I started a new job this week, but I quit already.....

......I was at my former job for six years. The people hated to see me go. The new job I was ok, they paid me $1.10 more than my old job, but it wasn't about the money. I had people appreciating my work, and I earned 3 weeks vacation there. I gave my resignation yesterday to go back to my old job. The administrator was not happy, but he understood. He told me to stay on board until next Friday. I then went into his office to thank him for bringing me on board. Then he told me I wouldn't be much of a factor for the rest of the day and to turn my key card in and go home. How people change quickly! But I got my old job back even before I resigned with the new one. It wasn't a big loss. I'm making less money, but as I stated, it wasn't about the money, it was about where I am comfortable at and people love my work. Both jobs got good benefits, but the new job didn't offfer dental and I need dental. The old one did. Did I make the right choice? What would any of you would have done?

You sure did!! I've found if you start a new job that you know you're not going to like,then the sooner you leave the better for both you and your employer. They appreciate it because they usually can still hire their 2nd or 3rd choices easier. Also, they haven't invested that much into training you.That way you don't burn any bridges for future possibilities too.
Also, even though your old job pays less, it offers more benefits. Medical benefits, profit sharing, etc. can add up to approx. 1/3 of your base salary so that has to be taken into account. Sure, you could earn more somewhere else, but because you have to pay dental out of pocket, it cuts into that wage, bringing the actual amount down.
Also, I found out much later in my career that since you're there so much of your time, its very important that you're happy where you are and what you're doing than just making good money.
And finally, if you quit soon, and your old job is willing to take you back, quite often they'll reinstate your seniority if you were a valued employee.
I think you did the right thing! And just think - now you can take a week or two this summer for holidays that you wouldn't have gotten at the new job!

I turned down a job that would've made me more money and had some better benefits because I had a feeling that I wasn't going to be comfortable. You have to do what your gut tells you.

I would have done the same thing. What good is money when you hate going to work everyday? Not worth the mental stress if you ask me.

:lol: ME!!! I once quit a job after only 3 hours!!! I couldn't believe the cheesy working conditions!! I think I ran out the door siting a gallbladder attack or something ridiculous like that!! I couldn't get out of there fast enough!!! :lol:

My uncle once quit a job after half a day. At lunch he just left and never went back.
