After taking a week off for President Bush's last-minute press conference, Joey returned to NBC's schedule on Thursday night to kick off the second week of May sweeps. Unfortunately for the freshman spin-off, the results were more of the same, as the series reached a new record-low rating for the eighth week in a row. The twenty-second episode of Joey pulled a 5.2 rating and an 8 share, down slightly from a 5.3/9 for the last new episode two weeks ago. The numbers are once again NBC's lowest ever for any new programming on a Thursday night during the regular television season. Though the network has already renewed the sitcom for a second season, the cancellation clock may soon be ticking unless it sees drastic improvement. With an estimate of just 7.47 million viewers, Joey ranked in a distant tie for second in its timeslot behind Survivor: Palau and ninth overall for the night, as shown by the preliminary ratings.

1. CSI: Crime Scene Investigation: 15.8/25

2. Without a Trace: 12.3/20

3. Survivor: Palau: 11.7/20

4. ER: 10.5/17

5. The Apprentice 3: 8.7/13

6. Will & Grace: 5.5/9

7. Sweet Home Alabama: 5.3/9

7. Primetime Live: 5.3/9

9. Joey: 5.2/8

Meanwhile, CBS won the night with ease as usual, averaging a 13.3/21 that dominated NBC's second-place 8.2/13. Joey slipped out of the season-to-date top twenty in January. American Idol and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation have a stranglehold on the top spots, while Joey continues to compete with Will & Grace for the number-three sitcom behind Everybody Loves Raymond and Two and a Half Men. Check the charts below for updated ratings as they are released. Final viewers and rank are updated every Wednesday (six days after the episode aired), while final rating and share are updated the following Friday (eight days after the episode aired). Joey wraps up its first season next Thursday night with back-to-back new episodes, including a cliffhanger to end the season finale.
