional story written by the Roseanne Connor character. . . . .

In Rosey Connor's reality, Mark was with Darlene, Becky was with David, and Dan had died of a heart attack. Jackie was really supposed to be gay and Beverly was still a Fifties Housewife who let men run her life.

I wasn't impressed by it, either.

I liked it to I couldn't believe that the series was all fake in a book and shocked that Darlene and David and Becky and Mark ended up together, and that Jackie was gay and that Dan never survived his heart attack. Also the part that was the saddest is the very end when Roseanne walks from the basement to the kitchen then the living room and the theme song starts playing and everything is orginal that was in the house before season 9 happened then it was over!!!

I didn't like the finale that much.

jackie was the lesbian, not the mother.

becky and darlene were married to each other's boyfriends.

that was whack!

becky was much better for mark and darlene was much better for david.

I think the series finale turned out the way it did because of how controversial season 9 was. Who knows what would've happened at the end had the audience been more receptive to the lottery, I think she wanted to get the show back in the audience's good graces at the very end, but it backfired.

I personally would've liked to have seen what would've happened if ABC granted her a season ten, since ABC wanted the show to end more than Roseanne herself

I know what you mean. But, Roseanne was ticked off, and she wanted to completely destroy the show and any chance of any reunion specials for the future. I mean, geez....she killed off Dan, made Jackie gay, switched husbands for Darlene and Becky, and the whole lottery thing was a lie. The only thing I didn't mind was the lottery being a lie-after all, I thought the shows got really lame after they won the lottery. It just wasn't Roseanne anymore.

I agree, Rosaeanne took the real-life route. In real life, there ARE heart attacks, there ARE gay people, there ARE break-ups. To top it off, the chance of winning a huge lottery is just about nil, so making that all a dream is a dose of reality too. I guess I'm used to more happy endings on TV.
