I am sure there will be a few of you who have received something you either didn't like, you hated, you didn't know what to do with it or you already had one.
I received a smores thingamajig:lol: I hate smores!!!!!!

I so agree with you on the lotion thing. I prefer the lotion that has no scent. I feel the same way abt the feeling of just any lotion. Those bath things too. I probably use it once and then out it goes!! LOL
I know it's the thought that counts...but this thread is supposed to be fun!!! I don't want anyone to get the wrong idea.

Lots of ugly clothes.

I don't mind lotions and perfumes, but I usually (at least with lotions) end up getting some scent I don't like, like citrus or something. With perfumes, I have so many now that'll I'll still be using them when I'm 65.

I tell everyone to not give me anything that "stays". I have everything I need, and I have no room for anything. No decorations for my house, clothes, etc.

I like to receive candy, lottery tickets, gourmet coffee, gift certificates, candles, liquid hand soap (Body Works), gourmet baskets, etc. Nothing that stays.

If I've been talking about a book or cd that I've wanted, that's fine. Beyond that, I like to pick out what I want, even if it's a new toaster.

Little knick knacks and things i have no use for. I would just prefer money or gift certificates. I hate getting something I don't like and then sitting there having to pretend that I like it so not to hurt anyones feelings.

I don't like getting lotion. I just don't like lotion. It feels so weird. It feels slimy. The few times I've put lotion on I then have felt the need to wash my hands. I also don't enjoy getting scented bath sets. I like regular soap, shampoo etc. I'm just not interested in strange flavored/scented bathing gel etc. Of course I appreciate gifts that I get because it's the thought that counts. It takes me a really long time though to get around to using gifts like that. I still have a tube of lotion I got as a Christmas gift in 1998. I've only used a small amount of it. It will probably be around for years. I wonder if things like that expire? For all I know it might have gone bad. I have used it in years. I also don't like getting perfume. I'm really sensitive to certain smells and I don't like how perfume smells.
I HATE lotion too. I prefer Baby Magic lotion, which is sold by Playtex. That lotion REALLY works for me. Scented lotion...no way. I will maybe use some scented lotion, like, once a year. That's it. I have told people, PLEASE don't give me anymore scented lotions. Firstly, I hate them for the same reasons as you (greasy, makes me want to wash my hands, etc) and secondly, what makes them think I like lotion?!! When I turned 19 in 2004, I was gifted a bag and it had three REALLY FREAKING BIG bottles of scented lotion in it. Blech!

I did a serious purging of the junk that was on the top of my drawers earlier this year and I threw out two shopping bags full of lotions and cheap perfumes I got and have never used.

I think lotions CAN expire but not sure. When I did the aforementioned purge of said items, I had quite a few bottles where the lotion inside was starting to turn brown. :eek3:

That said, I haven't received any other crappy presents like that. I did get this really ugly doll from an aunt about 12 to 13 years ago. My paternal grandma gives my siblings and I some of the most WEIRD stuff for Christmas. One year, she gave all the younger females in my family toe socks and slippers that were hard as rocks. Another year it was gloves (I already have a ton, don't need anymore). The same year I got the gloves, she gave my brother pancake mix.  Another year, it was these REALLY padded clothes hangers. Weird, right? They were from 1968. They were packaged in boxes, which looked really ancient and I found the year on one side. She just dug them out of her closet and gave them to me and my sis.

How bout when you get something for Christmas that is Christmas related.........like a Santa Clause Sweater (not that I would wear that anyway) but it's like, "Merry Christmas"........."Here's something you can't use for another year"

I hope I don't come off sounding ungreatful but...

I really hate to get clothes from people because I usually end up not liking it.If you're going to buy clothes, I'm going to have to come with you to pick out something lol.

I usually hate when someone buys me something I have no use for or no interest for at all. I know it's the thought that counts but I don't need anymore junk lying around my house.

Overall, I really like it if people would just ask me what I'm interested in or like.So they can just buy that for me than surprising me. I hate it when Christmas days come around. Family & friends give you their presents & when you don't like it, you have to put this big front & smile:D. Oh I love this, I really wanted one of those.............NOT!!! LOL

I once got a Harry Potter book for Christmas, no offense to Potter fans, but I'm in my 30's, I have no interest in that whatsoever.

:wallbang    pancake mix!!!YOUR POST IS HILARIOUS...i am sorry for the stuff you guys got, but it's so damn funny!!!

Ok, just to be serious for a moment, I have learned that when you do receive something you don't like, rather than throw it out, pack it up with some other stuff you don't want or use and give it to a local thrift store. Just a suggestion.

might sound tacky, but if i get those generic lotion sets, or crap i don't want from one side of the family, i'll regift it to aquantiances, like people @ work, of course, I work in the engineering department at an automotive plant, so there aren't many women to regift stuff like that to, but you get my drift.

Ditto to everything Janice said. The only things I allowed my mother to buy me for Christmas this year were perfumes and one of my 2006 calenders. Other than that, I don't want anything. I have too much as it is, not to mention, I'm a freakin pack rat.

I'm not picky, so I've never had a gift I've not liked or found use for. The best way to avoid getting someone something they don't want is to get them a gift card from a store with a big selection, then they can get whatever they want and you don't have to worry about them hating your gift.

The hangers were in this unopened box...Had been unopened since my grandma got them in 1968. And she gave my brother the pancake mix the same year my sis and I got the gloves. My sis and I found out my brother got the pancake mix because my grandma ran out of money. Honestly, if you don't have anymore money, just don't try to get them anything if you really can't afford it. Don't get pancake mix. I wonder about her sometimes. When I was growing up 15 years ago, she had a soda can pyramid in the master bedroom. Ummm...?? Why?

I could write a book about all the weird, odd and strange things that she does. Meanwhile, my 91 year old grandpa just sits there, indifferent to the happenings.

LOL...that's a task in itself...buying hangers and then hiding them for 30 years.

Yeah...why not just make a card or something? Did he make any pancakes?

 Sounds like something I've seen in dorm rooms...tho that was usually beer cans.

OMG, the more I read this post abt the pancake mix and hangers I still laugh my ass off!!! I know there are people in this world that are just odd, or do odd things. I feel bad knowing she didn't have $$$ for gifts and resorted to giving the mix. She probably felt she needed to give something. How many times have you heard of people who don't give anything? She probably felt something was better than nothing. :(

I've always had really bad handwriting and when I was 15 or 16 I got a penmanship book. I thought it was a joke but my stepmom yelled at me later that year for not using it.

Body lotions and scented soap (Especially vanilla scented), colorful stones, anything homemade, jewelry. I hate getting stuff like that.
Christmas CD's (got a Brady Bunch Christmas CD one year  )

Got a present one year from a person that admitted taking something lying around the house and wrapped it up.

I don't like getting perfume, I just never wear it, even if I like the scent. I prefer my natural scent, thank you very much! :)

I am also very picky about clothes and jewelry. If you know my style, great! bring it on. It took my mom about 25 years to figure out my style. One year she really nailed it, I liked everything she got. But at this point in my life I have so many clothes that I don't really want anymore even if it is my style.

Other than that, I can't think of any horrific gifts I've ever gotten.

Same here....sometimes I get hits and misses when it comes to getting clothes for Christmas. One year my grandma gave me a really cute, seafoam green sweater from Aeropostale, and the next she gave me a weird-looking blouse I'll never wear. I'm usually not picky, but when it comes to clothes I normally like to pick out my own stuff.

I hate when my granny buys me clothes... she has the best intentions, but she gets me stuff that SHE thinks is cute.. and she's almost 70 years old, so needless to say our styles are going to be different. Then one year she gave me a book that I swear has been sitting on her porch for as long as I can remember.
