Diane Chambers or Rebecca Howe

Which character did you like better? Personally, I liked Rebecca better than Diane. Rebecca didn't flaunt her superior intellect like Diane did. Plus, instead of acting like Sam's boss, she was Sam's boss.

I always liked Diane better, but Rebecca (Kirstie Alley) was a great replacement when Shelley Long decided to leave the series.

Rebecca was much more of a human personality than Diane.Her wants,hopes and dreams were believable.Her relationship with Sam was a lot more two-way than Diane's,and she and Sam would occasionaly help one another.Diane was good,but in the long run she didn't seem to fit in the series as well.

Howe was as dreamy, flakey as Chambers. Howe bought a, I believe, BMW when she could not afford the car. Also she was living off an income from her father. Diane might have been intellectually out of touch, however Rebecca was economically. Which is worse, eh?

I've got to vote for Rebecca. The character seemed much more believable and grew much more than Diane.

Although ... one of my favorite all-time scenes was the episode in which Carla was working at Mr. Pibb's. At the end of the episode, she quit when they hired a Diane clone. Wonderful stuff.

I liked Rebecca much better. Diane had too much of a 'holier than thou' attitude.

Although, I think Shelley Long was the better actress of the two (on Cheers at least)

I LIKE REBECCA BETTER BECAUSE SHE WAS FUNNIER CHEERS IS ONE OF THE FEW SITCOMS IN THE HISTORY OF TELEVISION THAT GOT BETTER WITH AGE.I THOUGHT WOODY WAS FUNNIER THAN COACH.I THOUGHT THAT CLIFF GOT FUNNIER AND FUNNIER AS THE SHOW PROGRESSED.

Personally, I found both of them annoying, but if I had to choose, I'd say Rebecca. Diane was such a holier-than-thou snob!

Yes, Rebecca was more believable, but that was diane's charm. Remember "Diamond Sam" or "Chambers v. Malone" even the episodes with the artist Semenko, it was that "hot/cold" "ice/fire" that got us going. Trying to understand how Sam could spend near 10k to avoid the intital 5200 for diane's ring, that kept us intrigued. Rebecca became a part of the cast, like family. But Diane, she was always the outsider, she knew and went with it.

I liked Rebecca a lot better. I guess it is because I watched the episodes with Rebecca first, and don't even really pay attention to the Diane episodes. I liked Rebecca and Sam together better than Diane and Sam.

Rebecca is my vote. I like actress Kristie Allie, and didnt like the character Diane much, she seemed to fake, and i dont like actress Shelly Long much. I was surprised she did Frasier. She hated the character when he was on Cheers.

I also have to cast my vote for Diane. Don't get me wrong, Rebecca was a great character and I don't think Cheers would have lasted as long as it did if they stuck with the Sam/Diane formula. Rebecca definitely added a new chemistry to the cast. However, most of my favorite episodes were the ones involving the whole Sam/Diane relationship. I still don't like watching the end of "I Do, Adieu." That "have a good life" line always gets me.

Acting-wise, I think Shelley Long is better, but character-wise, I like Rebecca a lot better. Kirstie Alley is one of the most annoying actresses out there, IMHO.

Diane Chambers, no having to think about it. Kristy Alley is an okay actress, but when you've been named after your mom's favorite "Cheers" cast member and met the person who plays "you", you kind of get on their side. Yes, my real name is Diane Chambers. My mother is Michele and my father is Paul. My twin sisters are Amy and Lauren. The cat's name is Crystal. That is beside the point, but anyway...
I vote for Diane.
Lauren votes for Diane.
Amy votes for Rebecca because she likes Kristy Alley, but she likes Diane's hair!

Kirstie Alley never rubbed me the right way both as an actress and as Rebecca Howe. Even though Shelley Long was annoying too, she was a much better character in my opinion.

:cheers: Diane is my favorite. She is my favorite all time character on any show. I think that Shelley Long is a magnificent actress, as Ted Danson is a terrific actor. Those two made me want to believe that somewhere there was a Diane and Sam. Sometimes, I get so lost in the show, (The Diane eps), because they make it seem so real. I think that Diane was a great character. After Diane left, if I had to pick the best out of the AD (After Diane) era, I would pick Lilith. I found her to be not the least bit annoying. But I think that if you hate Diane, then you will most definately hate Lilith. And if you want to talk about Diane being an intellectual snob, look at Rebecca. How many times did she degrate Sam for not being rich enough, or for being a lowly bartender. So, Diane may have been a little high on her horse when it came to knowledge, but Rebecca was a snob when it came to finances.
