I've received them in trade a few times, and a couple have been defective. Buy some TY media instead (FujiFilm DVD-R/+R labelled "Made in Japan") at Best Buy and you won't have any problems. They're on sale this weekend for $19.99 per spindle of 50. They run the sale every two or three weeks.

with store brands like that its hit or miss
sometimes i have had people mail me generics that were fine
other times the stuff they sent me was all messed up
for the few cents u save
it is best to just pay extra and stick with a name brand that you know and trust
not worth the hassles to take risks on cheap discs

kevin, thats great advice
unfortunately all the fuji in my area, is made in taiwan, at best buy and at al the other stores
so its not the nice ty stuff
office depot --for the most part--uses ritek go5 in their 8x office depot branded media
which is very good media, usualy rated second right behind the tys
office depot runs sales all the time, ships free to your door, and has a 10% rebate on all purchases if you use the advantage card that they give away for free

Sonics are OK. I have used them before. They are only rated at 4X though. Unless they actually burn faster than what they are rated I don't buy 4X. As far as media you can walk into a store and buy, I normally buy TDK, Memorex or maxwell. I would rather buy brand named media than off brand. You can always get 50 packs of brand name 8X, 16X every week at circuit city or best buy for $19.99. Circuit city has 25 packs of TDK on sale for $7.49 this week. Thats only $30.00 per 100 for good brand name discs.
I have received office max discs in trade, they copied fine. I would still rather spend a little more or the same for brand name discs.

PPLLLEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEEEEEE don't listen to the idiots out there who recommend certain store brands and cheap media deals! Blank media like Sonic, Princo, CompUSA, CMC, Longten, Onidtech (and many more) are total crap and not worth the price of shipping. While many people may say "I've never had trouble burning them"... they've probably not checked them thoroughly with read tests. I can't tell you how many times a trader has given me cheap media (often the ones I have mentioned above) only to find out that none of the five DVD burners (of various brands from Sony to HP to MicroAdvantage to Toshiba) on my three computers can read them! So do yourself and all your traders a favor by using one of the more select media such as Prodisc, MCC, Taiyo Yuden, or Ritek. A list of good and bad media is found at www.nomorecoasters.com. A program that lets you read the manufacturer ID from the disc is DVDInfoPro, and can be downloaded for free at DVDInfoPro.com. (Verbatim, Sony, Memorex, etc. are brand names, but each company may use more than one manufacturer of discs... you'll need to look for the manufacturer ID, not the name brand).
Good media doesn't have to cost much more, if at all, by the way. The Verbatims that I bought last week from Best Buy were 16X MCC discs... great media. If nothing's on sale at Best Buy or Office Max, then check out Supermediastore.com.

Rated 4X, but they actually burn at up to 8X. Yes, it's the real deal.
