Memphis television reporting a suspect fired some shots about a block from the Peabody hotel where President Bush is staying. No injuries reported... suspect is in custody, gun found in his jacket.

If that was an attempted assassination, and it's too soon to tell, that person won't see the light of day for years upon years.

Is there a link to any web site with information on this? TVs off, and I haven't heard anything on the internet news otherwise.

I really think if it were an assassination attempt, the shot would have been a little closer than a block, unless somebody just has incredibly, INCREDIBLY bad aim....and if they did, do you really think they'd be the one to try to assassinate a president

Probably just another random metro gunshot that just happened to be near the president's location.

Doesn't look like it was remotely an assassination attempt according to this article I found.

There was a big scare in Downtown Memphis Thursday night; shots were fired near the Peabody Hotel where President Bush is staying.

It all started when officers spotted a young man who looked suspicious. They started following him, and that’s when the 17-year-old took off. Officers followed him, and caught up to him near AutoZone Park. They arrested the teen. The boy told officers he was just stealing stereos from cars, and he said he had no idea that President Bush was even in town.

Secret Service agents were put on alert however they were never involved.
