Did anybody think Mrs. Garrett was more extra goofy acting in the first season?

she was a goofy character on Diff'rent Strokes, then she started getting more serious around the time Jo came in

I guess her character had to get more serious. She had to become responsible for four underage girrls who snuck out to a bar while under her care.

I'm watching the early episodes now and Mrs. Garrett was buzzing around her room like an airplane and Sue Ann walks into her.

MRS. G was definitely goofier in "DIFFERENT STROKES" (remember she was watching a rich white family who adopted 2 black kids) due to the fact that ARNOLD brought the best out of her: he was so hilarious you just had to laugh!
On "FACTS OF LIFE" her role changed from "housekeeper" to "housemother", then "nutritionist" so she had to be a perfect role mother for wild teenage girls (who were much more trouble than sweet small ARNOLD). She was still bubbly + hilarious but with a much more stronger + firm character: she became attached to 4 different girls, started treating them like they were her own flesh & blood (probably cos she never had girls but 2 sons instead), solving each girl s problem, she adopted them in her heart in a way which is why she had them come live with her in EDNA s EDIBLE.......

Plus she was still connected to the Different Strokes character since the spinoff had just started so she had her DS personality which would eventually fade as FOL went on

I have to say i prefer her FOL personality more: the relationship she had with those 4 girls was far deeper than DS (although maybe less bubbly), she still had not lost her funny personality, she got more involved with the characters, she was no nonsense but a great confidante if you needed a shoulder to cry & she loved really.....

It was ok for her to be goofy on DS because she had a minor role but on FOL she was the lead character in charge of a group of teenage girls so it was no way she could still be goofy.

You re absolutely right: on DS she was just a nice housekeeper, whereas in FOL she was kind of like the boss lol! (in good caring way)
Johnny be good!
