As I promised, I'm starting picture threads for all divisions of General Motors, so here's one for Chevrolet -- the 1965 Chevy Impala SS Convertible.

The Chevrolet Nova was the Apple Pie Division's "compact" model in the sixties and the seventies. This one is a 1972 SS model.

http://www.musclecarclub.com/musclecars/chevrolet-nova/images/chevrolet-nova-1972a.jpg

The name Nova was a triple entendre; NOVA was an acronym for the four cars that shared its platform (the Nova the Oldsmobile Omega, the Pontiac Ventura, and the Buick Apollo), a nova is a star that shines brightly for a brief time, and "nova" is Latin for "new."

The name couldn't be used in Latin American countries, because "Nova" has another meaning in Spanish - "doesn't go."

Chevrolet's most radical car in the sixties was the rear-engined Corvair. This is a 1967 model.

http://www.cars-on-line.com/10400/67corvair10473-A.jpg

Contrary to popular wisdom, Ralph Nader's book Unsafe At Any Speed did not kill the Corvair. The defects Nader publicized in his book were ironed out when Chevrolet came out with the second-gerneation model in 1965. GM pulled the plug on the 'Vair after the 1969 model year because Ford's Falcon was consistently beating it in sales.

A very fast Chevelle!

All right! :happyface
That's my kind of car! A big V-8, 400+ horsepower and 12-second 1/4 miles!
That's a nice '68 Chevelle. I see some of those at the weekly car gathering. When the drivers stomp on the accelerator which they sometimes do when they leave, they have a hard time keeping the car in one lane (the tremendous torque makes the back of the car fishtail).

That one is nice, too. With the big 396/360 hp. engine, they could really move.
Even the 327s did okay.

The 1976 Chevrolet Chevette!

http://mclellansautomotive.com/photos/H2295.jpg

Promoted as "a new kind of American car," it was indeed the first American subcompact that didn't require you to sit lower than the driveshaft! Though made and sold in America, the Chevette was actually a relative of the German Opel Kadett. The Chevette was adapted quickly for the American market in the wake of the first gas crisis of the 1970's. It was crude and basic, but it does have its adherents.

The 1982 Chevrolet Cavalier!

http://www.raymaner.com/cars/chevrolet-cavalier-1982.jpg

Introduced in the spring of 1981, the '82 Cavalier was meant to compete with small cars from Toyota and Honda and retard and even reverse the Japanese share of the American market. But, with the Cavalier's higher price, anemic engine, and lousy fit and finish, it, er, didn't quite turn out like that!

Here's the Chevrolet people love to hate!

http://mclellansautomotive.com/photos/B27623.jpg

Introduced in 1971, the Chevrolet Vega was the Apple Pie Division's first subcompact, nominally replacing the Corvair. Everything about it was wrong. First of all, it was built using a shortened chasis from a bigger car - hence the huge driveshaft in the interior and the low seating. Secondly, it had such poor corrosion resistance, it rotted in the showrooms, something even Fiats didn't do. Thirdly, its aluminum engine had the capacity to, uh, melt.

Chevrolet has gone on to make other abysmal cars - the Monza, the Citation, the Cavalier with the 1.8-liter engine (which was avialable only in the Cavalier's first year of production because it was too anemc) - but they never again made a car as bad as the Vega. the couldn't even if they wanted to. The government wouldn't allow it!

Check our this Impala SS. It's my icon for Spring 2006. I always thought they'd look cooler in black with red stripes, but I was thinking they'd be better off on the sides... until now.

Yes, this is a Chevrolet. Originally a Chevy Van, but I call it a Custom Chevy Van-Camper-Pickup. What a far-fetched tow vehicle. I wonder if the 5th Wheel trailer this guy tows is any freakier.

My previous post was #1508. So I've decided that I'm going to post an old Chevrolet Sedan Delivery, and I found one from 1951. The Sedan Deliveries happened to be model number 1508(until 1959 & 1960).

Here is a picture of my husbands 1968 Chevy. When he first bought this truck it was up on blocks in someones front yard just rusting away. It took him a good 8 years to totally restore it inside and out. Then we decided to sell it when gas went up past $3.00 a gallon. He made quite a good profit off it too. As you can imagine. :D Sure do miss cruzin around in it though.

I know this is supposed to be a picture thread, but I just had to post this anyway. Maybe I should post it on the Pontiac picture thread too.

Whoops! I found out I can't post it on the Pontiac Picture Thread, because it was archived.
