... Don't even BEGIN to compare I Love Lucy to ANY other television show.
No television series will ever come close to the stature I Love Lucy made. And FYI, If it wasn't for Lucille Ball, NONE of your faves and mine would've ever made it to the air waves. "I Love Lucy" brought something to the screen that was amazing, something we had never really seen before it.... the first TRUE, I repeat, TRUE! sitcom of all time. It was daring. It was courageous. It was the first show ever to mention pregnancy, and brought the first "mixed" couple to the air waves. This show broke the mold in so many different ways. It has another great sign of a TRUE classic... its entertaining us since 1951... 54 years on the air, NONSTOP. It will continue in syndication for a LONG time, and when it ends after its long reign in syndication, that still won't be the end for the series that started a million more. Lucille Ball will always hold a place in our hearts, and we will always hold a place in her heart, up in heaven. Thank you Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, Vivian Vance, William Frawley, Jess Oppenheimer, Madeline Pugh and Bob Carroll, Jr.

Leave it to Beaver....I was never a big fan of I Love Lucy, honestly. Lucille Ball was a good actress, but I never really liked the show. I always thought LITB was funnier and written better.

Hey listen, it's not a "fact" that I Love Lucy is better than Leave it to Beaver. You're behaving very immaturely. And it just makes you look like a moron typing in all caps like that... *chuckles*
I happen to like Leave it to Beaver better, so SHUT UP.

Whether or not you prefer "I Love Lucy" or "Leave It To Beaver" is your own thing.
But it is a fact that ILL is a more important series. Doesn't mean its better, doesn't mean its worse. But in the history of television (and the world in general).... ILL is much more important than LITB will ever be.

Guys,
I prefer LITB but they are both great shows in their own right. I have a question:
Why is it that these shows have been so well preserved in terms of film quality, where as other shows from the 50's-60's are barely recognizable?

I think it's because they go off the air for long periods of time and the companies don't bother to convert them to permanent-DVD-quality.

I'm a big fan of both. But I prefer Leave It to Beaver because I'm a sucker for sentimentality in sitcoms and Leave It to Beaver had more of this than did I Love Lucy. That's not to say that I Love Lucy didn't have its share. I loved the way Lucy broke the news to Ricky that she was going to have a baby. But I'll never forget the Leave It to Beaver episode in which Wally and the Beav saw their parents and lives through the eyes of the trashman's sons or the one when Wally and Beaver apologize to their mother for not acting gracious over sacrificing their day at the carnival when Aunt Martha visits, among so many others. Also, the characters in Leave It to Beaver appear to me to have more depth. On two occasions, Eddie exposed his innermost feelings to the Beaver: once, after staying overnight at the Cleavers', he talks to the Beaver about his fear of staying home by himself and, in another episode, gets Wally to wear a different outfit to an event so Beaver wouldn't get into trouble for ruining Wally's suit. And, while I Love Lucy was indeed groundbreaking for its arc of episodes regarding Lucy's pregnancy, let's not forget that Leave It to Beaver dealt which such issues as alcoholism and children of divorced parents –- quite ahead of its time for the late ‘50s and early ‘60s.

They are both good shows. I Love Lucy I like as an adult. Leave It To Beaver I see from a child's point of view. I don't remember watching Lucy as much as Beaver when I was a child. It was a bit over my head.

I believe that it was broadcast all over. It aired on channels that broadcasted all over. Dumont from 47-48, NBC from 48-49, CBS in 49, and NBC again from 49-50. I believe it was the first network sitcom. What about hillbillies?

I like Beaver better....
Say what you will, at least Beaver was able to get out of situations his dumb/lazy friends sucked him into. All Lucy did was suck herself into bad situations and end most of the episodes with that wail of hers. Waaaaahhh......
