I remembered Benson in its original ABC transmission runs, especially the final episodes in which Benson was running for Governor against Gatling, who was running for that job for a third term. The final episode ended when Benson and Gatling, who previously had a bitter relationship when running for governor, settled their differences and watched the election returns together. When the winner was ready to be announced, the name was never revealed, and viewers (especially I) never found who won.

That episode ended the series, but I wonder what life would have been like if Benson, the series, were to continue for another season. What if Benson would have won? Would he find a government position for Gatling, his old friend, even though Gatling was no longer Governor? What if Gatling would have won? Would he let Benson to continue being Lieutenant Governor?

What do you think? I think Benson deserved to go on for at least one more season. I like the idea of Benson being Governor because he had come a long way in the series from being in charge of the household staff, to the state's budget director, and to Lieutenant Governor. James Noble, who played the Governor, deserved to continue on for one more season as Ex-Governor Gatling. Benson might be able to find something for Gatling to do. What do you think would be a suitable government position for the former governor?

I like the series, and another season wouldn't hurt matters.

i always thought that it was a good way to end the series, but I wouldn'tve minded if it HAD continued :)

All interesting questions!

I'd have to say that while it would have been good to see Benson as Governor, it would have probably been an issue since it would be unlikely that the current Governor would now want to work for Benson. Yes they were good friends and all but once you're Governor I'm sure you don't take such a huge step down. With this in mind, I don't think I'd like the series as much without James Noble because he was such a big part of the show.

Of course, we should also keep in mind that (if memory serves) the ratings were quite low by the final season and I'm sure the network wouldn't have been interested in renewing it, even with Benson as Governor. But of course I know you are probably just speaking from a hypothetical standpoint!

Just my two cents. :)
