THE MUNSTERS TODAY was a remake of the classic 60's television series THE MUNSTERS. This little known by original fans remake from 1988 was the first show in television history ever to be completely recast and revived successfully. The show lasted three great seasons and 72 episodes (thats just 1 episode more than the original series). :D
The show succeeded in bringing new fans to the attention of the forgotten and "long since dead" MUNSTERS format from the 60's.

The Munsters made 3 pilots, 1 Carnival special, numerous guest appearances and 2, 2-hour movies and 70 total episodes.
The Munsters Today made 1 pilot and 72 episodes.
I would definitaly say that the original Munsters did a lot more work.
PS. The Munsters had been in syndication since 1966, so they were never really forgotten.

The Munsters was DEFINATELY "forgotten" (unfortunately) here in the UK for many years in the late eighties and early nineties, and MT succeeded in attaining a new fanbase quickly because of the modern twist, colour and street cred added to the format of an old show - the new fans also checked out the original series eventually, as did countless people I know. Thats the way it was here, and is so documented by ITV, the BBC and many other media reports from the early nineties. In the UK we didn't get any TV specials, TV movies or the like until 2001 with "Munsters Revenge".

Well, I'm talking about the United States, not the UK.
The Munsters was always pretty popular in the US, but unfortunitaly the Munsters Today was only popular in the UK. Strange

It is strange - just different tastes I suppose, plus a lot of die hard Munsters fans tend to be older, whereas the younger fans aged 20-25 tend to have been fans of MT before they saw the Munsters and then they checked it out, out of curiosity. I love both but wasn't impressed with the Munsters until I saw MT and then got into it after that. Thats my expierience of it.
P.S. Hope this isn't an arguement of sorts, lol. I don't want this to come across as heated. :)
