me and Rob both quit something like 3 years ago, I quit cold turkey and he went on the patch. I lasted for nine months :cuss: Rob hasn't touched a cigarette since. I'm trying to syke myself out to try it his way though...it seems to have worked for him.

I've tried more than once now, the longest I went was 2 weeks, its extremely hard to do. I did it cold turkey, I have also tried the gum which sucks, it made my cravings worse. As of now I am smoking again....I don't know how to not smoke, its scary to think about.

The first time I quit, I went cold turkey and it didn't last. A few years later I tapered off until I was only smoking four or five cigarettes per day and then I quit. No patches or gum, but it worked. That was fifteen years ago. I still have dreams about smoking, but I haven't had any serious cravings in about five years now. It can be done. One bit of advice that might sound a little weird: drink a lot of water. My lungs hurt like hell the first week or so after I stopped, but I read that water would help, and it did.
Best of luck to you. It's very difficult, but it's worth it.

i did try to taper off before going on the patch, and chewed a lot of gum for a couple of months afterwards (and I HATE gum) but it worked for me - it'll be 3 years this march.
it is DEFINATELY worth it, do it as soon as you possibly can.

I quit cold turkey; just like that over 2 years ago and haven't touched one since. Still now, I get a craving for one but I know that if I touch one; I might start up again so I try really hard not to do that. I wasn't a heavy smoker to begin with but I was still one and I'm so glad that I've stopped. :woohoo:

i don't smoke, but my boyfriend did over two years ago cold turkey. He had been a smoker since he was 17. He quit at the age of 45! He just out of the blue quit. I am glad, the difference is amazing. No bad breath! I am sorry, but for those of you who smoke, you have no idea what your breath smells like! and no matter what, your clothes reek of that smell. What a difference. Being around him now is like being around a very clean open field of flowers as opposed to an old diesel truck spewing black smoke!!!!

 we know we stink! The problem is the addiction part. It's probably the hardest thing i've ever had to kick. I only hope I can kick it. I don't wanna be chasin Rob around dragging along an Oxygen tank in our Golden Years

I know the addiction is hard. I had a bad habit of drinking pepsi and coke all day long. I couldn't stop. the taste would come in my mind and I had to have one AT ALL COSTS!!!! I am now slowly weaning myself off the stuff. Mmmmmm, juice sounds good right now!:D

Please for those of you who smoke, it's an addiction I know, I would show my boyfriend pics of smokers lungs and he was shocked. We all want you to be around for a very long time. Please try something. When you feel the need to smoke, get on the computer and post on SO. Keep the fingers busy. Here is a pic of a smokers lung:

I never understood why smokers even bother buying cologne, perfume or body spray, the reek of the cigarette totally masks the scent anyways.

I don't understand whey you would even start smoking. We know that nothing good comes from doing it. Jack Klugman is the inspiration to me why not to do it.

I quit cold turkey 18 years ago and never looked back. My husband quit 20 years ago. If you smoke, quitting is the best gift you can give yourself.

My mom has a friend who went and got hypnotized. She didn't want the craving and the withdrawl symptoms, so she did that and she hasn't touched a cig since. Costs a lot (I think she paid around $300), but it worked.

A lot of people I know (Including dear Dad) smoke. I don't dislike someone if they smoke, but I am very much against the whole habit of smoking. Nothing turns me off more than being right next to someone who just had one or two cigarettes. I can tell when y'all have been smoking...cuz I smell it on you!! :p
