CHECKING OUT: The prognosis is not good: ER's only remaining original cast member, Noah Wyle, will be hanging up his stethoscope in the NBC drama's May 19 season finale, according to USA Today. However, he will bring back his fresh-scrubbed alter ego, Dr. John Carter, to County General four times a year for the next two seasons. So much for making a clean break.

Not surprising but sad news just the same. How far can you take a character after so many years. :)

I LOVED Carter back in the day but I think his time on the show is up. After Kem left, he doesn't have much of a interesting story line. But it will be sad to see him go.
