I have heard a lot of people say Rhoda was better then "The Mary Tyler Moore Show". Do you think it was?

It was a funny show, but I think MTM was funnier due to the interations between Rhoda, Mary and Phyilis.

I agree. It's not a question of Rhoda being a bad show or anything, but MTM was just so good. Rhoda was a very good show, I just thikn there's some element that MTM had that Rhoda was missing. Don't ask me what though. LOL

Kristen, you're not the only one who had found something lacking in Rhoda.

I actualy liked Rhoda better than MTM.I saw it much more regularly-and thought Rhoda's supporting cast was very good, especialy Brenda(a dumpier version of the original Rhoda)and Carlton(who made an impression without making an appearance).

Rhoda was OK...MTM was 10 times better, and Phyllis was 3 times better...but as I look back at some of my mom's episodes, the last 2 seasons of Rhoda were better then 6th season of MTM and the 1st season of Phyllis. I'm confusing u...right?

If I had a choice, between watching Rhoda or The Mary Tyler Moore Show, I probably watch Rhoda. Just something about it made it better then The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Maybe it was Valerie Harper and Nancy Walker.

It's difficult for me. I always have this lust as far as spinoffs are concerned. For example, if Laverne & Shirley did not spin-off from Happy Days, it would have been #1 on my list. Going back to Rhoda, I think Mary Tyler Moore would win in a close race. I do enjoy Mary, Lou, Ted, etc., but it's Rhoda that's tops on my list. (but then, Valerie Harper is always funny) In Rhoda, she's funny, and has a knack for wisecracks. Brenda is the new version of Rhoda's former state we saw on MTM. Joe was, of course, the one that finally married--and split up--Rhoda. In MTM, Rhoda was a bit overweight (though I don't thik she had a problem) and jealous of Mary's looks. MTM's 29 Emmys will not be forgotten by fans, but don't forget that Valerie won three times, in addition to another in Rhoda's 1st year. In short, even though I like Rhoda, I do have to admit that MTM is better.

MTM was better. I really liked this show when it premiered but I have a hard time watching the shows after Rhoda and Joe divorced.

Personally, I think that Rhoda is the best show of all time and TMTMS is the second best show ever. The Seperation and One is a Numberm of Rhoda, are even better than Chuckles Bites the Dust and The Last Show,of TMTMS. The writing on Rhoda is perfect, and the surprises kept coming without sacrificing the laughs or the interegrity of the characters. I do not want to disparage Mary Tyler Moore. She is a legend, but Rhoda is a phenomenal show with three stars with perfect chemistry. Rhoda was honest, funny, inspiring, and thought-provoking, and Rhoda is naturally a funnier character than Mary Richards.

If I too, had to choose between watching the Mary Tylor Moore show, or Rhoda, I would choose Rhoda. I just enjoy the show more. I agree that MTM is a legend and classic, and love the show, but something about Rhoda made it more appealing. Rhoda did have such a wonderful supporting cast that worked well together, and seeing Rhoda get married and divorced was certainly a fun direction to take the show. I just love the character of Rhoda and Valerie Harper did such an amazing job.

I wasn't a die hard fan of Rhoda but it had its moments. On the other hand, I never caught on as to why Mary Tyler Mooore took off so well, so yep, if you asked me it was a better show.

I prefer Rhoda over MTM. I could never get into MTM. But on Rhoda I enjoyed the Mother and Rhoda. Wasn't too crazy about Joe and Rhoda's sister Brenda

Mary Tyler Moore was a much better show than Rhoda. Rhoda had the potential of being a better show than MTM. The mistake was made by marrying Rhoda off immediately after the show premired. They could not come up with good storylines for the married Rhoda. Plus, in my opinion, Valerie Harper and David Groh did not have good chemistry together and that was another thing that ruined the show.

:yeahthat: While Valerie Harper and Rhoda were certainly strong enough to carry a show, MTM lost something. To me, the best part of MTM was the friendship of Mary and Rhoda. Even though I was born after both shows had gone off the air, I can relate to Mary and Rhoda, their close bond and their difficulties in singledom.
