Any Thoughts?

Does anyone have any feelings about trading with people under 18? I feel bad not trading with them when they ask me but I know how risky it is. Anyone have any thoughts on the matter?

hi, it depends on how serious they are into the hobby. i have gotten emails from younger "traders" or replied to posts and never got a response. course you can have the same from older traders as well. i have had some success with younger traders. if they have a track record or feedback of somekind, then i would consider it, depending on what they were wanting. i would NEVER trade material that was not age appropriate. thanks

I really don;t know because i never ask anyone how old they are when setting up trades. So i may have traded with a younger person. I just don;t see when someone who is 18 would have the time to trade between school and studying. I would have never been able to trade while i was in college between 18 and 22.

As far as I know, I've only traded with one teenager, and he's 16. The trade went absolutely fine. Age shouldn't be an issue when trading decent series. Character has no age limits. IMHO.

I can think of lots of other reason to not trade with someone besides age. :lol:

I have never asked how old a person I trade with is, age does not matter to me. If I had to guess I bet most people I trade with are over 20. I would trade with a 16 year old if they could complete the trade in a quick time period.

I guess for me I don't ask how old they are either.

It just seems to me that it isn't any more of a risk to trade with
a 16 year old than it is with a 35 year old.

You can get messed around pretty well either way. Just happens
that the 35 year old has a few more karma points plus or minus
against them already.

Maybe I just had a bad experience that threw me. I was trading with a 16 yr old whos parent found out what she was doing and threatened all sorts of legal action against me (copyright infringement). She was threatening to tell everyone (didn't really think they would come after me but still). After that it has always been kinda like why bother with people under 18? There are plenty of other people out there to trade with. Plus, I never ask the age either unless I get a feeling about the person. Most times you can just tell from thier emails or thier web sites. Plus, in Illinois atleast, there are some really odd child protection laws on the books. For instance, I could sent a minor a bunch of dvds. If they are not completely happy, they can take the dvds and never send you anything. It's perfectly legal. You know how many underage scammers we would have on here if law was taught in high school. lol

The moral of the story is don't trade with teenagers in Illinois.

(The contents of a person's trade list are usually more of a dead giveaway as to their age group than lack of grammar, spelling skills, and/or character, sadly enough.)

Actually there are laws like that everywhere, I just know that Illinois is very strict when enforcing it. honestly, doing buisness with minors in any internet situation is risky. Minors can't enter into contracts and thus don't have to abide by them. Even in retail locations, technically unless the store owner tells the minor specifically what the return/exchange policy is, the minor doesn't have to follow it. Sometimes even if the store owner does tell them specifically, the court will still rule in the minors favor. After my real job sometimes I work part time in the office of one of the tv court shows. You wouldn't believe the stupid cases we get there involving minors and the law is always on their side. Remember, minors can change thier minds at any time and there is nothing adults can do about it.

That information is really good to know. But you know what? Bad traders rarely seem to reap the consequences of their behavior no matter what their age (i.e. Pam Maples, Sue Nicole, etc.). Sad to say, but true. :(
