LOS ANGELES - George Lopez underwent a kidney transplant with an organ donated by his wife, a publicist for the actor-comedian said Monday.

George and Ann Lopez "are resting comfortably in their Los Angeles home and are both expected to make a full recovery," according to a statement from spokeswoman Marleah Leslie.

The operation occurred last week at an undisclosed hospital in Los Angeles, said another spokeswoman, Ann Gurrola.

Lopez, star of the ABC comedy "George Lopez," had a genetic condition that caused kidney deterioration, the release said. Further information on the condition was unavailable, Gurrola said.

Filming on his TV show had wrapped for the season. Lopez also had completed work on the film "The Adventures of Shark Boy & Lava Girl," directed by Robert Rodriguez and opening June 10.

Lopez and his wife, a producer, have been married 12 years and have one child, a daughter, Gurrola said.

I had no idea he was sick either...:(

God bless you, George, and bring you back to good health soon! And bless you too, Ann, for your generous gift!

Good luck to both of them. I love the show, and I'm going to get stoned for this, but man, they have got to be the ugliest couple in Hollywood.

NEW YORK (AP) - Just weeks after undergoing a kidney transplant, George Lopez says he feels better than ever.

"It hasn't even been a month and I feel alive," the 44-year-old actor says in an interview on ABC's "Primetime Live," to air Thursday (10 p.m. ET). "I feel as good as I did bad, I mean it's unbelievable. Everything has changed. My personality has changed, my appetite has changed, my energy level has changed."

Lopez, star of the ABC comedy "George Lopez," had a genetic condition that caused kidney deterioration. Last month, he received a kidney donated by his wife, Ann. "It was really bad," says Lopez. "I was operating on 18 percent kidney function in both kidneys and at 50 percent, you go onto dialysis."
