Rock Princess, the phonetics in Spanish are actually MUCH easier than English phonetics. Afterall, we have all these weird ways of pronouncing words like "doubt" or "should." How the heck do we know how to pronounce these unless we were taught these at a young age? So anyway.... learning some simple Spanish phonetics is nearly the same in ALL other like words/spellings.
Quiero ser tu amigo. - I want to be your friend.
The "q" is pronounced almost like the English "k" as a hard sound. "uiero" in this instant is pronounced like "yehro." "Ser" is like "sehr" and "tu" is like the English "tu" in "tutu." "Amigo" is like "ah-mee-go."
Hope this helps a bit. ;)

By C/AS1 I'm assuming you're a freshman, right? AS-1? What's your rank?
I completed my AS-1/AS-2 years, but decided not to go on to my AS-3 year. My final rank was a C/SMSgt, or senior master sergeant. I don't really miss it either, to be honest

Ahhh, espanol. I feel like such a traitor after I stopped taking Spanish classes so I can fit in my German ones. And the near future Italian ones. I can still read perfectly in Spanish with little or no problems, but when trying to speak it, German comes out. I know I still have all that knowledge in my head, but it's as if it's been tucked into some deep dark corner where it's harder to get access of than German at the moment.
KARLY, necesitamos hablar en espanol mas porque tengo miedo que mucho de mi espanol esta morando. Es muy triste porque ahora tengo Aleman en mi cabeza todo el tiempo. Me amo Aleman mucho y pienso que esta una lengua muy bella pero NECESITAS SER MI HEROINA ESPANOLA.

Hi Rock Princess, it's true, it's all abt phonetics. English is one of the hardest languages to learn, if not the hardest.
I wish I could actually talk to you in person so I could show you. When I was young, I had a best friend who's family originated from Finland, so I taught her spanish and she taught me finish (the language of Finland). It is so much easier to just use phonetics, check out the internet, they should have a way of showing you. There might be some audio samples. I will check myself for you.

From what I've heard, Spanish is one of the hardest languages to learn. Since my school is blilingual (we are taught English and Spanish as our first languages) I didnt have any problem learning it.

Mmmmm.... I don't know if I would agree with that statement really.
What about Chinese? Japanese? Russian? Or non-native English speakers learning English? Or even French has some weird pronunciation rules, because Spanish is all about phoenetics.

No, im pretty sure English is the hardest to learn because it has tons of exeptions to rules and some words arent pronounced how they're spelled, ect...thats what my Spanish and English teachers told me anyway.

RIGHT! ...such words as rough, through, and bough, they all end in OUGH, each word is pronounced DIFFERENTLY. or how abt the word "phone", we know it's pronounced with an "F" sound, but to someone not familiar with english will try to pronounce it phonetically.

Yeah, and in Spanish its A LOT easier to pluralize words, there's just 3 simple rules that never change...in English those rules change all the time.

For this reason is why I am soooooooooooo convinced our country MUST teach multiple languages to students. Learning languages gets a little easier AND it's quite cultural.
You are very welcome, Rock Princess. Good luck! :)

Yeah, but don't rely on online translators. They translate horribly.

I agree with Kay Scarpetta in reference to online translations. It's just like using MS Word wholeheartedly to check your spelling/grammar. It's a machine, so it "tries" to translate but doesn't really know what YOU want to say. It's not perfect.
EmoJoe

Yeah because they translate literally...everything in Spanish isnt exactly like it is in english...like "Quantos anos tienes" actually means "how many years do you have", not how old you are.

Then, it translated to something in Spanish. When I translated it back, it came out as this...
