CHICKEN LITTLE AT NBC: DEAN DUCKS APPEARANCE WITH REPUBLICAN

Dem Chair Dean Ducks Last Second Joint MEET THE PRESS Appearance With GOP Chair Mehlman

The DRUDGE REPORT has learned from exclusive sources that Democrat Party Chair Howard Dean turned down Republican Party Chair Ken Mehlman’s last minute offer to appear together on NBC’s MEET THE PRESS this morning.

Moments before taping was to begin with host Tim Russert, Mehlman asked Dean outside the NBC studio’s green room: “There’s still time for us to go on together Governor.” Dean declined with a shrug of his shoulders and an uncomfortable cackle and then proceeded to walk away into the green room.

DRUDGE has learned MEET THE PRESS producers have been working to get a head to head Dean/Mehlman appearance on the program since Dean was named chair back in February. Dean and his handlers have repeatedly turned down the request. The former Vermont governor only agreed to do this week’s program if they appeared in back-to-back interviews.

Mehlman brought up Dean’s unwillingness to appear alongside him during the show: “I was hoping that Chairman Dean would be on sitting next to me this morning. Maybe we can do that on a future program. Look, he's somebody I've enjoyed getting to know. We meet in a lot of green rooms….”

Tim Russert: “We invited him -- do you have a question for him?”

Former Dem Party Chair Terry McAuliffe participated in regular head-to-head appearances with his Republican counterparts during his tenure from ‘01 to ‘05. McAuliffe went head-to-head with Republican chairmen at least five times on MEET THE PRESS alone, going up against past GOP chairs Ed Gillespie (twice), Marc Racicot (twice) and Jim Gilmore (once).

This weekend on ABC’s THIS WEEK the Democrat heads of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC), Sen. Chuck Schumer, and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), Rep. Rahm Emanuel, both appeared head-to-head with their Republican committee counterparts Sen. Elizabeth Dole and Rep. Tom Reynolds.

All bark and no bite!!

I'm guessing Doc Lealand Mckinzee will be along any moment now to explain the reasons why Dean didn't show. As you know Doc Lealand is Howard Deans official spokesperson for Sitcoms Online.

Why debate an idiot? All Ken Mehlman wanted to do is whine about how people called Michael Steele an Uncle Tom and shill for the President about the war.

Why not? If the Democrats want to win next year they HAVE to debate the issues, not chicken out and let the other side bash them. This is the reason that while the President and the Republicans are unpopular, the Democrats are as well, because they aren't coming up with a good alternative.

I'm especially surprised Howard Dean would refuse...

Not only does he tell us what every lib says when they make a statement he now Doc can see the future! Did you read the talking points for this debate before it was supposed to take place that you know what they were going to take about???

It once again shows how the dems have no new ideas about anything and are unable to have a straight forward debate. They would rather scream and preach scare tactics instead of facing off in a debate. Your boy Howard sure looks bad after this one!

Have you ever heard Howard Dean debate a Republican? The Republican wipes the floor with him EVERY TIME. Last year, Dean was on Sean Hannity's show, putting him to the fire with a list of quotes and corners to back Dean in. Dean was all over the place. He avoided a question and Hannity redirected him to the question. For a while now, if Dean has been on Hannity and Colmes Alan Colmes the liberal has been interviewing him.

It's like with Jimmy Carter. Carter avoided debating Reagan in two out of three debates in 1980. It goes to show you that when put to the fire, evidently (and I see it for myself) you witness a pillar of political science rhetoric come crumbling down, a force to take stances that they will not take stances on at the moment, and all you are left with is an out of ideas party. A party of "No" and that is all.

I will listen with open ears to a liberal, but there is a repeating pattern. When you cite facts and statistics, it is though they fall on deaf ears or are dismissed as "lies." It still doesn't change the fact that the facts are still facts. When I see Republicans state the facts, they emphasize the facts and statistics, and even tell you where to find them.

Example: We have heard from the far left, that Bush was behind 9/11. The Democrats called for a Bi Partisan commission in hopes to show at least some incompetence on the Bush administration to use as political ammunition. The commission concluded that there was no way that either President Clinton or President Bush knew that a plane would be used. This year, there was more proof made public that the Clinton administration was aware of information that could have prevented 9/11 in some way. It was reported by the AP, and suddenly vanished, as conservative publications printed more in-depth analysis. Then, there was more about Sandy Berger. What proof did he destroy before becoming a star on ABC's Commander in Chief?

You cannot gain the public's trust if you hide from the fire. If you are right, then your position will withstand the heat and prevail against the fire. No such thing has happened for a long time.

Dean got blasted by one of his own libs last week. Chris Mathews was on him hard about pro-life. Dean could not come out and say that the dem party was a prolife party. It's funny that he won't use the word abortion when it comes to that subject. He calls it a "womans healthcare issue". It's more politically correct than to say abortion which is what the dem party is for.
