Yep, shows are beginning on the hour on all other channels, but Nick's shows begin about 5 after.

I know what you mean about the timimg on N@N. The 10p.m. episodes start pretty much on time. But if you tune in for the 1a.m. repeat, you have to sit through 10 minutes of 3's Company.

Maybe this starting increasingly after the hour is good in some way. N@N is probably pumping more commercials in during the breaks. But they're also showing less edited versions of Cheers, which might have something to do with the running over as well.

I wonder why the shows lose so much time.

Don't quote me on this, but I think it's because all the shows on N@N are unedited. They run over and don't catch back up til 5:45am when Pinky and the Brain come on. I'm pretty sure that's how it works.

Then again I could be wrong. lol

That's what it appears to be, Gracie. One of the few things N@N does right is show the entire episode (at least the "Cheers" ones, I notice "Family Ties" has scenes missing on some). So, therefore, they fall behind with all the commercials they need to air.

A common network trick that is used to keep you tuned to the same channel is to unsynch that is run the schedule 5 Minutes Later than the competitors. Ted Turner did this mess for years over at TBS.

Amen.

Let's Do Spectrum Analysis:

The general idea is to run it like so:

8:00 PM the competition runs:

ESPN basketball game

Movie on USA Network (asinine network; see later for details)

The Big 3 ratings makers (ABC, NBC, CBS)

Now at the same time at 8:05 PM

TBS Ran their Program. Do they still do this? I think they stopped.

The idea is when you are say watching an earlier TBS Program at 7:30 PM; say Cosby Show, you would miss the 1st 5 Minutes of the Other Shows. Then the viewer would say in their Cerebrum and Cerebellum area that is Brain:

Oh Darn! I missed 5 minutes of (whatever)

So they would stay with TBS for the 8:00 showing.

I am reminded of a story I read in that Jay Kelser classic "Family Forum". Kelser was the founder of Campus Crusade for Christ. Anyway:

Seems there was this boy watching a show; probably Brady Grid which is Righteous to All Kids, and Kelser was visiting his Father you see. Well after the 1st show went off the boy turned off the TV for he was through watching.

Kelser mentioned that TV People were smart enough to put little "adverts" saying "Stay tuned for the next show". Amen. And when I read this part I got Revelation Knowledge in my system:

The father says (about his son):

He has become a MAN for he learned how to turn off the television.

And Jay Kelser puts it in his book and the Man of Barnes says:

Praise the Lord!

But now when looking at Slick Nick, there is an odd synchronsity about their schedule that makes them most curious.

For it gets off after the Witching Hour (Midnight EST allowing for Zones) by about 5 minutes Give or Take a minny-mint that is Minute.

But By the 2:00 AM-3:00 AM EST showing, its off by 10 Minutes :D:eek: with the:

5:00 AM showing of Brady Bunch starting at 5:15 AM EST.

Amen.

So let's take tonight's schedule (from my TV Listings; subject to change. Networks do this crap you know. Slick Nick's the worst at it, as w/out Pavanbadal's data I shan't keep up with them) for example.

12:45 AM-2:45 AM EST REAL TIME

1:00 AM-3:00 AM EST BARNES TIME Rounded off For Easy Spectrum Comparison w/Nick at Nite

TBS is showing Fast Break

One of the best basketball movies ever made. Oh yeah. Hoosiers comes on before that but let's digress.

Assuming the movie came on at 1:00 AM and you were watching Nick at Nite.

Since Nick runs 5 Minutes late, you'd miss the 1st 5 minutes of Fast Break. YGTP By Now. Bon.

Therefore the networks brainwash you into sticking w/their channel. For they figure that the average person, when they miss part of a show (1st 5 Min, etc) on another channel, won't bother changing channels; they'll just stay with You!

This in PART is why networks do the "off by 5 minutes gambit" when it comes to scheduling. Maybe their clock is 5 minutes off or Maybe:

Its a programming trick.

Its a trick; Ted Turner invented this trick w/TBS.

Amen.

But there's more!

Remember I mentioned how it gets off Later & Later as the night goes on?

Well the Man of Barnes has a Logical Explaination.

They run More Commercials.

The ads make the time run over

And so this in its entirety makes the schedule 'off' as it were.

Amen.

As mentioned with "Pinky & the Drain" running 15 minutes at 5:45 AM, the schedule synchs that is gets back online at 6:00 AM for the Kiddies.

Now I don't know about Cheers (fell asleep watching an episode last night!) but I can assure that editing does occur in Brady Bunch. A regular viewer like myself, that has the show memorized, can tell these things.

And as for USA Network being Asinine *see earlier reference*

Watching Rainman the other night, I saw that they TOOK OUT THE WHOLE SCENE WITH RAINMAN & TOM CRUISE AT THE AIRPORT obstensibly because of WTC Tragedy. The scene concerns Raymond "no flying" and screaming; yea and talking about plane crashes w/that classic line:

Quantis NEVER Crashed.

yea and Charlie Babbett (cruise) trying to tell Raymond "All Planes Crash" so USA

In its PC Wisdom

LEFT THIS PART OUT.

It was weird; one minute Cruise is on the phone at the airport w/Lenny talking business

the next minute:

they're on the road w/Rainman.

Rainman:

There's definitely a fatal accident over there

Why wasn't that line edited; it hurts Accident Victims:D. For the same reason that SCENES that are pivotal to the movie are taken out:

Networks are:

Queer that.

Queer meaning Weird or Odd.

Thank you Rainman.

This concludes Analysis Spectrum

And if you see USA Network give them a

Raspberry.

For messing with Rainman or some such is like taking pages from the Bible or Shakesphere and ought not be trifled with.

Amen.

Time for Showy Show! Yep gotta take a Shower.

And it must be said that Brady Bunch is Righteous in All Situations, but much like Nick at Nite's getting it right and showing On The Hour, it must be said that Too Many Commercials Crack you up anyway. The networks want $. But as I read earlier, do I wanna see the Vanilla Sky ad 5 Jillion Times?

Non.

Amen.
