Does the comic book story of smallville(or any other past source) include the meteor shower being the source of weird things happening in Smallville and it's residents, or is that something just for the tv show? Also, Jorel doesn't seem like such a nice guy in the show. I don't recall that in past accounts either.

The story of the meteor shower was not addressed in the November 2002
SMALLVILLE: THE COMIC one-shot nor in the first issue of the regular series,
cover dated May 2003 (nor in any comic book that I know of). It certainly
never occurred in the "mainstream" DC comics (as far as I know). It was a
plot device the TV writers came up with, along with Chloe's "Wall of Weird."
Chloe Sullivan herself was a character created solely for the TV show. I
assume they figured it would provide lots of story ideas (even if, for a while,
it did almost become a "freak-of-the-week" gimmick).
Kal-El (Clark)'s biological father, Jor-El, was never portrayed as a bad guy in
the comics (to my knowledge). In fact, he was rarely seen at all after Krypton exploded.

One thing to remember: Smallville follows it's own continuity. It's considered Elseworld by diehard comic and Superman Fans.
The Meteor show being the cause was created for the show, and Jor-El on SV is NOTHING like Jor-El is supposed to be.

Very well put.
Also, any Smallville comics issued by DC are created to tie in with the TV series and are not considered part of the continuity covered in the "regular" Superman comics (Action Comics, Superman, Adventures Of Superman, etc).
