I have read many times that Ozzie was present at Rick's recording sessions and had a major say on how the record was arranged and recorded. Considering Rick's early success, he must have had a golden touch.

Tru, dat! By the time Rick started taking big bites outta the pop charts in the late '50s, Ozzie had a slew of his own hit records starting some 20 years earlier!
According to his autobiography, "Ozzie," written in 1975, it was Rick that turned the big band leader into a true rock and roll fan, so much so that he contributed an integral rhythm guitar track to "Hello, Mary Lou," one of his son's biggest and most enduring hits.

HI, Which episode did Rick perform the "Hello Mary Lou"? Also, do you know which episode he sang his song "Travelin Man"? Thanks!

Ozzie used to tell the producer, Jimmie Haskell, "give us too much bottom and too much high end" because he knew he was going to play the tracks on tv and they'd lose all that top and bottom on tv. That's why those recordings still sound so good today. There's quite a bit of info about the recording sessions in the booklets of the Imperial albums released on CD back in 2001.
