It was in September 1975 that one of the greatest albums of the seventies and perhaps of all time, Bruce Springsteen's Born To Run, was issued.

Springsteen's third album, Born To Run featured "She's The One," "Backstreets," "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out," and of course the title song. Springsteen approached it with the desire to make an album that sounded liker Bob Dylan's lyrics and the Rolling Stones's music set to Phil Spector's production. He may not have made it, but he came close enough. :)

And, it got him on the covers of Time and Newsweek the same week.

So what do you think of Bruce's classic?

Anyone who has been around these boards for a while knows that I am a huge fan of Bruce. Infact, Born in the USA was one of the albums that first got me into music before I was even in my teens. I have to say though, and as surprising as this may sound to many people, I don't actually consider Born to Run to be one of his better albums. I like it, yes, but he has recorded many albums that I like much more like the before mentioned Born in the USA, Tunnel of Love, Darkness on the Edge of Town, The River and Nabraska. I do love the song "Born to Run" though.

It's essential mainly for "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out," one of Bruce's best songs. :)

It's also one of Bruce's hits that, for some reason, is not on any of his Greatest Hits collections.

There were quite a few songs, some of which were big hits, that were not on his 1995 Greatest hits album such as "I'm on Fire" and "Tunnel of Love". And the hits album he put out last year didn't even have "My Hometown" on it.

Yeah, you'd think with The Essential Bruce Springsteen being a 3-disc set, they would have had room for the songs you mentioned. Also, they should have included "Pink Cadillac" and "Cover Me". "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out" I thought have been a given for both collections though.

That's a good track list. But no "Jungleland"? And nothing from "The Rising"?
