I was watching the THS of Webster and they were saying that the creators copied the idea for Webster from Different Strokes. I will have to get some eps of This Show to see if it was at all similar to Different Strokes. Haven't seen this show since it was on CBS

What's the THS? Different strokes inspired Webster. It was a big hit on NBC and producers at ABC, not CBS, wanted to cash in on that same success.

I don't think it was that big of a copy of differnet strokes. The only similarities was that a black kid was adopted by a white person although in this case it was a couple. For starters Gary Coleman was the comic on that show. Most of the big laughs came from him. Webster was more of an ensemble. Even though Emmanuel Lewis was the star, most of his scenes were of the awww variety. He rarely made you laugh. I always thought Alex Karras was the funniest person on the show.
