Good! Now maybe more people will use mass transit, or at least buy smaller cars - then we can get those stupid SUV's off the road and convert them into housing for the poor! They're certainly big enough!

Unforunately that is not going to happen here in California; where I live, I am paying 2.20 for a gallon of unleaded gas, and still people are running out to buy SUVs

I'm pretty comfotable tanking at $1.94. It's not great, but hey, It was $2.25 in August and this is the cheapest in town. Go out to the other tiny mountain towns and you can't find anything cheaper than $2.30. Gotta love touristy states.

I hear it's supposed to raise as high as ~$3 a gallon in some states. My guess would be in states with higher cost of living - i.e. California, etc.

It's already nearing $2/gallon in Albuquerque.

Since I live in the glorious state of California; already in some areas the gas prices are as high as $2.75 a pop..The average price of a house is over 500,000 bucks and soon the gas prices are going to be 3 bucks...this state SUCKS

It's about $2.25 for regular out here in the Los Angeles area. I'm glad I don't have to drive far because I'm keeping my Cadillacs no matter what! ;)

Yeah, I haven't even driven any of my cars that far. The farthest would be from the San Fernando Valley to Palmdale (about 45 miles). And that's been only a few times.

I've always had a back-up plan. If I had to drive many miles each day, I would buy (for that purpose only) a 1985-'87 front wheel drive Cadillac limousine (yes, they made those).

They would get at least 22 mpg on the highway and could seat 7-8 people.
I'm not fond of FWD cars with little engines so hopefully it won't ever come to that!

A Cadillac limousine 22 mpg on the Highway!!! WOW...
As it is now, I am paying over 25 bucks for a full tank of gas and I drive a small car, but since I commute once a week from where I live to Los Angeles, which is exactly a hundred miles..that full gallon of gas does not last very long...

Well, remember, it's a limousine but a downsized limousine. It's about as long as a late '60s full-sized Chevy or Ford (the Cad is 218.6"). And it has a small (by Cadillac standards) 249-cu.-in. engine (my limo has a 500-cu.-in. engine) with only 125 horsepower.

Your 100-mile commute... is that one way or round trip?

That's the highest I've ever seen it here. Up 6 cents today and up 20 cents in about 10 days.

I got news for you, Brentie-boy; gasoline - or petrol, as our English cousins call it - is supposed to be expensive! Here, it's artifically cheap thanks to government subsidies. In Europe, gas sells for the equivalent of $5 a gallon. They get the better deal - smaller cars, better mass transit, nicer cities and fewer malls!

Malls suck!

It's already 2.21 per gallon and my mom said she heard it could get up to 2.50 per gallon! I was planning on getting my lisense this spring or summer, but mayber I'll wait a little longer now!

You must have a small car... $20 gets you just under 10 gallons at $2.05-2.15 a gallon. In our van... it's about $35.

I've never seen prices that low. Must be just a Kentucky thing. :p

I do remember, though, in the summer of 1999, Illinois had some oil embargo where prices were $2.85 a gallon. I've never seen any prices as high as that since then, but I'm sure I will soon.

Today I watched 2 old ladies in separate vehicles get gas and speed off without paying all in the 5 minunte span that I was there pumping gas at my car  And I know those old coots didn't just "forget" to pay either, because I go to church with both of them  You know it's bad when 85 year-olds are pumping and running to avoid paying the high prices lol

I do, Seth! Here (Dayton, Ohio) in February 1999 I remember some stations where all three grades were two digits, with RUNL being as low as 76.9 cents a gallon--I took a picture!

On Thursday the Shell station by my place raised their prices to $2.159 RUNL, $2.259 plus, and $2.379 premium (oops, V Power!). $2.159 is the most I've ever seen it here, two cents more than May 20 of last year!

We have cheaper gas too because we have a choice...10% ethanol blend, or not. The ethanol is cheaper. And it helps farmers. GO ETHANOL!!

Driving down to Missouri sucks just for the reason that they don't have ethanol.

I remember when it was around .52 to .55 cents in the mid-'70s.
In several episodes of "Starsky & Hutch," you can see gas stations with ".52 cents" on the sign.

You know what's crazier? Keeping gasoline artifically cheaper than its actual price, about $5 a gallon, thus encouraging people to drive bigger cars and shun an already underdevloped and underfunded mass tranist network, and also encouarging the development of autocentric communities where you can't get anywhere on a feet or a bicycle and where this little or no mass transit, thus causing more pollution and more global warming!

Global warming and cooling is a natural earth cycle.
The "warming" is nowhere near what was projected (see chart below).
The majority of the emissions are caused by nature (volcanoes, for instance).
Remember, too, that an increase of pollutants like soot and ash can actually cause the earth to cool because less sunlight would reach the earth's surface.

I am using the smaller car and just last month or so 1/2 a tank was $10.00 now it's going over that. My husbands drives the SUV and it's like 35.00 and it guzzles like there no tomorrow.

I've always liked the HUMMER but imagine how much gas that truck guzzles.
