Longoria's Globe Snub Over Dying Aunt

Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria fears she was refused a Golden Globe nomination because she missed the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's (HFPA) lunch to visit her dying aunt. The actress, who plays Gabrielle Solis in the hit ABC drama, complains she was snubbed by the HFPA because seeing her beloved aunt for the last time was more important to her than improving her profile abroad. While Longoria's acting talents weren't recognized this year, her four of her co-stars - Marcia Cross, Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman and Nicolette Sheridan - all up on for awards at the January ceremony. She explains, "I didn't go to the Hollywood Foreign Press luncheon. I had a very sick aunt in Texas, and that was the last time I was going to see her. They were giving her last rites, and she was like a grandmother to me. I think that not going to the lunch contributes to the fact that the foreign press doesn't know me. I'm brand new, and I didn't meet them - and they were upset that I didn't go. It's always a disappointment whenever you don't get an accolade from the industry."

I said this on another thread, but I don't think it's because she missed the luncheon. Are we to believe that every nominee attends the luncheon? No, I think it's because the writers have her having an affair with a seventeen year old high school student. There's a big difference with being morally wrong, and being criminally wrong. We've seem so many cases in the news lately where older women (lots of teachers) are having affairs with students, and it lands them in the pokey.

If this character was an older man, and he was having an affair with his seventeen year old female sitter, he'd have been locked up long ago. Actually, I don't think they would have even done that storyline. The writers need to put an end to this storyline, and if she wants to fool around, have her do it with someone who is legal.

I think it's too bad she wasn't nominated. I love this show, and I think the cast is wonderful. I just find this affair with a kid sick. Too bad they didn't have the lawn guy a freshman in college and 18 or 19. I think it's just a legal thing. Her character mentions that she thought the police were after her (someone turned her in), so whatever state they are in, the legal age must be over 17.

Yeah, lets give her an award for bedding a minor. I think not.

and that's why they ARE doing this story.

My thoughts go out to Eva and her family, in regards to her aunt...

Ok, I don't think they award actors based on the storyline, I think it's more along the lines of their acting abilities.

I think it was because she didn't go to the luncheon, I've heard of this before, where actors get snubbed for not attending a globe sponsored luncheon. Also Eva herself said she's fairly new to the industry(even having been on the Young and the Restless) and that's another reason why as well.

 Yep, it's not that they were saying that Eva is a bad actress, it's just that she's new to primetime and she's not as well known as the other actresses.

No disrespect to the actresses but I've never heard of any of them before Desperate Housewives.

I had seen Teri Hatcher, though, in those Radio Shack commercials but didn't know who she was.

:eek2: Seriously?

Marcia Cross played Kimberly Shaw on Melrose Place

Teri played Lois Lane on Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman(which is where I got my screenname from an episode of L&C)

Felicity Huffman was on SportsNight

Nicollette Sheridan was on Knots Landing

Eva Longoria was on Young and the Restless for awhile.

:p Well I'm only 14 so I was young when Melrose Place first came on, not a fan of daytime soaps, I think I've heard of SportsNight (it was a sitcom...right?) but I've never seen it and don't know much about it, and I've never seen Lois & Clark...

That's probably why I've never heard of any of these ladies before Desperate Housewives. :p

 Okay, understandable :)

Yeah SportsNight was a sitcom, didn't last long though. They all had their own shows before DH, except Eva

You can find out more about them here:

Actually, besides Teri, Eva is the only one I was familiar with. Of course I am a huge Y&R fan, so that has something to do with it. She was excellent on Y&R...very evil!

And that’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.

Nominations are based on acting ability, not a storyline. Anthony Hopkins played a murderer that ate his victims in “Silence of the Lambs” – that’s disgusting and sick, right? But are you saying that he didn’t deserve his Oscar because his CHARACTER did despicable things?
Should all roles on film and television be sweet and innocent? That’s not based on reality, honey. Sorry, but true.
All things associated with Hollywood are very liberal, and I don’t think the Hollywood Foreign Press gives a rat’s ass if the character is raunchy or not.

And remember, just because they SHOW it, doesn’t mean they CONDONE it. Do movies that show murders say killing is good? Do they show that it’s OK? No, they’re just showing it – because it happens in real life. Just like “Desperate Housewives” is showing Gabrielle’s affair.

Damn, I feel like a teacher talking to a 5-year-old. BTW, how old are you?

You have your opinion, I have mine. Sorry, but you can "cuss" and carry on all you want...but it's illegal what she is doing. Apparently you think breaking the law is fine. Maybe someday when you "grow up" and have a child who is molested by an older person, then just maybe you might understand how wrong what is going on is. You may think what she is doing has nothing to do with her not receiving a nomination, but unless you are part of the nominating committee, you really are just blowing hot air. You have no clue, and nor do I. I was just speculating. You act as though you have the inside track to what went on. I doubt you do.

Your analogy to Silence of the Lambs is interesting....but off the mark. I'm saying that what she is doing is WRONG and against the law. They make "light" of this affair. Sorry, she needs to face the consequenses for doing what she is doing...

How old are you, BTW? You remind me of a teenager. You don't think past the end of your nose! I'll speak SLOWLY for you...In the real world, she would be arrested and booked and probably go to jail. It just creeps me out that he's in high school. All I said was if they wanted to have her having an affair, have it with an conscenting ADULT. That's it period. Understand??? LOL

Now off with you...don't you have some algebra or something else to keep you busy? Or since I seem to have struck such a touchy chord with you...are you by chance an old fart having an affair with a kid? You seem a little too touchy when it comes to my post.

She's not condoning the affair. None of us are (well, except me, but that's a different story). Anyways, Eva Longoria herself isn't being illegal - she and Jesse Metcalfe are 4 years apart. It's just her character. The nominating people don't care what the CHARACTER does. Just how the actor does it.

Oh, and I understand what you are saying (I just have a different opinion). I just took offense to the post. I'm not sure why she think her opinion is right and mine is wrong. I found her post offensive and I am curious why she would attack me like that. My post seemed to really set her off for some reason.

There's not one thing funny about an adult having sex with a high school student. Period. That's my opinion. Good actress, bad actress, whatever.....I like this place, but this is the first time someone has been so incredibly rude to me. You can make a point without starting out like her post did....

Who knows, maybe Opal is really Mary Kay Letourneau, which might better explain her post! :)

I don't think it's supposed to be funny. I think it's supposed to intriuge people... or like... I don't know how to explain it. But it's never really tried to be funny.

And really, how old is Gabrielle supposed to be? Late 20's? Early 30's? I don't know, I just don't see a big problem with it. Probably cos I'm in love with half of my teachers  (The guy in my avatar is my teacher, hah...)

LOL...I was the same way as you are (when I was in high school). I remember having a crush on my drivers ed teacher, however, I'll bet donuts to dollars your mom and dad would have a FIT if one of your teachers had an affair with you. Many a lawsuits and criminal charges have been filed recently concerning this same thing. The problem is her age. And it's the law. That's all I'm saying.... :)

I don't see this show allowing illegal activities to go unpunished. I think the murderers will be prosecuted (it may take a while), so it's possible this chick will face the music. Who knows.

All along I've said just have the kid be eighteen. Yes, he still might be in high school, but at least he's legal!

He's 17 right now, so it should be very soon when he turns 18.

Honestly though, Jesse Metcalfe is (!)26(!) playing a character nine years younger than him...it's kinda sad...he should have just stayed on Passions...

Hard to believe he's that old! He sure doesn't look it (he looks 20-21 to me). He sure is a good looking guy though. My daughter is a big Passions fan. She probably knows who he is, but she doesn't watch DH.

:barf: Passions sucks, sorry, he's better off on DH, now he's becoming a household name :)

Why is it sad? All the actors on Beverly Hills 90210 all played characters like 10 years younger than they were.

Oh, and I supposed calling me Mary Kay Letourneau is OK?
Talk about being a hypocrite! Again, it's a TV show. Just because I’m a fan of Gabrielle (a FICTIONAL character) doesn’t mean I’m a child molester! Seriously, how old are you? I can separate fantasy from reality, but apparently you can't..

And the passive-aggressive stuff is just lame.

Have fun watching "The Brady Bunch".
